LucasArts generally exercised greater quality control of Star Wars games than most licensed properties receive, though that didn't necessarily translate into titles that were actually good. I've played a few other Star Wars games in the past, and while the SNES platformers were pretty good, this one is even better. Knights of the Old Republic may just be the best game in the franchise, and succeeds at being a top-tier RPG even if one has no interest in Star Wars. BioWare did the license proud.
I wound up bailing out on Star Wars: The Old Republic well before hitting the level cap, but not before digging into it more so than any other MMO I've played. Even if it is an unhappy marriage between two wildly different game types, the fact that it kept me hooked for so long at least counts for something.
A good game. It pays excellent homage to the film series (even though it's set before the movies), and is a really solid MMO.

Absolutely fantastic game with beautiful graphics, great story modes and also very fun modes to play with friends. If you like star wars just a little bit you're going to absolutely love this game. Only problem is the fact that being a f2p player is considerable limiting.

-Quick Review-Star Wars: The Old Republic is an MMORPG developed by BioWare and later handed off to Broadsword Online Games. You’ll create a character for the Old Galactic Republic or Sith Empire, level up, collect gear, vanity pets and mounts, complete quests, get achievements, collect decorations and buy houses, level up more, and run around on numerous planets from the Star Wars franchise. The biggest standout features in The Old Republic are the Class Related Quests, and the incredible amount of voiced dialogue in the game. I played for around 350 hours as a Free to Play Account before deciding to chip in $15 for a subscription for a month, and to unlock more character slots, and see the rest of the content. After my account relapsed into “Preferred status” (Free to play: Never bought anything. Preferred: Has more perks, but back to FTP restrictions), I finished playing as all the different classes and chipped away at achievements casually. I may resubscribe occasionally for future content, but one subscription was enough for me for now. (If I do resubscribe again I’ll have saved up lots of credits and know exactly what premium stuff I want before my subscription ends again, stuff like housing upgrades requiring over 1 mil credits, or buying stuff in general costing over 1 mil credits.) -Detailed breakdown review-Story: In general sweeping terms, you’re playing as a character for the Empire or Republic, who is part of a 3 Act Structure, usually the first act is about some kind of growth or a hunt or something, then the second act is an in-between character development series for you and your crew, and lastly act 3 ends on Correllia (Probably the worst planet to navigate in the game, to think the YT-1300, YT-2000, and YT-2400 light freighters were made here. No wonder everyone wants to leave the darn planet, it’s a cartography-deathtrap).After you’ve, become the Hero of the Republic/Empire, Ultimate Bounty Hunter / Agent, Jedi Master, Sith Lord, whatever your “final form” might be at the end of Act 3, you can continue your journey with the expansions which came out! Even as a Free to Play Account, you can access a few of the expansions: Rise of the Hutt Cartel, Galactic Starfighter, Galactic Strongholds, and lastly Shadow of Revan. With the expansions, there will be some call-backs to your past deeds, for example as a Bounty Hunter, on the planet Rishi (the Shadow of Revan Expansion) there was reference to my status as “Grand Champion of the Great Hunt”. And all the way to the Legacy of the Sith Expansion, my status as a Mandalorian is acknowledged and kinship with Torrian being particularly special. Gameplay: You know how most MMORPG’s control, right? Movement with WASD on the keyboard, looking around with the mouse, abilities and skills bound to 1-9 on the keyboard or click ‘em on the action bar with your mouse, get experience for killing stuff and completing quests, level up to get stronger new abilities, and as you reach higher levels equip gear to give you beneficial stats to increase your damage and health pool. (Most people are familiar with MMO concepts, if you’re not feel free to let me know and I’ll write it out or send ‘ya a link to a beginners video or something)Star Wars: The Old Republic has all the typical expected MMORPG things with a Star Wars coat of paint over the top. Level up via questing, dungeons, or grinding exp out some other way. At Max level after you’ve finished the content you work at getting the best gear with the best stats. Once I reached that point, I marked The Old Republic as complete, I was in a raiding guild a lifetime ago on World of Warcraft and I won’t go back to that life in any game… and once I reach that point in any MMO it’s time for me to bow out. (I’m not going to log on and play a video game like it’s my job… unless you want to pay me how much I earn for working, I’ll do it then! DM me your best offers. lol) However, the journey to get to that point was enjoyable and I’m satisfied with my experience playing The Old Republic! You have 8 Classes in total, but they mirror each other so, for the Republic you have “Jedi Knight” which plays the same as the “Sith Warrior” on the Empire side… the remaining classes are: Jedi Consular / Sith Inquisitor, Republic Trooper / Imperial Agent, Smugger / Bounty Hunter. Each Class also has its own Starship, and group of companions who join you for the adventure! At character creation you choose your faction, be it Republic or Imperial, then choose and customize your species ranging from Human, Cyborg, and Zabrak… then they get ya as a FTP account because you can’t play as Twi’lek, Miraluka, Chiss, Sith Pureblood, etc unless you subscribe. …There's more to the review, but I'm out of Characters... Top tier MMORPG game. It has one too many bugs/issues that are fairly simple to fix ,which is the reason for my lower score. Generally the game is what you would expect. You get to pick your own destiny. The mechanics are simple. The game has a lot to offer. There are quests you could do alone or with a friend. I found a bounty hunters guild where we have a discord server and do marches 2-3 times a month and it's really fun :). There are animations, lore, of course payed content as well.

