Star Wars: Racer Revenge
With all the right elements to make a stellar racing game, Star Wars Racer Revenge fails to inspire true excitement or bring something wholly different.
To say you need quick reflexes to survive this would be an understatement—it’s almost like you need to use a mystical, ambivalent power to help guide you through it. Sort of like the movie.

Sure, it's repetitive, unoriginal, and not very challenging, but we have two words for you: Star Wars. [8 March 2002, p.77]

I love this game! It is way better than the original and no one can change my mind, I got a PS2 just so I could play it as I didn't want to pay for PSNow.

There's a constant sense of achievement and unlike many sci-fi-themed racers, it doesn't get old as it always manages to stay so exciting and fun. [Apr 2002, p.106]

The addition of rewarding knockouts does add a new dimension to the gameplay, but sacrificing the difficulty of the tracks may turn off some players.

Don’t be mistaken into thinking this is a ridiculously deep racer, but for a pure arcade experience, you’ll find little else that offers this type of racing fun, and actually uses the oft-wasted Star Wars license in a compelling way.

It doesn’t break any new ground. I don’t care if the heads-up display tells me I’m going 600 mph, the sensation of speed isn’t any greater than in Mario Cart.

An excellent "pick-up-and-play" title. The trouble is most will be satisfied enough by "picking up" the controller just once to play this.

High-speed, podracing action is back. This sequel admittedly doesn't do too much different outside of giving gamers more content and having a new emphasis on vehicular combat (you can now K.O. you opponents by destroying their podracer), but it's hard to complain when the racing is this good. Excellent track design and a nice selection of racers are sure to keep you coming back to tackle all of the game's challenges. Setting best times, completing tournaments with different characters, and even (locally) duking it out with a buddy are all distraction the game has to offer. While perhaps not having the most robust selection of modes, the game manages to keep you hooked thanks to just the all around solid gameplay. Plus, it's Star Wars. So that helps. Really the biggest issue the game has is that it doesn't always offer the best challenge. Most races will fly by without giving you a fight. I found that only some of the later races in the tournament mode actually made me worry, outside of one map that was actually downright brutal. Yet, even if it won't always test you in the traditional races, objectives like setting records are sure to give you a challenge if you need one. It's minor flaws don't detract from the fact that is an excellent racing game. One that makes great use of an exciting concept from the Star Wars universe. Any fan should check it out, be they fans of racing or the films.

It felt kinda slow compared to the "prequel" but I really like the fact that you can destroy your enemies. Overall solid and great game maybe a bit too easy.

This game is nowhere near as good as its predecessor Star Wars Episode 1 Racer.
