There is one thing about Barefoot that makes it at least a guilty pleasure. Once you ignore how improbable Daisy is — there is something oddly captivating about Wood's performance.

It’s never fully clear whether Daisy is a severely damaged woman with the mental development and social skills of a 10-year-old, or just a wide-eyed, unconventional waif in need of some tender loving care. Barefoot vacillates between the two almost at random, depending upon the needs of its hackneyed screenplay at any given moment.

I completly agree with DoYourJob's review below. I don't understand why they scored it so low. I always look on metacritic before I watch a movie and this time I was really suprised that it was that low. It made me curious: is this movie really that bad? So while watching it I was expecting bad acting or awful script but it wasn't any different then other hollywod's comedies/romantic movies. So why that low?! I find Barefoot intresting movie, sure there was a lot of moments where I knew what was going to happen, but it doesn't seem artificial at all. Daisy was an amaizing character although a bit too sugarcoated. Overall I do recommend you to see this movie just beacause of this horrible critic's reviews.

I like the plot of having an insane asylum patient be his fake girlfriend, that's a pretty unique story right off the bat, but TV Movie level acting & scenes, not to mention random things are thrown in like him owing a debt & being a jailbird & his parents bailing him out acting like it's normal to get arrested, very strange & unrealistic scenes.

It’s a spectacularly wrong-headed, chemistry-free romance, and too dumb to know how sexist it is.

Over the decades, there’s been no shortage of boneheaded premises for romantic comedies, but the painfully ill-conceived Barefoot takes boneheadedness to regrettable places.

The movie acts like screwball comedy, but there are no laughs as Daisy and Jay’s connection lurches toward implausible romance.

Daisy was written without irony, wit or any grounding in reality. She's a barefooted flower child in a flatfooted fiasco.

Barefoot shows a real "barefooted" wish. But it doesn't show true love and it's very simple to understand and doesn't have a real message, so Barefoot is, of course, a child's game that many people may call: "Bare-fool"
