So love this game. Maybe it is not legendary as a game (mostly just because of budget) but the story is 11/10

This game is impeccable. Graphics, music, gameplay, story, characters. Even if you are not a big fan of jrpg genre or turn-based combat, I still recommend to get it - if some game can make you a fan, it will be this one!

The game starts off great, but the fun is beaten down by little to no new abilities and strategies as the game progresses with very repetitive battles and slow pacing. If you do play, make a ton of saves because you get locked into certain areas and bosses constantly and if you’re not prepared, you’ll need an earlier save

Great characters, great story, beautiful art design, relaxed atmosphere. For me, this was the first game in the series and a great introduction.

Ludicrously bland and weak game. Stupid, fillerish and boring infantile plot. Mid graphics, terrible repetitive locations, fetch quests, unvoiced dialogues in the main story. The only saving grace is combat but for majority of the game you get only two most boring characters and only occasionally one or two actually interesting extra party members but they very quickly leave the party for the majority of the game. F tier, many indies are much better.

Great game! Story is good and combat is fun. Graphics are fine. Some of the acting is a bit cringe, but that is the only down side.

I try so hard to like these games. Love the combat system. But I just can't get past how boring the story is played out. The characters don't move around and act, not dynamic movement other than the intro animation scene, maybe an end game scene? After 12 hours I didn't see another, it's the characters standing and talking with word balloons sometimes voiced sometimes not. If the story wasn't a major part to these games I might feel differently about them.

Trails in the Sky the 1st sets a new benchmark for how a remake can solve the pacing issues often found in modern JRPGs. It is a brilliant masterpiece that breathes new life into the classic narrative with stunning modern visuals. While the updated graphics and refined gameplay are incredible, I have to be honest: Falcom’s choice to end it on such a cliffhanger is just as irresponsible now as it was years ago!

One of the best remakes i played and i cannot for the 2nd chapter. Falcom deserves it for what they are doing for such a long time.

And the curtain falls on this first chapter of one of the most beautiful JRPG sagas! Truly hats off to Falcom... Characters, story, music, battles...everything is top-notch. And now, even though I already know the story, all I can do is wait for Second Chapter.

First of all, I have to say that the game’s environment is stunning. While it is not a triple-A title with ultra-realistic graphics, the anime-inspired art style fits the game’s atmosphere extremely well. For anyone who has watched anime before, playing this game feels like experiencing a 26-episode anime series. The game is divided into five chapters, and it took me around 68 hours to complete, including most of the side quests. What really makes the story engaging is the strong character development, especially the interactions between Estelle and Joshua. The main characters constantly made me want to learn more about them. However, I do wish the game were slightly shorter, as the story feels slow during the first three chapters, particularly due to the lack of major plot twists early on. Another major highlight is the battle system. The turn-based combat, combined with the Orbal magic system, is excellent and reminds me of the materia system from Final Fantasy VII. I especially enjoyed how most magic spells and attacks were useful, with buffs and debuffs playing an important role in battles. The story also introduces different party members throughout the game, which keeps the gameplay fresh since each character has a unique playstyle. That said, the game only allows players to freely choose their preferred party combination in the final dungeon, which feels somewhat limiting. The voice acting is another strong point, particularly for Estelle and Joshua. Although I usually prefer Japanese voice acting for anime-styled games, the English voices were equally impressive. One thing to note is that not all scenes are fully voiced. In less important cutscenes, the main characters are silent while NPCs are voiced. I assume the developers wanted players to focus on new characters while allowing them to imagine the voices of the main cast. This did not bother me much, and in fact, it allowed me to read the dialogue more quickly. The music is also memorable and reminds me of classic JRPGs. The soundtrack has a strong narrative feel, though it lacks variety at times—possibly due to budget limitations. That said, the game proves that a full orchestral soundtrack is not always necessary to create an emotional experience. Overall, I would rate this game an 8.6/10, and I am very much looking forward to playing the second chapter.

As a fan of Trails Of Cold Steel, I am excited to continue my journey through this. The story so far I can tell I'm going to like. Right from the start, we are introduced to our two main characters and they have good chemistry together. The enemies seem to be balanced in fights too. The biggest issues I see with this is the action/turn based combo system seems to be annoying to switch back and forth. I'd preferred the original turn-based combat. Also, when visiting towns, they do not label every building on the map which gets tedious to figure out where to go. Overall, this is a great JRPG that I'm excited to finish and see if I will bump my score up to a 9. Edit: There is fast travel here but only unlocked later in the prologue. Also, some quests lock out fast travel which is dumb. The twist ending is so good that I will bump this up to a 9. Such a devastating twist and really gets me excited for the next game.

I love RPG and JPRG, played tons of them from the famous one (FF, Star Ocean, Rogue Galaxy, Clair Obscur, Secret of Mana, Zelda, etc, you name it). I never heard about trail in the sky but saw the very high review on meta critic and bought it. I painfully did the prologue, chapter 1 and beginning of chapter 2, probably 4 or 5 hours of gameplay completing main and side quests, and never once felt anything except boredom. I do not recommend that game. The graphics are pretty average for a game in 2025, the story is also very slow and average, the fighting system is not any better, and the music is nothing special. I highly recommend to not waste your time on that one.

