Star Overdrive has been a great surprise for me: the trailer looked cool, kind of mixing Zelda BOTW and Skate together, and my expectations were quite high, but I was glad that they didn't let me down. The gameplay feels very smooth, my favorite part - it goes almost without saying - is roaming around the desert dunes with the hoverboard and gaining as much speed as possible, but the surprise I was referring to is the combat: I was scared that I would have had a hard time enjoying it (since it's not my usual cup of tea), but playing has a very different feeling than seeing trailers and videos; it's smooth, kind of goofy in a good way, almost as if the game doesn't want to take yourself too seriously, and the powers are super cool. As I imagined, a lot of work was put in the hoverboard: tons of upgrades, skins, resources to collect to make it faster, stronger, more powerful; you will invest time to improve it, and to maintain it as well, and it does get you attached to it in a way. The movement is very accessible, but you'll need to get a grasp of how it works to make the most out of the experience - and your tools. Honorable mention: giant worms surfing in and out of sand dunes. Overall, it's a game that keeps you engaged, but doesn't punish you if you can only play it in your spare time.
