This Is just like Botw and Hi-Fi Rush had a baby! And the postman was Tony Hawk...
Love It. The music hit hard, the world Is beautifull and the surfboard is addictive.

It's actually quite okay, especially for the price. This game is a constant "I have no idea what I'm doing, but it's fun" feeling. The world is bizzare. The whole setting with the music and everything, I quite like it, it's Cyberpunk-ish, but also unique and consistent. The game is indeed pretty primitive, but it's more or less like playing BotW lite, if you want to play some sandboxy adventure, but not too vast, not too complex, this is it. A cheap and good, I would even say polished, game. Really nice. I like it. As I said, especially for the very low price.

Star Overdrive shines for its fun proposal and competent execution, which I applaud for its hoverboard and narrative. It ends up being a great choice for those who enjoy non-linear exploration with hints of mystery, puzzles and a touch of adrenaline. However, if you're looking for something with the same level of quality as Breath of the Wild, some things will end up disappointing here and show a lack of polish.

Star Overdrive has been a great surprise for me: the trailer looked cool, kind of mixing Zelda BOTW and Skate together, and my expectations were quite high, but I was glad that they didn't let me down. The gameplay feels very smooth, my favorite part - it goes almost without saying - is roaming around the desert dunes with the hoverboard and gaining as much speed as possible, but the surprise I was referring to is the combat: I was scared that I would have had a hard time enjoying it (since it's not my usual cup of tea), but playing has a very different feeling than seeing trailers and videos; it's smooth, kind of goofy in a good way, almost as if the game doesn't want to take yourself too seriously, and the powers are super cool.
As I imagined, a lot of work was put in the hoverboard: tons of upgrades, skins, resources to collect to make it faster, stronger, more powerful; you will invest time to improve it, and to maintain it as well, and it does get you attached to it in a way.
The movement is very accessible, but you'll need to get a grasp of how it works to make the most out of the experience - and your tools.
Honorable mention: giant worms surfing in and out of sand dunes.
Overall, it's a game that keeps you engaged, but doesn't punish you if you can only play it in your spare time.

Star Overdrive sets out to deliver a multifaceted sci-fi experience, merging open-world exploration, real-time combat, and narrative-driven progression. While the concept is ambitious, the execution reveals significant shortcomings. The hoverboard traversal system is fluid and stands out as a rare highlight, complemented by a well-produced, atmospheric soundtrack. However, these strengths are undermined by poorly balanced combat mechanics, shallow enemy AI, and a progression system that lacks meaningful player agency. The narrative, despite its initial intrigue, quickly becomes formulaic and predictable, offering little incentive to stay invested. Star Overdrive has potential, but in its current state, it feels more like a proof of concept than a polished product.

I just finished my first run. The end is too much for me, something that I was anticipating but could not fully predict, and the entire story is built it so well that I wish it will be a sequel for this game. About the gameplay: Hoverboard is just cool and something new, worth the ticket only for that. Exploration is rewarding and relaxing, the puzzles you find around the map (Zelda Shrines) are very cool and pays respect to my brain without making me feel stupid or too smart, and they gave me a couple of very satisfying moments. Crafting is ok, you just need to trow everything you collect to get better pieces, I got what I believe is a end-game hoverboard after half of the story, because I enjoyed a lot the exploration. I feel that the best and most useful power of this game is given too far in the story (maybe because the game changes and becomes very easy with it). Combat is weird: nobody tells you that you have heavy attacks and comboes, air strikes and so on, you have to discover it (and makes the difference) but most important I used them in minor part anyway because the powers you unlock are so useful and well thought to damage and to increase the weapon damage, they are also very creative but I feel that i scratched the surface. Star Overdrive seems to be the first game of a 10 people team and needs to be praised (would be an 8.5 to me) because it is something fresh, but at the same time old school in a weird (right) way.

I really wanted to like this game because it basically looked like a Zelda-like with a Hoverboard and for me that sounded awesome. And cruising around with your hoverboard and finding the highest slopes to jump from and doing tricks is really fun. You can also customize your board by adding modules which also improve various stats of it and there are abilities for your character too. But sadly besides the hover-boarding it feels very clunky and unpolished. Walking around is really weird because it is a lower gravity environment and everything feels a little off. Jumping and landing precisely afterwards is also weird because of that effect. And I wouldn't mind it if it was for gameplay reasons but it feels unintentional and cheap. The combat is really slow and tedious and lacks real impact on the enemies when you hit them and the controls in general feel very laggy and not precise. The sound design is awful in my opinion - a mix of no sounds at all (or very, very quiet ambient noises) and then all of a sudden some Zelda like jingle plays because you did something. The main character lacks any personality and is mute, but not "Link mute" where there is still some personality to be found in grunts or other sounds when getting hit or something but absolutely mute like no sounds or emotions at all. I don't know if that's intentional but it's really weird for me. Sadly the map also lacks personality - it is quite big and pleasant to look at but there isn't much to do besides hovering around. The game didn't really encourage me to explore. I did also run into performance issues, especially when driving fast on the hoverboard. And I ran in other random bugs but no serious thing. It's not a bad game, it's a very cool and creative approach but it lacks a lot of polish in my opinion. If you generally like this kind of games, you'd probably still enjoy it but sadly it didn't click for me.

