Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom

Momoa is the best reason to see the movie. He's as alpha-cool, even jerk-ish, as a "maverick" action star can be while also making you believe his character is fundamentally decent and knows when he's gone too far and sincerely feels bad about it. And he's got range.

It’s perhaps appropriate that the latest Aquaman movie is about a lost kingdom. In many ways, this mini-franchise is just that, a Jason Momoa kingdom that could just quietly sink below the cinematic waves.

A depressingly uninspired superhero adventure sequel that leans heavily on plot points and battle sequences we’ve seen in at least a dozen other films in the genre — and almost always done better.

The problem is that the film wants to be too many things. It wants to be an action/adventure that takes its characters to exciting locales, a heart-warming story of family, an incisive commentary on global warming, and a cautionary tale of how vengeance can consume a person.

The lazily generic plot devices (yet again, an ancient evil artefact offers unlimited powers to its holder); performances so thuddingly clunky that much of the dialogue sinks like a boulder in the sea; the lack of any humour whatsoever: these are all minor irritations compared with the picture’s glib trivialisation of the climate crisis.

Exactly the kind of insipid malarky superhero movies spent the last few decades trying to prove that they’re not.

The Aquaman franchise is just flatlining, floating through the dreary depths like the kind of discarded plastic bag which is going to choke the last remaining vaquita porpoise.

It's bad because Amber Heard is in it but it's still a good movie because it had everything you wanted like it's a good movie it's just that we're all just upset over Amber Heard we didn't want her in the movie but she was in the movie but we focus on more on Aquaman and his lifeBeing a dad and being a king and dealing with a lot of strugglesLike this movie is really good

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom returns Jason Momoa as the iconic superhero, and while the film has its flaws, it proves to be an engaging follow-up. Initially, I had concerns about the humor in the film, fearing that the character would be reduced to a joke, much like the direction taken with Thor in recent MCU films. However, Aquaman’s character is grounded with moments of seriousness, especially when he proposes the idea of revealing Atlantis to the world—a notion that the other kingdoms vehemently oppose. This sequence, though simple, reassured me that the movie would avoid turning Aquaman into a complete caricature. The chemistry between Arthur Curry and his brother Orm was a pleasant surprise, adding depth to the film’s dynamic.James Wan’s direction shines with dynamic camera work and subtle references to classic films like Planet of the Vampires, which enrich the visual experience. The villain’s stop-motion design was a standout, though the character’s development felt secondary to the larger story. Mera also has a more substantial role than expected, giving a strong performance despite the ongoing controversy surrounding Amber Heard. However, the movie struggles with humor, particularly in the early scenes, where juvenile jokes (like a baby urinating on Aquaman) hurt the pacing. The film also leans heavily on MCU-style humor, which might not sit well with all audiences. The plot is fairly predictable, and the off-screen death of Willem Dafoe’s character was a major disappointment. Another jarring moment occurred when Mera suddenly kisses a character, which felt forced and out of place. The music, while fitting, relied too much on cliched **** the end, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is an entertaining sequel with solid performances, impressive visuals, and some missed opportunities. While it may not break new ground, it’s a fun ride that leaves you eager to revisit the first film and look forward to future adventures with Aquaman.

I had low expectations since I heard some bad reviews, but I really think it was ok. Of course not much new in it and quite predictable plot mostly, but still an ok watch as a popcorn movie.

i like all the actors in this movie; they have all done lots of good stuff in the past - some have done excellent stuff. But this movie is still dreadful. the plot is generic; CGI big baddie has been awakened by other baddie, Aquaman has to team up with his brother to stop him. The movie looks like a cartoon and the people are so obviously acting in front of green screens that it just looks absurd. in fact it looks like they used AI to create the actors' images and voices, because they all look like robots. Jason Momoa really does his best and so does Patrick Wilson - no one else gets to attempt to act - but it's just not enough.

"Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom" (Cmas 2023, 2hr, D/James Wan) This should've been an outstanding sequel to 2018's Aquaman but instead you get something akin to a video game adaptation. This director has so much more potential but the gazillions in budget were just squandered on VFX as if this was a half-hearted Netflix production. But worse is that the writing is just horrid, and to find that Wan and Momoa both have writing credits for this! I mean baby peeing in daddy's face is an ancient romcom trope, who the @$#% permitted this into the screenplay of a big budget action movie?! And there are too many other such travesties to bother with here, very very disappointing.
