Rust goes where no other survival game has and provides an incredibly threatening experience that, like a car accident, is equal parts horrifying and mystifying.

Rust is a malicious experience rife with betrayal, cruelty and greed. That can make it both frustrating and sublime in equal doses.

For those who are willing to put the time in and stick with it, Rust provides both a social sandbox and a deep, functioning crafting system. At times, it feels like anything is possible in Rust; like witnessing players double-crossing one another or stumbling upon a small sheet metal city in the desert.

Rust is still as addictive as it was. Maybe, because of its early success, we expected more from it, and in that case it can be disappointed. It still needs to be polished and improved, but at its core, Rust is a great crafting and survival game.

At the center of Rust lurks something fascinating, with the Wild-West sense of lawlessness and the exploration of trust and betrayal that emerges when trying to survive. Yet Rust’s habit of tripping over its own feet makes it difficult to get to those fascinating stories. As the survival genre continues to mutate and create compelling experiences generate exciting player-driven stories regularly with little frustration, even Rust’s most compelling feature feels sadly archaic.

Its lack of survival depth and inclination to only reward time served instead of clever play saps whatever life it might have had to give.

This game would be an absolute 10/10 if it were actually playable by the average human being. when i was unemployed and smoking weed everyday i swore by this game, and i had some of my best moments in gaming ever. the game is nervewracking, it feels rewarding, the gameplay loop is profoundly addictive and the combat feels like a pure skill showdown between players. the bad (imo) part is, you need to play this game for 5 **** hours per day at LEAST if you want to have the slightest chance of having fun, and even then it is made 3x harder if you are playing solo. i would love to come home from a long day at work and play rust, especially with the recent updates that look really sick (deep sea ugh). sadly i'm just unable to spend half of my life playing a video game, and i'm sure many people would relate with that. rust is the absolute best video game i refuse to play

A cactus killed me! It had been a loooong time since I wanted to play Rust. I had tried once before, but my computer at the time couldn’t handle it. And now, finally, I can say I’ve died in almost every obvious way the game allows. Including to a cactus. It’s an MMO, a mix of survival and crafting, where the first real challenge is finding a server that isn’t ultra-toxic and violent — otherwise noobs like me wouldn’t stand a chance. Luckily, there are some created specifically so beginners can have fun. Even so, it’s not easy. Rust isn’t as intuitive as some equivalents, but I think that’s part of the fun. The second challenge is not getting so addicted that you drop everything else.Thankfully, my previous experience with Day-Z already taught me to be more responsible and to learn how to let go. And speaking of that game, something that could be improved here is the story (practically nonexistent) and the bots. Of course, that would imply a higher difficulty, but it’s clear that zombies have more personality. On the other hand, there are villages that offer trading and missions, even if nothing is particularly thrilling. In the end, the real reason I’m pausing my experience is that I still have many games on my list, and Rust wouldn’t let me make progress on any of them. But I’m sure that at some point I’ll return to it. It’s not the masterpiece of the genre, but if you like the style, wait for a sale and go for it — you probably won’t regret it. I recommend it!

I played this game when it launched (legacy edition). Now with the experimental edition, the best thing you had in legacy was a bolt, and now the least you have is a helicopter. What the heck?