Not perfect, but when the hoverboard gameplay is this good, who cares? Just one more run always turns into ten. The board customization is also satisfying. Spent hours just tweaking the boards look.

Star Overdrive it's a big surprise, is not perfect but it deserves more attention. It’s one of those rare games that dares to mix things you didn’t expect to work together, and sometimes, they really do, sometimes a little less. At its core, it’s a game about speed and style. The hoverboard is a joy to control:so fluid that just riding around the desert tracks, pulling off tricks and chaining boosts, would almost be enough. But there’s more. A lot more.
Combat blends physics-based powers that interact in clever ways, often leading to unexpected solutions and some truly satisfying moments. And when the game shifts gears into the massive worm chases, it hits a whole different level... intense. The world seems vast, lonely but never empty. The landscapes feels like giant playgrounds for your hoverboard. Add to that a customization system packed with unlockable skins and parts, and it’s easy to lose hours just exploring and tweaking your **** story, too, surprised me. It’s emotional, with a central character you don’t control but who steals the spotlight: her voice acting is very good, and her mix of strength and vulnerability carries the narrative. There are real twists in the story, some expected and some not. Even the lighter systems, like crafting, hit the sweet spot: simple if you want them to be, deep if you choose to dig in (I choose not to, I'm not much into that). It’s easy to compare Star Overdrive to Breath of the Wild, and sure, it borrows in smart ways, and is not at the same level, but it absolutely has its own voice. Its own weird, scrappy, stylish soul. It’s not flawless. But if you care about movement, exploration, or just want something different, this one’s worth your time. I’m glad it exists.

Star Overdrive is not perfect, far from it. But it is precisely in this imperfection that it shines. In a sea of generic games that stick to safe formulas, it stands out for trying something new, even if it stumbles along the way. It is a game with soul, with personality, and with a proposal that mixes nostalgia and originality in a way that is uncommon in the current **** retrofuturistic world, the solitary and contemplative vibe of exploration, and the creative use of the hoverboard and the Keytar show that, despite the inevitable comparisons to Zelda, Star Overdrive wants to be more than a shadow, it wants to be remembered for its own ****, the combat is weak, the progression sometimes hinders more than it helps, and the bosses… well, let's hope for updates. But none of this erases the fact that this is a journey worth experiencing. Especially if you are tired of more of the same and want something that embraces the boldness of making mistakes in the name of creating something truly unique. Star Overdrive is, ultimately, a love letter to creativity, and for all its ups and downs, it deserves to be played. patobah com br

Worth it just for the dunes-worm fights alone. I love the hoverboard swooshing exploration that you cant see in any other game

Perfect game to just zone out and ride while putting on some music and lose yourself riding in the desert for **** favorite track is "Hot Rush" I'll literally boot up the game just to listen to it while riding.

This is what Sonic Frontiers should have been — a pure gem that even Breath of the Wild fans won’t regret playing.

A game inspired by the latest Zelda games, Star Overdrive is an excellent open world where the feeling of solitude is very present. The mines (equivalent to Botw's sanctuaries) offer very interesting puzzles, the combat system is very good, bosses are crazy, the unlocked powers do the job. The map is really fun to explore, good feeling of speed after a few hours, catapulting your character is a rare sensation! What can I say about the rock album unlockable in the game, a killer! A game to absolutely do for fans of the Zelda Botw/Totk formula! One of the latest pearls of the Switch, for sure!

This game is an amazing experience that soothes the Legend of Zelda itch. The hoverboard traversal is really fun. An absolute must play.

This is the best freaking game the Nintendo Switch has ever seen. This is Zelda meets hot wheels. Play it, finish it and then come back to share love.

Pros:
-BOTW-style exploration but faster
-Mines are excellent puzzle spaces
-Great sense of progression
Cons:
-A bit too derivative at times
-Could use more enemy types

It’s got that Zelda vibe but with its own indie personality. Runs smoothly on the Switch and it’s clear the devs care about this game. Worth your time and support!

A game of this size, with this graphics running this well on Switch it's a miracle. Even Zelda is not this stable.
