It is impossible not to feel nostalgic with The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition. An amazing remake of an amazing original game.

A dream come true for many gamers of the 1990s, this is a remake done right, with the care and attention this property deserves. In fact, if other adventure games get the same treatment, I would likely re-buy all of them just to experience the new graphics and sounds.

For $10, The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition is a fantastic remake of a classic game.

The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition comes highly recommended, whether or not you are a series aficionado like myself, or just a noob pirate.

The game only lasts about 5-6 hours, and many will find what's on offer exceedingly dull. Still, point-and-click fans and puzzle-adventure buffs should really enjoy it.

This is a must have all time classic masterpiece.. Monkey Island 1 i 2 in once package..lots of fun, puzzlez and one of the greatest story ever told in video games! I rate it 10/10

Monkey Island is a classic that breathes new life into the original from the 90 's. It has great humour, well done music and is one of the most memorable games I have ever played. It has the option to switch between the retro and new graphics, which appeals to both old and new people to the genre. However, the old graphics leave more room for imagination and the game technically has a built-in walk-through which ruins the game as it is to hard to resist, and should not be pressed until you are truly stuck. Regardless, The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition is definitely worth full price.

This game is full of goofy gags and is an overall good time. As far as point-and-click adventures go, the puzzles in The Secret of Monkey Island are not as often about critical thinking as it is about finding things. It almost gives the game a "Where's Waldo?" feel, as it challenges you to click every single pixel on a screen in case you missed an object or an interaction. The game is generally intentional with this style of gameplay, however I did find myself stuck in a way that the original game developers probably did not intend. For example, not knowing that you could walk to the edge of a particular screen and reveal an entirely new section of the game. There is one segment of the game that is particularly annoying in this regard, and it involves an overhead "map view." You'll know what I'm talking about once you get there, but make sure you click and explore every nook and cranny of that overhead view as you're playing. As the puzzles are generally not going to give you great "aha" moments, I think that using the hint button is a viable option in this game. Overall, I enjoyed this game for its writing and playful game mechanics even if there were several clunky parts of the UI and user experience. As for the Special Edition, I personally preferred the original graphics (which you can toggle freely during gameplay) as well as the UX of the original. Having the actions and items readily available to click at all times allows you to experiment and try many things very quickly, whereas the updated controls are quite a nuisance when you want to try multiple things. The pixelated look of the original was also much more appealing to me over the weird "flash animation" look of the new remaster. The only thing I sort of liked about the remastered edition was the voice acting and audio. If I could just toggle the voice acting to be on while I played with the original graphics, that would be perfect. I am a big fan of point-and-clicks, and The Secret of Monkey Island was a lot of fun. Verdict: GOOD

Comprendo que es un juego de hace 33 años y no explica ninguno de los pasos que hay que seguir para que el jugador se busque la vida para progresar pierda el tiempo que pierda. En su día no importaba porque la industria no era la de ahora y creo que incluso venía una guía en la misma caja del videojuego, pero a día de hoy cansa un poco el estar recorriendo los mapas una y otra vez, intentando cada una de las combinaciones de accion/objeto posibles, porque sí, muchas de las soluciones a los puzzles son estúpidas. Así es la trama del videojuego también. Cómica, pero estúpida. El control del puntero vía joystick tampoco es lo más cómodo que te puedas echar a la cara. Divertido para la época, no es ni de lejos mi género favorito ni me apetece volver a él a corto o medio plazo.
