Despite its very low price SOL: Exodus is a surprisingly good proof that even today a solid space combat sim might find its place on the market. [September 2012, p.63]

We don't see to many space shooters anymore these days. Unfortunately, SOL: Exodus is a bit of a disappointment. The AI isn't great and there aren't many challenging moments. It's a cheap little game though that will keep you entertained for a little while.

Those going into SOL: Exodus should be warned that it's a thoroughly average space shooter that doesn't innovate and is going to deliver a boilerplate experience.

I really wanted to like this game more but the controls for both the controller and keyboard/mouse are very hard to use. I remapped them half a dozen times to try and fix it but it just would not play nice. Graphics are ok. Plot is simple. RPG elements are next to non existent with one simple upgrade system of only three items. They might have more options later but I played a few levels and that seemed to be it. There does seem to be a bit of depth to this game but since it doesn't explain how half of the systems work, you don't know what you are doing half of the time until it is too late.

It is nice to see a modern space sim. It has been a long time, and there is a nostalgia factor here for great games like freelancer or dark star one. The combat is decent enough. The biggest downside is that the game only takes you through a series of scripted missions, with no freedom or open world to explore. I'd say the game may be worth the low price a few minutes of fun, but will not replace some of the older, more complex freeform space sims of the past.

I actually enjoyed this quite a bit. The controls are great as well and the fights are fun. The story is good as well and the religious fanatics you are fighting are quite funny at times. It also looks quite impressive for an indie title. The only real downside is that it is very short, it took me less than 3 hours on the first play through on normal and that includes mission I had to re-do because I died.

It's a superlative amount of content and refinement compared to many so-called "triple-A" productions that sell for six times that amount. Anyone looking for a good space dogfight should feel obliged to give it a try.

As an affordable, accessible leap back into the shoes of a space fighter ace, Sol: Exodus is a success.

I am a huge fan of Decent Free-space and I am also now a huge fan of Sol Exodus. Very good content, although it was short the missions had great variety. I got this in a bundle and it was entirely worth the 5 dollars i paid. More like a 20 dollar value i would say. Very fun game-play, awesome space story, totally awesome space combat. I gave this 10/10 because the average score is too low on this great story driven action space sim. Had some issues with sound effects, but otherwise flawless performance for a small time indie developer! Need more Free-space style games!!!

Has great support from the indie developers. They brought in joystick support which I applaud and they brought in a **** They plan to bring in more as they keep on patching. For the developers first game, I am impressed.

The uninspired mission design is not the only problem that Exodus is confronted with. After the short campaign you hardly find any reasons to blast into space. But not everything is bad: Controls are spot on, the upgrade system works well and the plot delivers some well executed cynicism.

Sol: Exodus may be a step in the right direction to bring back space combat games, but it certainly won't be the title that inspires a generation to demand more. Any gamer, and especially PC gamer, over 25 probably wants the genre to flourish like it used to, but a game like Sol, with all its bugs, repetitive levels and lackluster narrative, won't be what brings it back.

A decent indie effort, but the sims from ten years ago still show how it should be done. Pick up FreeSpace 2 instead. [March 2012, p.65]

It's encouraging, though, that in just the week since SOL's been out the developers at Seamless have done a great job patching issues, with three released so far. It's a damn shame there are so many issues that are likely beyond the power of mere patches, because the space shooter genre badly needs a new classic to really get it going again.

Absolutely loving it. While it doesn't necessarily evoke the feeling of any particular predecessor (such as my beloved Freespace 12), it has its own feel in the best possible way. The action is fast and frenetic, the ship is easy to control and most importantly the game is FUN. I've played with both the mouse and keyboard and with a joystick (my preference). I found both control schemes easy to use, and fun to play. My only complaint would be that the radar can be hard to understand sometimes. The developers seem to be listening and responding to community complaints though, and I believe they are planning on releasing a patch to address that. All in all, this game is a blast, especially for $10. If you're like me and have been longing for a space shooter, you'd be crazy not to check this out!

So far I think the game is pretty good, the level design is a wee bit repetitive but thankfully I've been having a lot of fun with the ship to ship combat, controls great even with a mouse. I think the story is fun and very BSG-esq though I wish it were fleshed out a little more and explained for instance why my friendly capital ship is always outmatched. There are a few bugs however, they don't break the game by any means but they are noticeable, mostly collision issues (I've found I can't actually crash my ship and enemy ships can fly into stations and ships with impunity). On the whole however I'd say that SOL: Exodus is worth the 10 bucks.

Could not play longer than 15 minutes. Arcade shooter yes, going to hold my attention, no. I think I am done supporting indie developers. No reason to pay a dime for this. Many free online arcade games rival this. The graphics were ok though.

Played for 10 minutes. YAWN. Not fun at all....feel of spaceships was bad....felt like homemade. I wanted to watch Band of Brothers but all I got was a high school level film.
SummaryBy the year 2500, Earth had become toxic and unsafe for human life. Pollution and overpopulation had ravaged the planet, forcing humanity to the stars. Colonies and settlements soon sprung up across the solar system, but man had not left its thirst for war behind. Then, they learned their sun was dying, and everything changed. Only when ...
