Souldiers
Souldiers certainly won't be to everyone's taste, due to its lackluster plot and technical hiccups, but it's definitely one to check out if you are into Metroidvania or Souls-like games.
Souldiers manages to marry the chibi aesthetic with challenging gameplay and an interesting combat system. Some minor mishaps in handling and pacing detract from the overall experience, but it's still an honest solution.
Souldiers is a must-play title for anyone who loves Metroidvania-style games with RPG and platforming elements thrown in. Despite a few hiccups at launch, v1.1.1 addresses all the issues, making this gorgeous-looking and -sounding game one you shouldn’t miss!

This game had every chance of being amazing, almost a pixel masterpiece (more or less), but something went wrong... It has gorgeous pixel art, decent music, a good variety of monsters, bosses, items, and other attributes **** fantasy platformer. The story is good enough, without any spectacular revelations, but quite interesting. Up to a certain point, I would definitely recommend the game even without any discounts. But then... well, I still want to recommend the game, but only with a price discount. About the downsides: (1) Double jumping(not a skill, simple one) can happen completely unnecessarily (when you latch on and the character makes another jump on it's own again). This is simply annoying throughout the entire game, but especially in one part of the game when you need to get a chest, when it interferes as you grab the cliff and the character falls. (2) When a cutscene occurs, any spell that is moving with you is reset. The same goes for items, which disappear over time here. (3) The number of secrets is huge, and overall it's very interesting. But some hidden places... excessively hidden. You'll never know there's something here or there. (4) I wish hell on whoever came up with the Pegasus race... you can't restart it if you lose, you have to wait until he finishes the race and listen to the dialogue. And if you make the slightest mistake, guess what? ...you lose. This is the most stupid side quest I have ever seen. (5) Bugs, like in the room in the lab when you need to get the black diamond. After all this time, even critical bugs haven't been fixed. (6) The final boss has two phases, and there is no save point before him - an extremely stupid decision. This is not a side boss, not a mini-boss... it's a difficult fight in two phases, and there are lots of small enemies before him. Almost an epic fail solution. I really wanted to give it 8 or even a rating 9, as the overall impression was pleasant. Again, get it on sale, and I think you'll enjoy the game more than you'll be disappointed. However, with the story ending we're given, if the game doesn't get a sequel, that ending will also be a major drawback... I REALLY don't like open endings.

Souldiers may be too challenging for some players, but if you are not scared of demanding combat challenges or of being stuck not knowing how to progress, then this is a gem for retro, metroidvania and pixel-art fans.

The name is deceptive, as this is more skin to a traditional Metroidvania than to a souls-like. Huge, ability-gated environments. Rich pixel art. This deserves way more credit in the Metroidvania pantheon, but is unfortunately plagued by its reputation for slowdown. If you are a true believer in the genre, give this a try. Well worth the pricetag even if you play half.

When it comes to the core game, Souldiers brings all its terrific mechanics and clever level design together for a lengthy experience that gets you engaged in its gameplay and platforming rather than its story.

Souldiers is a solid game, clearly made with care and passion, but this is not always enough. This metroidvania struggles to impress the player in any of its components, whether artistic, narrative, or design. The class differences are nice, but we don't think many will want to replay the entire adventure to see how the unchosen classes change the style.

A well executed and impressively detailed mix of Metroidvania exploration, Soulslike combat, and role-playing style customisation that’s marred only by its demanding controls.

Souldiers was "this close" to join the not so closed club of the great indie metroidvania, only its absurd difficulty and its finally very flat gameplay got the better of the pleasure of the game quite quickly. It's a pity, because Retro Forge's title is full of very good ideas and, damn it, it's got a lot of good looks: apart from some dubious color choices on some shots, Souldiers can at least boast of a 2D of an almost unprecedented finesse. To make it short: it's very beautiful, but really average.

PROS -Great gameplay, fun with the capital F -enemies are tenacious, they wont leave you alove -enjoyable music but never memorable -beautiful pixel art -lot of things to do and secrets to find -it last a lot for a metroidvania -finally a metroidvania that doesnt rely its story on lore and abstract things CONS -messy and unfinished story (I guess it will continue in the sequel) -except for the first 3 areas, to easy after the patch expecialy the bosses (choose hard mode or you will have 0 challenge) -not buggy but had a single one that made me restart a completed mission, was very annoying
