Sunblaze
Sunblaze is a deceivingly cute game that will definitely kick your butt. Luckily with great accessibility options this game is playable for a wider audience and not just a super frustrating experience. Unless you enjoy that.
This is not a game I can recommend for its uniqueness. It’s not a game that tells an interesting story. It’s not even a game that gets it right all the time. What it is, is solid. Fun. It’s fast-paced and endlessly engaging. It’s challenging, and full of clever design that I only wish would have been explored even earlier in the experience. And I have to say, it had me glued to it for a while there as I finished up the hard modes. This is definitely one you need to check out if you like this genre but just be aware that what you see is what you get, it never dives any deeper. It often reaches excellence but doesn’t stick around for long.
Sunblaze earns its place as a brutal but mostly fair challenge. It is exciting and fresh in its gameplay in a lot of ways that people should pay attention to. The difficulty will be satisfying for some but frustrating for others. Whilst a lacking story holds it back, clever design mechanics propel it forward. With all that said, when you’re dying every seven seconds, it’s easy for any shining praise to start to dull.

This game is almost perfect. Almost. The only thing I dislike is the way the game rewards the players. Your reward for completing a hard challenge is more hard challenges, which is not something I like.

Sunblaze is a game that will take several hours and tries to beat it, but makes it feel like it was worth it. What I was positively surprised by was the included zen mode that gives opportunities for everyone to tip their toes in precision platformer genre. Not only is are the levels modified to be easier, many are cut out making the experience shorter. Zen mode also includes accessibility functions that can be added by the player if needed. While there's no epic story to the game, what is there I found was cute and the jokes landed (at least for me).

A hard precision platformer. Beating a game would take you several hours and hundreds of deaths. But it is worth it, as the story is beautiful. The growth of Sunblaze is fun to observe, hard to share (because you will die a lot), and beautiful to witness.

Sunblaze will push your platforming skills to the limit. Still, as the challenge rises, so does the knowledge that everything in this game can be overcome with a few well-timed jumps and dashes. The charming design is contrasted by the bloody obstacles that await each level, creating a fun challenge that won’t leave you with too many broken controllers.

Everything about Sunblaze feels like a budget Celeste and that's okay. While not a knockoff there are major similarities with the greatest game ever made Celeste. Sunblaze does a good job at being different enough where it works perfectly. The platforming gimmicks are almost entirely original, the music is great and the gameplay is crispy. They hit the level of challenge that I am looking for when playing a puzzle platformer. I hope more Celeste inspired games get made in the future because this one nailed the style and gameplay.

SummarySunblaze is an upcoming precision platformer with pixelart graphics and more than 300 levels. The game is inspired by Celeste but with a heavier emphasis on puzzling, and with different mechanics. It takes place inside a training simulator, where Josie (aka Sunblaze) is being trained to be a superhero by her father.
