Dave will eagerly steal 10 or 15 minutes from you here and there, and as a palate cleanser between longer games, it excels. But the climb back to the late-game point at which you bought the farm? It's more bummer than woah.

Not as woah-ful as the screenshots make it look. [March 2015, p79]
Woah Dave! is the kind of game that leaves me bummed out not because it’s bad, but because I want to like it. I see what it’s trying to do and I want to like it more than I do. I’m just not having fun playing it.

Whoa Dave! is an arcade game. As you keep playing it, you'll discover new little things all the time. It is perfect for small burst, or for when you really want to beat your high score. The graphics are cute and its simplicity keeps your focused on the game. I just find it a little too tough and the achievements could be a little more creative, and they could add a little more elements, stages and gigs. Certainly one of the best 3DS games. It is so cheap that you certainly wont regret getting it.

Played on a single screen you must hop from platform to platform collecting eggs whilst avoiding enemies (there are a few added complications which I won't go into now) attempting to score as many points as possible before you die. Its a simple concept, something which is not always a bad thing, but I just couldn't get on with Woah Dave! at all despite trying it on a number of separate occasions. In general I am a big fan of indie games but the awkward controls and lack of options, combined with gameplay that I simply didn't find all that much fun meant this is not one I'll be playing again at any point.

Woah Dave! Is a stellar example of how simple systems can combine to create incredibly tense and satisfying gameplay. While the package doesn't contain oodles of content, high score hounds are likely to find hours of fun exploring this utterly elegant experience.

It's gaming stripped down to the simplest of mechanics. I'm talking almost Atari game simple. While that would be the death of most games "Woah Dave!" manages to succeed thanks to it. It's an addicting high score game with a healthy dose of old-school difficulty. The premise is simple; you throw skulls and eggs at enemies in order to collect their loose change in order to boost your score. The thing is your weapons can kill you. The eggs hatch into more enemies and the skulls explode. Both after only a few seconds. It's up to you to juggle all the on-screen chaos while keeping an eye on whether or not you need to drop/throw what you're holding before it kills you. It can be a tad frustrating at first, but it doesn't take long to get a hold of things. Once you do it's not hard to find yourself gripping your Vita tight trying to get that score as high as it will go. The content here is quite slim, but it proves solid enough to make it worth a look for those who enjoy arcade style experiences.

Whilst it doesn't look like very much, there is something very charming and ultimately quite addictive here. It won't last you forever, and it's incredibly frustrating but if it catches you, you won't be able to stop, at least for a little while.

Your going to hate this game at first. It takes a little time to get used to non standard game conventions like auto picking up everything and nothing is explained. Deaths will seemingly come out of nowhere but there is actually reasoning for things that are happening that you will learn after time. Almost gave the game up early but now I am addicted. For free everyone should give it 20 minutes on it. Nothing else here but the base score chasing game but can't beat the price.

I spent 1 hour trying to understand what is funny in this game and my conclusion was that the game is just a joke. Horrible graphics, no history, bad sound, very old gameplay style, bad control... Even it was hard to understand which "squares" were enemies or friends. Actually, I didn't find anything good in this game. One of the worst game I ever played. I don't understand the critic reviews. It s a very bad retro game.
