Super Bomberman R2 is a game that you can enjoy if you want to play online or offline party games with your friends. But you shouldn't expect much more.
Super Bomberman R 2’s best parts are the ones carried over from older games in the series. Messing around with friends in local and online matches is still fun, and if that's all you're interested in, it's a fine enough experience. Unfortunately, that’s a small portion of the game, making it hard to recommend.

Super Bomberman R 2's extensive set of classically entertaining multiplayer modes, powerful but frustrating level editor, and fun customization options give you more than enough to do to make up for the dull story mode. Though it doesn't completely atone for its predecessor's throwaway plot, simplistic character models, and lack of content, it changes things up enough to court both new and old fans. With its large-scale Battle 64 battle royale and a new tower defense-inspired Castle mode, it’s worth playing for a few new spins on the age-old idea of blowing your friends up.

A konami odeia BomberMan, é fato! O jogo é medíocre. O modo história é infantil, sem graça e não suporta co-op. Mal otimizado. Loadings demorados. Apenas o modo batalha se salva e olha lá.

SCORE: 6/10 — A MIXED BAG OF BLASTS Super Bomberman R 2 delivers the classic explosive gameplay fans expect, but it’s weighed down by unnecessary bloat. THE PROS: The Battle 64 mode is a fantastic battle-royale addition, and the local multiplayer remains a top-tier party experience. The cast of Konami guest characters also adds great flair. THE CONS: The new Castle Mode feels unbalanced, and the single-player campaign is a repetitive slog filled with tedious backtracking. Most frustrating is the online mode rotation, which prevents you from playing specific modes at will. THE FINAL VERIDCT: This game is great for local gatherings, but the clunky story and restrictive online systems make it a step back from being the definitive Bomberman experience.

It´s a really good game, the story mode is kinda desesperating but is the only problem I saw, the multiplayer is really good as the local co-op multiplayer. I think it could´ve been better but is a really good game, the bomberman bros are really funny.

Super Bomberman R 2 is an explosive romp. Classic Bomberman grid mechanics with neat twists in additional modes, with new rules to keep things fresh. In some ways it is a fitting celebration of four decades of bombs - fast, nippy multiplayer gameplay at its core, with cute, colourful characters to tie everything together. Does it push beyond Super Bomberman R? In some ways, yes, but there could well have been more to take this sequel to the next level. That said, those looking for a Bomberman adventure on the Nintendo Switch should hop on into Super Bomberman R 2 with open arms, preferably holding a bomb or two.

Super Bomberman R 2 is a triumphant and feature-rich return for the explosive icon. The new Castle mode brings some interesting twists to the classic formula (though the level editor feels like it could use a little more work) while all the chaotic arcade gameplay that’s carried this series for 40 years proves to be just as compelling as it’s always been. Pair that addictive gameplay with an extensive multiplayer suite and lots of unlockables, and you’ve got something that’s easy to recommend to anyone looking for the next great multiplayer release to break out on game night. It’s a little less easy to recommend if you intend on playing entirely solo—the single-player offering is a bit thin here—but the endless replayability of the online component makes it a great pick otherwise.

For a while there, things weren’t looking so great for Bomberman, one of the most underappreciated gaming mascots out there. But it feels like the weird, little guy’s alive and kicking now, with two retail games within a few years of each other and more. Super Bomberman R 2 isn’t the ultimate Bomberman experience, but it’s a cute, wholesome package of old school, multiplayer videogame glee. Which is weird to say about a game with Pyramid Head in it.

Super Bomberman R 2 is a very fun game full of content for fans of the series. From the new Castle mode to Konami's great roster of characters, this is a great celebration of the Bomberman franchise. It may not innovate too much, but it's still a game we would recommend, especially if you have friends to play with.

Konami hasn’t put in all the effort it should’ve in Super Bomberman R 2. The new modes and innovations compared to the classic Bomberman aren’t particularly enjoyable and underutilize a very powerful gameplay core. Furthermore, the Nintendo Switch version suffers from performance and resolution issues.

An unimpressive and incremental sequel to an already underwhelming game, Konami is in desperate need of doing something interesting with the Bomberman formula. Luckily for Konami, the time worn Bomberman gameplay is still a blast, and new online modes are sure to please longtime fans, but it’s hard to justify spending the full price of a retail game on a title that doesn’t do enough to earn that price tag. I’ll have to forget my dreams of a true reinvention along the lines of Pac-man Championship Edition DX+ for now.

I’ll give credit where it’s due; I appreciate that Super Bomberman R 2 does try a few new things with its Story mode that we haven’t really seen in previous entries, including a progression system where you actually level up rather than just collecting the standard power-ups. Even though moving from area to area just to round up all the Ellons gets old pretty quick, it’s definitely novel for a Bomberman game. Unfortunately, what’s meant to be the star of the show, Castle mode, just isn’t a very compelling addition. Even for diehard fans, I’d find R 2 to be a difficult recommendation. I may break it out from time to time for a few online matches, but I doubt I’ll spend even a fraction of the time I did with Super Bomberman R Online on this latest game. It may just be time to re-invent Bomberman for the modern era, and while I’m eager to see what that might look like, unfortunately for now, your Bomberman is in another castle.

Local multiplayer is what saves this game from being a total waste of money. However, many options present in the original game were simply removed. Story mode is single player only. It's bland and uninteresting and Castle levels make it nearly unplayable. I cannot stress enough how everyone should skip this in favor of the first game (which, I have to say, is far from being great, but still better than this mess).

This game got my hopes up for a massive letdown. If I had to summarize it, it's "The Sonic '06 of Bomberman". The main meat of the game is in the campaign, something for some reason not many people come to Bomberman for. And... it's a WHOLE MESS. The gameplay loop is unique at first, but quickly becomes repetitive, with the only thing changing being the difficulty of the challenges laid before you in each world. There is also the Castle Battle aspect of story mode, which is it's OWN MESS. On one hand, the gameplay of exploring is randomly interrupted to have you protect your HQ from enemy attacks through a Castle Battle where you're on the defending side. However, you can very easily make it so it is IMPOSSIBLE for the enemy to win, even if you do NOTHING. If you do this, each time you're interrupted from exploring, it's less defending your HQ and more wasting your time for the sake of wasting time. Then there are also the Castle Battles where you and the other Bombermen on your team are on the attacking side, where the goal is to grab the "ellonite". But if anyone else on your team grabs it first, YOU LOSE. Everyone on your team has the same goal, but you only win if YOU are the person who captures the "ellonite". IT MAKES NO SENSE. Not to mention all the text the devs fell asleep on their keyboards while typing, without bothering to fix. And the villain... The villain has the most complex, and genuinely interesting and amazing backstory and motivation I've ever seen, but it's RUINED by being packaged with such a BAD campaign! Konami somehow made their sequel worse, and that's a sad sign that this series, ever since Hudson was acquired by them, is doomed. Even the best thing they added to the sequel, Louies, is battle mode exclusive, and there only exists the Green Louie. They did LOUIES an injustice... In a Bomberman game. That is a war-crime and a half. I... honestly can't even believe this game was allowed to come out like this. Like I said, this game is "the Sonic '06 of Bomberman", and that's really saying something. Anyway if you're reading this PLEASE check out "A Bomberman Journey" on Youtube if you already haven't, since it explains a LOT of my frustration.

Very poor graphics compared to other platforms (Steam, PS4, Xbox etc), slow loading speed, lack of options for games with 2 players from the same location and others online. By far the worst investment ever made in a game, especially considering the fact that this is the 40th anniversary of the Bomberman franchise.
