VORON: Raven's Story

VORON: Raven's Story is dazzlingly beautiful and makes flying around a delight. It's only fault is that it doesn't dive enough into either its world or its puzzles.

VORON: Raven's Story is a raw game, but an excellent foundation for more mature future projects. Playing the role of a raven is a unique experience, although it is not very easy to get used to the flying technique. The story is rather short but linear, while the atmosphere dedicated to Norse myths helps to make the experience more immersive. Unfortunately, there are many flaws that affect the game, from the technical side to some limitations closely related to gameplay. Considering its cost, however, we recommend giving it a chance.

Voron: Raven’s Story is certainly a flawed game, though to be fair it is an indie game largely made by one person and costs a mere $10, so one can only expect so much. The one thing the game truly has going for it, and what will determine whether you’ll enjoy it or not, are the unique flight mechanics. While I personally enjoyed it, I can definitely see it being a hard sell for most. I found the game was at its best during the challenges where I had to dodge obstacles and push my speed to the limit, but things fell off whenever I was simply traversing a large open area and gliding for long stretches. Still, if you’ve enjoyed the freedom of flying around in games and want a more relaxing and charming game about flight, Voron is certainly worth taking a look at.

Beautiful world. Nice story. You can enjoy flying around. Until you reach the second world. Here your flight time is extremely limited and you must fly around only on designated paths catching stupid orbs to fill up your stamina meter. The problem is that you have to almost touch the orbs to get them. Their radius should have been like 10 times bigger so that you can focus on enjoying the flying and the world around. Instead you have to be hyper focused on flying exactly on the same path and concentrating only on those stupid orbs. Completely destroys the game experience for me because it felt like an open world where I could fly around and it is no longer that. And there's no hope it will get better. I think it might remain this way for a long time. Dropped.