The first remake of the Kiseki series, where you can start playing the very first game that launched this great saga. It features enhanced 3D graphics, English and Japanese voice acting, and text that includes Spanish. This title is ideal for those who have never played any of the games in the series and want to jump into one of the JRPGs with the most extensive narrative to date.

Trails in the Sky is a masterclass in wasted potential. Beneath its charming art and bloated dialogue lies a game that actively discourages strategic thinking. Why bother optimizing your party, mastering the Quartz system, or planning your builds when you can just drop the difficulty mid-battle and brute-force your way through? There’s zero reward for playing smart. No bonus loot, no achievement incentives, not even a nod from the game that you did something clever. It’s a sandbox for people who want to mash buttons and read endless exposition, not for those who crave tactical depth or meaningful **** combat system pretends to be deep, but it’s all smoke and mirrors. Once you realize the difficulty slider is a free pass, the illusion crumbles. You’re not strategizing—you’re babysitting a story that refuses to respect your time or **** you value challenge, consequence, or any form of player agency, skip this. Your 60 bucks are better spent elsewhere.

This is m-m-m-m-m-m-m-m-m-METACRITICAL! One of the best JRPGs I have played, and not just for remakes. It's definitely slow paced, but you get to enjoy and experience everything in the lives of truly likable characters.

I’ve heard about the trails in the sky games over the past 10-15 years, but never got around to them. Now I absolutely see what the fuss is about. This is one of the best JRPGs I have ever played. The characters are incredibly well-written. In fact, Estelle and Joshua are right up there with Cloud and Aerith/tifa as my favorite duos of all time. This is a near-perfect JRPG that everyone needs to experience.

Enjoyed the game. Played the original for the first time about 1.5 years ago. Feels like the same story, but told with improved everything. Gameplay is great, but it's basically the same gameplay as in Daybreak games. Main issue is graphics actually, models and animations specifically. They just look stiff and all male models are way to thin(actually same with female models but males are just much worse).

“Some games tell stories. Some build worlds. Trails in the Sky does both—with soul.” Story : More Than a Bracer Journey At first glance, it’s a tale of two young Bracers—Estelle and Joshua—traveling across the Liberl Kingdom. But beneath the surface lies a deeply personal story about identity, loss, and the quiet strength of love. Every chapter peels back layers of political intrigue, hidden pasts, and emotional truths. - Estelle’s growth from cheerful novice to resilient heroine is beautifully paced. - Joshua’s arc is haunting, tragic, and unforgettable. - Even side characters and NPCs feel alive, with evolving dialogue and personal stories. Music : Echoes of Hope and Sorrow The soundtrack by Falcom Sound Team jdk is nothing short of masterful. From the stirring “Silver Will” to the soul-healing “The Whereabouts of Light”, each track enhances the emotional weight of the journey. - Music isn’t just background—it’s narrative. - Key scenes are elevated into unforgettable moments through melody. Worldbuilding : Liberl Feels Lived-In Liberl isn’t just a setting—it’s a breathing world. Each region has its own culture, politics, and people. The in-game books (Carnelia, Herz’s Adventure, Liberal News) add layers of lore that reward the curious. - Towns evolve with the story. - Side quests often tie into the main plot or reveal hidden truths.- Even a random NPC might surprise you with a poignant line. Gameplay : Classic, Thoughtful, and Deep The turn-based combat system is strategic and satisfying. Orbment customization allows for creative builds, and positioning matters in every fight. - Combat rewards planning, not just grinding. - Boss fights are challenging but fair. - Side quests offer meaningful rewards and world insight. Final Thoughts Trails in the Sky isn’t just a game. It’s a memory. It’s the kind of story that lingers in your heart long after the credits roll. For those who value character-driven narratives, rich worldbuilding, and emotional resonance, this is a journey worth taking

I tried to like this but it was impossible. It may be my character which hindred me to enjoy this more than i **** issue is, that i cant just silently accept a boring or weak plot and keep enjoying it. This may be a slight spoiler for you guys if you did not play it, but the villains keep escaping, like 6 times so far till the end of chapter 3 and there are i think more than 5. They keep escaping after getting beaten by "us", or they take someone hostage and the worst part is, that the collective iq points of our heroes andeveryone else in the story does not go beyond 30 points. So story is utter garbage, and this game is a jrpg, so its strongest point should be the story. You also need to do nonstop sidequests to get your rank up, which are just some fetch quests, i started skipping the cutscenes of those after finishing 40 of them. I quit after 25hours. I do not get the hype or the praise this game gets. If you dislike nonstop fetchquests and reoccuring villains who come by like every 2 hours to tske a dump into your face and escape right after that, then dont buy.