They have succeeded far beyond my admittedly high expectations. As a KOTOR fan, I finally have my long-awaited sequel(s). As an MMO fan, I am hooked. As a Star Wars fan, I am enthralled.

While Bioware might be called out for playing it a bit safe and sticking to an already familiar MMO formula, the game still has plenty to keep both Star Wars and MMO fans engaged. If you're looking for a fleshed-out MMO that isn't as overcrowded as WoW, then this is the game for you.

Incredible amount of content. This game holds the record for the most hours of recorded dialogue of any game, and by far. A true star wars game, it just feels right. The planets, the music, the world building. The perfect star wars rpg. I don't really consider the MMO aspect.

Star Wars: The Old Republic is an incredibly enjoyable experience, perfect for beginners looking to dive into an MMO. It's an amazing free-to-play game, made even better if you're a Star Wars fan. The graphics remain impressive, and the combination of outstanding voice acting and impactful choices sets it apart from other games.

The Old Republic is here to stay, and offers epic galactic adventures making the most of the Star Wars universe. Although it doesn't evolve the gameplay of the genre, with a very conservative style, it takes a leap in improving the narrative, successfully achieving to tell a great story. We are eagerly waiting for updates and improvements in the future.

Star Wars: The Old Republic is an MMO founded upon a conservative, yet improving mentality. It delievers a great amount of good content within the Star Wars universe, and is by far one of the best games this genre has seen the last ten years.

BioWare has done what many thought might be impossible, and delivered the world's second ever triple-A MMO. That is a mighty achievement and a huge relief. But it may yet turn out to be too little - or rather, too much - too late.

A MMORPG that doesn't differentiate itself very much from other popular MMORPG titles (like World of Warcraft), but with a greater focus on story, companions and of course the Star Wars setting, The Old Republic is still a solid game.

There are 3 ways to play this game. Totally F2P, subscribed, or preferred (have subscribed/did IAP but currently not), and I’ll say I’m comfortable enough with any of those three. I am now playing as a preferred player and I still enjoy this game as much. This is one of the best MMO to go back to, hands down.

I have big problem only with 1 thing ,Some things should be free (with in-game currency), but they are behind a paywall, which doesn't just make the game harder, but actually complicates or even ruins it.

I am a founder for this game, which means I've played it since launch, 15 years ago. I was also a closed beta tester for months before release, and continued to be a closed tester in a special group post-launch, for many years. I adored this game, I talked to the devs directly, and helped improve it over the years, in any way I could. I rate this game as it is today, and I give it 4 out of 10. I mostly do group activity and it's becoming difficult to do that. The servers are not as stable as they used to be over the years and the disconnects are more frequent. However, every time you are disconnected you are also given a gameplay penalty so you can't play group activities when you get back in. 15 minutes, 1 hour and 6 hour penalties, incrementally for each disconnect. I'm not talking about free to play either; they do this to their paying customers. We pay to play and they lock you out of playing because their servers are unstable, or whatever other things that are out of your control. The other reason I rate it so low today is because I just see no value in it for the money. We are still asked to pay $15 per month, but we don't see any expansions or quality content. $15 a month is $180 a year. Games are still $60-70, the same as they were years ago. That means we are asked to pay for 3 full games per year, and receive nothing in return for it, not the way we used to. No expansions, no major content, no major balance patches... nothing. Not even the communication we used to have. Zilch. Nada. The game is in maintenance mode while they are asking for the price of 3 full games. Gaming studios spend years, with hundreds of staff, and tens of millions of dollars in investment, and they charge $60 for it in the end. And these folks are trying to charge 3 times that much for no new content, and increasingly poor server stability. And then they slap penalties on top of it, and don't even let you play what you already paid for. There is just no value in it today. I'm sure some still do see value and many still play it, but after 15 years, for me at least, the value is gone. I miss the game this used to be.

I loved KOTOR 1 and 2, and since SWTOR was free, I decided to give it a whirl. Sorry I did. I wasted about 3 days and $15 on a subscription trying to get into it, but just couldn't. I'm not a huge fan of MMOs but there are a few that I love. This game is not one of them. Let me break down the good and bad points. GOOD 100% Free To Play Both PVE and PVP choices Great character creation and customization Lots of quests Lots of weapons/Armor Pretty nice loot system Huge game world THE BAD Terribly outdated graphics Boring and repetitive side quests All the main story lines are garbage Poor voice acting on many characters Ambient sounds lack realism Combat system is not very good Limited healing options when solo Limited options to actually play solo I guess that's about it. In closing, I'll give this horrible attempt at a Star Wars game a 4 for effort.
