The controls occasionally feel clunky. [Issue#141, p.117]

Quirky puzzles, nice storyline and out of the ordinary main character make this Agatha Christie tribute stand out from the vast masses of adventure games. If you're searching for mature content, this is your choice. [Aug 2013]
The first episode of The Raven trilogy is blink-and-you-miss-it short. The next time we’ll see the same events from the criminal’s point of view. Here is hoping that his version of the story is more interesting.

Puzzles in this game are rather logic/easy. Limited scenarios (a train, a ship) plus scarce interaction elements (characters, scene items/inventory items) lead to straightforward solutions to any puzzle the game throws at you. To make matters worse, The Raven uses a QoL system quite exceptional in the graphic adventure genre that consist of removing from interaction any "useless" or "padding" item in the scene you already examined. At first it seems a great improvement, but it ends up hindering playability because it greatly reduces the set of possible actions, rendering the classic try-anything-on-anything strategy a viable one. Character quality is a mix bag. Some of them are well written, others, whose role end up gaining weight as the story progresses, are dull and uninteresting. This game tells a classic whodunit story with a surprising but unsatisfying ending. I don’t want to get into spoiler territory, I will just say that the mystery is solved in a hurry, the final events feel improbable and the final situation of certain characters raises so many unanswered questions, the most obvious being: How on earth did they escape the crime scene? One does not have the spare time to replay the whole game, but I am pretty sure that if I did I would find some big fat plot holes in the script.

Cool mystery, nice point & click game, bug filled. The graphics are good, the environments are beautiful, nice change of scenery between chapters but the animations for the characters are robotic and stiff to a point where the voices are really good but the animation cannot pass the same emotion as the voice or not as good making it funny in a bad way. Normally, point & click games have troubles in changing rooms or places but this game took it to another level; lots of times the controlled character passes the point where the camera should change but doesn't, making him walk to a wall or walk aimlessly without moving. The mystery is really good, the writing and the dialog is great, every character feels like a person in dialog(not animation), but everything else holds this game back so much. If you like Point & Click games, or a good mystery you will find it ok. If not, then the bugs, very precise clicks will annoy you and better to stay off.

With so much of the story left to see, it’s hard to make any definitive calls on the overall quality of The Raven: Legacy of a Master Thief. As for the first chapter though, I am waiting with baited breath to see where the story goes, and to continue on this adventure with Constable Zellner. For fans of the adventure genre, this is an easy one to recommend. For everyone else, there is nothing quite like a good mystery, and this, so far, is absolutely one of the good ones.

The Raven is an engaging and fun point and click whodunit type of mystery/adventure that I'm happy to recommend. This opening act does a great job of hooking the player with an interesting cast characters and a story that I'm eager to play out.

Game Stop... Your Review is very dull and unprofessional. I Recommend that you never do reviews ever again. Unless you like losing your customers. Anyway This game is quite prodigious. The graphics were Stunning, The colors were beautiful, and the game play smooth and precise. Its only $24.99 on steam.... how can you give this such a lousy rating?

I love this game and I can't wait to play the second part. The Story makes this game really awesome. The puzzles are very logical and the characters are very interesting. The graphics could be a little bit more realistic but the game itself compensates this a million times! :-) definite recommendation!

Has everything you want from this kind of cozy mystery: a high-stakes crime, over-the-top suspects and a plucky everyman sleuth. The story and acting are pitch-perfect and will engage even the fussiest armchair detectives, so long as they can put up with the game's mechanical shortcomings.

Where The Raven excels is in the portrayal of its characters, its game world and its mystery.

King Art manages to install an atmosphere and story that will capture the attention of Agatha Christie styled novels. But they will still have to make do with a less-than perfect interface, and some bugs. More importantly, one will have to trust while waiting for the second and third episodes to be released... and given the price of the lot, maybe it's best to wait for them to come out.

As a three-episode game, so far we can state it is, indeed, very promising. Its story is fun and engaging, but the game is only available in English and German, which could be an issue for those unfamiliar with these languages.

The game's real problem is simply that it's boring.

Excellent game! Lots of fun for any mystery lover. The atmosphere is beautiful, and the characters were pretty interesting. I usually don't play adventure games, but was very impressed with this one.

I think it's a good start. Okay, if you're expecting tough puzzles and many hotspots, then this isn't right for you but if you're hoping for a decent crime story with awesome music and decent voice acting then this first episode might be a good choice.

An enjoyable game, steady paced with lots of dialogue a nice break from an FPS for me and graphically and musically good also. Basic and easy to grasp controls with a decent story in 3 parts, 1st part takes around 3-4 hours to complete so for a £20 release for all 3 parts not a bad deal. The puzzles are essentially straight forward, some easier some harder than others but not to the extent that you need to constantly alt-tab out to a walkthrough. I can't give this game a 10 as that would be silly as it is not a AAA release that takes you to the next level of invention, complexity or graphics but what it does do it does very nicely and is a great example of a point and click game lovers of George Stobart in the Broken Sword games this will certainly appeal to you its the closest comparison i can make for would be purchasers.

I'm mystified how this game is getting such high ratings. I'm an adventure game player and I can tell you that this game is BEYOND TEDIOUS and frustrating. At one point, the train car crashes and all the lights go out so you're left to basically feel your way around to find four different items (including matches) to light a torch. It's not fun at all. The only good thing I can say about this game is the decent graphics and a likable main character. It takes too long for the characters to react, for example, when I want to walk from point A to point B, I have to wait for the character to turn around, pause, then start walking to get to point B, and it is SLOW. Also, the dialogue is redundant and ENDLESS. Not fun at ALL. Unless you want to be VERY fustrated, DO NOT BUY THIS GAME!