Attention JRPG fans. This is a must play for any fan Of Japanese role playing games. This isn't my first game in the trails series. That honor is reserved for Trails of Cold Steel, which is also a great JRPG. But for the longest time, people asked where should you start in the series. Guy, THIS IS THE ONE! The world, the characters, the graphics, the VOICE ACTING OMG! Give props to the English voice actors, please. Estelle and Joshua's VAs are top tier VA!!!! Here are my main reasons on why you need to play it: 1) The characters. Estelle and Joshua alone carry this game 100%. Extremely well written characters full of charm. But that's not all. The supportive characters like Schera, Olivier, Zin, Tita etc... are awesome in their own right and compliment the story. 2) The graphics. Please compare this to a recent game like Trails of Azure or Trails of Cold Steel. That's the quality you are getting. The models, the 3d world, the characters facial expressions. Oh my God. They're hilarious. They bring the game to life and make the game feel truly alive. 3) The music. Go listen to a Trails in the Sky PSP OST NOW! If you like that, imagine a remastered and remixed soundtrack truly modernized in 2025. It is a damn masterpiece! 4) The gameplay. Going from the PSP to a fully rendered 3D world... Makes this game feel like a real story, a real world, a real experience. You go from an action RPG to a fully turn based RPG back and forth. YOU can dictate which method to play (except the big bosses are mostly turn based) but I love that there is a choice in gameplay. Final thoughts: Nihon Falcom threw this game with love, affection and care and put it out there for not only fans of Trails to enjoy but fans of JRPG to enjoy... Hell, fans **** storytelling game to enjoy!! Please give it a chance. I promise you, you will love it and will be attached to the characters and the world. 10/10 for me.

Excellent remake of a 20 year old game that is now easier to access because its on Switch 2/PS5&PC, I have been playing this series since Cold Steel 3 on Switch and its amazing how not only the graphics have gotten better but the storytelling and gameplay has improved in every way possible, this game is similar to Ys Nordics in the fact that it is open world, really looking forward to Trails in the Sky 2nd chapter remake, my only complaint is how difficult it was to get a physical copy, in Europe at launch.

Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter,a remake of the game which was released 21 years ago. The remake of our beloved Trails series' first game, the game I fell in love with the Trails.Despite GungHo's idiotic mistakes, poor management and unnecessary censorship, this game is phenomenal. Falcom literally showed everyone how a ''JRPG-Remake'' should be done.Unfortunately it's story-telling is not crazy, funny or dramatic as the original one owing to the censors they put on the game,it's still **** thanks to Falcom's new type of gameplay,it still feels fresh and engaging.I completed all 73 quests in the game, opened all of the chests and I can say that the game is almost as good as the original **** of course better in gameplay-wise, but I'm not praising this since it's how a remake should deliver anyway. The new ''cinematic-kind'' animations made the game better. Some scenes were astonishingly well done. The end is still striking so hard that your heart **** I started the game and played till chapter 2,I was considering giving 4/5 because of the censorship and stuff but the cinematic scenes and the gameplay changed my **** game made me realize how much I missed the cities of Liberl and Liberl itself. Now,I'm so excited for the remake of the best JRPG of all time,Trails in the Sky Second Chapter.

I recently finished this remake after not being able to easily put the game down for nearly 50 hours as a first time player. Excellent. Thanks falcom, that ending broke me and i have to wait 2-3 years for SC remake. This is a fantastic RPG and exceptional remake that honors the original and modernizes things while keeping the core. I came to love the characters and 11/10 dialogue of this game so well, coupled with an engaging battle system, good music and awesome vibes, and a solid world to traverse. The level or character and dialogue of falcom is ridiculous its been some time since i was so impressed by this in a game. I can confidently say estelle is one of my favorites, and each character feels so fun and purposeful, even npcs changing dialogue and reappearing constantly. I do think the game is a slow burn with some need for more battle themes and relatively standard setting - a bit overdone on that. The fact that this is all a prologue is odd for my tastes but beyond minor and personal points I have thoughly been convinced in what this series has to offer. This game has absolute standout moments all around. 8.5/10

This remake is a disaster dressed up as nostalgia. The devs clearly thought “let’s make it longer and prettier,” but what we got is a marathon of boredom. The story crawls forward while characters yap endlessly about nothing, and the side quests? Busywork at its absolute worst. You’ll spend more time checking boxes than actually enjoying the journey. The graphics don’t impress either. One moment you think, “Okay, that looks nice,” and the next you’re staring at textures that could’ve been ripped straight from the original release. And don’t even get me started on how some of the updated character models look suspiciously like Genshin Impact knock-offs — except without the budget, polish, or style. It feels less like a faithful remake and more like a clumsy attempt to cash in on trends. Combat hasn’t aged well at all, and the so-called tweaks only make the flaws stand out even more. Toss in random difficulty spikes, and it stops being a challenge and just becomes a punishment. If this was meant to honor the original, it failed spectacularly. Instead of rekindling love for the series, it risks turning people away entirely. It’s clumsy, it’s padded, and it reeks of a quick cash grab.
