The Walking Dead: A New Frontier – Episode 5 is a gripping, emotional ending to this chapter in the series, but it's also one that doesn't quite hit the mark as well as the prior seasons of this successful franchise have. When it comes to the grand finale, players simply deserved a bigger, more satisfying resolution to Javier's story and the outcome facing him and his loved ones. And, while I did enjoy Clem's ending – again, I'll keep it vague – Clem's presence alone isn't enough to carry this piece of The Walking Dead: A New Frontier to the heights that prior episodes in this saga could reach.

Third season ended just like it began: with no spark or an underlying idea. Stuff just happened. Here are the events, here are your decisions; as for conclusions – draw your own, because script writers have already moved on to Minecraft Story Mode – Season 2. [Issue#221, p.84]

As with all of The Walking Dead games, there are a few different endings for players to experience, although achieving them isn’t as straight-forward as it was in prior iterations.

Damn. I played season 2 for first time and it was incredible I thought telltale really knew what they were doing.... IM VERY disapointed with season 3. It was horrible. I'm not making this up. Look at the reviews... The writing, the characters and the story were all very boring. The most interesting parts could have been sumarized in 1 episode. It dragged on for too long with just random stuff happening that had no meaningful impact. Trust me, if you liked season 1 and 2, do not waste your time. You won't be missing out on any clementine story either. Wait for season 4 and give that a shot.

By far the worst of the entire Telltale TWD series. Shallow characters, and boring dialog. It first it was pretty interesting but it seemed obvious to me they (the writer(s)) tried to stretch already weak story to far. I uninstalled when I hit the 5th chapter out of shear boredom..

Well, what can I say - I cried at the ending of season 1, season 2 was kinda disappointing but still awesome, Walking Dead:Michonne was average and this one... I don't really know how to feel about it. The Walking Dead: A New Frontier has the best graphics of the whole series, but that doesn't matter to be honest. First season looked less impresive, but the story was way much better. I really enjoyed playing as Lee, in the next season I was happy to control Clementine, but now... Javi was kinda "empty". I had no bond with him at all. I did not care about any character to be honest, only Clementine was important to me. The story of this game (which should be the strongest point) was not actually adictive. To be honest it was boring at some points. I thought that ending would be powerful... Unfortunately it felt me down. It wasn't terrible, it wasn't just as good as endings from previous games. To sum up - Game wasn't as good as TWD season 1, wasn't as good as TWD season 2, was better than TWD Michonne (it wasn't hard to be better than it) . It had some charm in it, but I couldn't say that I enjoyed every minute that I've spent with this game.

The Walking Dead: A New Frontier comes to a great conclusion with Episode 5 "From the Gallows". Telltale delivers on the family drama, and dials the action up for this season finale that will have you begging for Season 4.

The Walking Dead: A New Frontier has been an emotional and amazing ride through some of the most beautiful storytelling I've ever experienced in my many years of gaming. Episode four and five are some of the best episodes I've played from any Telltale game thus far, and closes off my favorite game of their creation in the best ways possible. The ending was great, heartfelt and made my decisions feel impacting. The final episode has only been released for four days and I already can't wait for the next season/downloadable content from Telltale. Thank you, Telltale Games, for your beautiful story.

Compared to the earlier entries, The Walking Dead: A New Frontier wasn't the best season. There were more than enough characters who were unsympathetic, and some of the recycled plot devices didn't do anything to wipe away that sense of déjà vu. The final episode, From the Gallows, brought a satisfying emotional resolution to earlier actions and events, and the end report listing the overall relationship outcomes between Javi and all of the major characters made you feel like there was actually some agency in a Telltale title, even if that doesn't really occur. Though uneven, this turned out to be a good season if you were willing to stick with it.

This fifth chapter is the best one of a very irregular season that does not achieve to give us as good of vibrations as the previous ones.

This episode feels like for every step forward it takes one step back. It's a good episode, but we hope all the promising ideas we have here become real in the future.

After a strong start, A New Frontier ends on a slightly weak note with From the Gallows.

A poor ending to the weakest season to date, bogged down with inconsistent characterisation and a plot that ignores or discards many key threads.

Season 1 was brilliant, Season 2 started out well, seemed to lack a little something, then pulled it together for the ending. Unfortunately, Season 3 doesn't come anywhere near the previous seasons. It's not outright bad, it's just well in the shadows.Telltale does fix several problems that occurred in the previous seasons as they demonstrate strongly with "From the Gallows" a new storyline that revolves around a world that has had years to adapt to the walkers, people creating human "tribes" compared to Season 1 where no one understood how it all worked and tried to work together, or Season 2 which showed the downfall of society and normal trusting human interaction. New characters and a change from the traditional season ending are certainly welcome. This is also the first season where your choices will actually matter in the final episode (well some of them will). Where this season, particularly "From the Gallows" fall short is in poorly structured, rushed storytelling. Players will feel like "Is this it?" as the credits roll. The plot and emotions jump all over the place, and many plot points are simply abandoned. There is no true climax as seen in the other seasons and character deaths simply lack emotional impact by their poor handling and rushed continuation of the plot. Another area that made Season 1 spectacular and Season 3 falls short on is the ability is freely walk around and talk to other characters during down times, allowing you to get to know and care for characters as well as create your own personality (as with Lee and Clemintine in S2) This also means that you are constantly rushed through the gameplay, though timed dialogue choices broken up by quick time events which are so heavily used they lose their adrenaline impact. Many of the events that occur are repeated from other seasons and simply feel unnecessary as they do not add to the story, Overall the premises was promising and the attempt at changes were appreciated, but poor story-telling, reused plot devices, and rushed filler feeling to the Season will leave you feeling like something was missing. The after conclusion hints at Season 4, which many players will wish they had been playing instead.

Implausible behavior of characters paired with overall terrible dialogue options, together with unpredictable and therefore unsatisfying outcomes and in addition to that several bugs made this episode the worst of the entire franchise for me. Firing a gun while inside a herd with no consequences. Shot dead characters walking through the screen as nothing happend. Presumptuousness to place an ad for another game at the end.

Absolute trash. It's like they outsourced the story to the Telemundo's writing room so you get this horrible mind-numbing Spanish soap with absolutely no redeeming qualities. Nothing in the ending is resolved and you're hit with an after credits scene that says "Clementine's story will continue..." further proving they had absolutely no idea what to do with this season. GET THE REAL ENDING IN THE DLC :)
SummaryAfter society was ripped apart by undead hands, pockets of civilization emerge from the chaos. But at what cost? Can the living be trusted on this new frontier? Telltale’s latest episodic adventure in the world of the Walking Dead is now available on all your favorite devices.
