Clearly a budget title, even looking past some of the obvious flaws like the laughably bad voice acting or the older console generation looking characters, the core game itself - fighting - leaves a lot to be desired. Enemies largely are punching bags with annoyingly large HP pools, but the game is unforgiving with how long there is between being able to save. Ultra Age had some clear potential but it really needed its quality spread across all aspects, the bad parts drag the rest of it down making it largely passable.
Ultra Age gets the combat mostly right. While it isn't perfect, the combat system feels fluid enough that you can make a spectacle of dashing around mobs and tagging them with dazzling combos. Everything else about it feels half-baked, from the pacing to the story to the sound and pick-up system. Those who crave action may overlook these things because the combat is good enough, but those who are looking for something with better quality would be better served looking elsewhere first.
Ultra Age is a middle of the pack action thing that has the basic mechanics of the genre down, but doesn’t do anything to stand out, and it has some real balancing issues. but struggles to balance difficulty progression as well as pushing boundaries in the genre. Unfortunately for the developers, this is one genre in which we are spoiled for choice, both in terms of finding challenging games to enjoy, and complex, thought-provoking experiences.

This game is fire..From the outset the combat feels familiar and satisfying, but is so tight and well implemented that it actually rises above similar titles like Nier and DMC..Ultra age requires more skill and precise timing and is crafted perfectly.. From the outset you are shown the basics , leading to the sexy femme fatal antagonist, that got my attention peaked for this game..There is a satisfying leveling system and you grind you way along leveling up similar to an ARPG..Story is syfy cool and all worth it's price..I would love to see what this studio could do with a big budget as this game is better than most generic, political triple A games released today in the US.

If this were a AAA game i would give it a 6/10. But its not.Sure graphics are outdated and the voice acting **** who **** combat is *chef's kiss* 10/10 for the combat alone. Thats all i need from. A hack and slash.

The look and tone is hilarious and non-sensical, but the gameplay is tight. So if you’re looking for something similar to a Devil May Cry, but thought Onechanbara was terrible, Ultra Age might be what you’re looking for. It plays better than something like Deadly Premonition, but doesn’t have quite the intentional derp of Metal Wolf Chaos. I’d say it sits nicely in the realm of something like God Hand. And if this is just a poorly presented game, it fooled me, and is still tons of fun to play.

Such a fresh-feeling combat system always has you thinking two steps ahead, especially in scenarios when multiple styles of foe are clashing. They’ll fight each other in these instances, but if you’re running low on, say, Katana blades, a Lightning Rod might be your best option. Souls-ish elements do rear their head via alternate routes that make up for harsh checkpointing, encouraging you to get back in the fight (regardless of how tough that encounter is). Discard initial assumptions; Ultra Age is a surprisingly fun slice-fest.[Issue#7, p.78]

Ultra Age bets it all on its own style of conventional combat and mostly succeeds as a result.

This is a solid effort for an indie studio, and if you’re aware of its shortcomings, this can be a very interesting option for those looking for a hack & slash.

Ultra Age is anything but ‘Ultra”, and that’s alright. While its not the best example of a modern-day Devil May Cry it is however an excellent example of Devil May Cry from the PS2 era. Whether on accident or on purpose the game felt just cheesy enough that it could be an homage to DMC’s heyday or maybe it is just a cheesy story about a kid looking to find the secret to immortality. Whatever side of the line you land on, the constant will be that Ultra Age is a lot of fun to play. While its systems might not be deep; the enjoyment of juggling combos/blades and enemies is worth the 7 hour length.

If we were to evaluate exclusively the Ultra Age combat system we would not hesitate to say that it is a small pearl. Unfortunately, however, we find ourselves having to consider the entire package and it is therefore impossible not to take into consideration the serious problems of this production, which range from level design to the graphics sector, passing through some very questionable gameplay choices. The result is a poor offer in terms of content even for a product sold for 29.99 euros. In short, the purchase of Ultra Age should only be evaluated by the most hardcore fans of the genre who do not want to miss the opportunity to try the particular combat system on PlayStation 4 or Nintendo Switch (platform on which there is also a free demo).

It's a game where combat is the key. There are some downsides, but the combat alone is worth it. The voice actor was the most disappointing, but after changing it to Japanese, it was fine. I was surprised that there were no bugs at all while playing.

Combat gameplay is on point (search YT for weapon skills showcase to see for yourself). I think the combat in this is underrated because at first it's a bit hard to grasp, but once you get down with the various weapon mechanics it really is fun as hell. If they released a horde mode DLC it would be sick. I'd give the combat a 9 or even bordering on a 10 as it really is well designed, especially for a small indie title. Music is decent but gets repetitive. Voice acting is best skipped. Story is average too - I tuned out as I ended up skipping many cut scenes to get to the combat, mainly because the dialogue and acting wasn't doing it for me in the slightest. Bosses are decent, a couple are great, and at least two are quite hard. The final boss is epic and so well designed, but also very difficult. It's a nail biting fight that requires you to have really learned all the combat mechanics well, and even then it's tough. This game is worth it for that boss fight alone though, if you're into tough well designed boss fights. Exploration is at a minimum, but you do need to explore to find some upgrade resources. Enemies are decent, some are really great in their design. Combat wise even the hardest enemies have perfect counters you can do if you learn the mechanics, meaning you can start weapon switching and countering/attacking to feel like a bad-ass. Design is on point here. However, while there is a diverse group of enemies, they do become quite repetitive after a while. This is a small indie team's first console release, and amazingly I experienced zero bugs. One of the few games in recent years that I can say that about. It's also a small price point too, which is reflective of the 8-10 hour campaign length. Overall I think this is a stellar first release for a studio. After playing through and learning how to play properly, I played it through a second time with that knowledge and the second time was a blast. Really enjoyed it knowing how to use the mechanics from the very beginning. I recommend this game, and have high hopes on future games from this studio, especially if they double-down on their weapon switching combat focus.

The game started off pritty average…dull voice acting, dull enemy’s but the gameplay kept me playing which is a mix of devil may cry and demon souls but both elements done poorly and then about 4 hrs in a came across a game breaking bug where a door that was supposed to open never did and in all honesty I was glad for an excuse to put it down. The game had some nice ideas but is delivered badly
