It’s rare and quite refreshing to come by a game that is so unique in every aspect, with such complex characters and such a great story, that I feel the same sense of satisfaction that comes with reading a good novel when I play it.

this game, being one of my initial dips into megaten, was really enjoyable! i liked building my team up how i wanted to with the many skills/mantras available, watching the inner struggles the embryon had to go through, and the press turn system that encourages hitting weakpoints for more turns while using shield skills to deny enemies of their own turns. i'd recommend this to anyone looking to get into megaten themselves.

An interesting RPG with some rather unique characters. Although this game more than likely won't be winning any awards for best game of the year, it is still a nice pick-up for anyone who was a fan of Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne or any RPG player.

Its interesting story and deep, yet easy to learn mechanics make it an enjoyable, and yes, lengthy experience. It's not for casual gamers.

A solid addition to the series, and provides plenty of action, interaction, evolution, and entertainment. Game splitting annoyances apart, it's an impressive journey from its start (almost) to its finish.

A commendably original RPG which throws up plenty of surprises and improves substantially on previous outing, "Lucifer's Call." [June 2006, p.93]

In the long wait for Digital Devil Saga we’ve been spoiled by some bar-raising and envelope-pushing efforts in the RPG genre, which make it seem rather tired and staid. [July 2006, p.136]

As and RPG fan, this impressed me. Though the PS2 era was considered the golden era of RPGs, Digital Devil Saga showed to us a much darker and complex theme. The story and battle system makes this game a total blast and addictive, despite the high encounter rate, the exp gained in battle sets up for a fun time. Really recommend it.

For almost 20 years, this game was my absolute favorite game of all time. I originally played it in 2007, and I kept it at my number 1 until Expedition 33 came out.

Wanted to enjoy this more, but the duology aspect I think actually hurts the title. A bit too much slog to pad out the title to justify a true part1/part2 versus others that have done it correct. (Story pacing wise, this is no Trails **** it does offer lots of grinding and lots of unlockables. I appreciate that in my JRPGs. Perfect for second screen gaming, with narrative breaks at start and end of dungeons and plenty of exploring and fighting in between.Looking forward to playing DDS2, just might be after a break.
