It's the first time I'm reviwing a game on metacritic but this time I had to. REPLACED is one of the best experiences I had in games in recent years. Artistically, it's just breathtaking, with almost every scene of the game deserving a screenshot. The direction is equally impressive, making wise use of the 2.5D nature of the game. The soundtrack is amazing. Gameplay wise, the game is visceral and combat is always fun, even though it can get a bit repetitive and clucky at times. All together, I highly recommend this game, one of the best titels i've played in years. If you love 80s cyberpunk vibes, this game is a no miss.

What a great game. Incredible atmosphere and setting, very well-crafted pixel art style, excellent animations; all of that wrapped in a solid and pretty moder-day storyline.

My rating is 9/10. Replaced is incredibly beautiful and atmospheric; every single frame looks like a dark piece of art come to life. The Batman-style combat system was a great surprise — the fights feel dynamic, smooth, and punchy. Special thanks to the developers for the killer soundtrack that fits the vibe perfectly, and for tons of great pop-culture references. It's an almost perfect game that you simply cannot pass by.

Basically unplayable. Pressing jump doesn't make you jump. It starts the jump animation but the actual jump doesn't happen until almost a full second later. They decided to make the game cinematic instead of responsive, which, in an action platformer, is a terrible decision.

This is a good game, which makes it all the more infuriating that it could have been with some tweaks. First things first, this game probably has one of the best visuals out there; every single second of it is **** gorgeous. But everything else just leaves something to be desired... The combat is quite shallow, the puzzles are rather simple, and the story just scratches meaningful ideas instead of delving into them

Love this game. Super-atmospheric / aesthetic / immersive. Great cyberpunk vibe, and also cool story / setting. Awesome music! Just completed it today (after 23.4h). Love it. Highly recommended. Definitely crafted with love, and made me feel like a kid again. Thank you, Sad Cat Studios, and please keep it coming!! Great work!!

A game that should definitely be my jam, but just doesn’t quite pull me in all the way. I was looking forward to this one for a little while as the game just looked fantastic from the first preview. The look of the game is definitely its strongest suit. The combat is also pretty fun, even if it’s just 2D Arkham combat. It still gets the job done. There are some good animations and combat executions. There are some good story scenes and the game is very cinematic at times. So why is this game a 7 out of a 10?Well for one, it just doesn’t feel great to play. There is a bit of input lag on the movement and I wish it was just a bit tighter. The platforming puzzles are also a bit boring, nothing too interesting here. The story is also quite boring through most of the game. It picks up in the last 3rd of the game, even if I did want a little bit more out of the ending. There are also some bad platforming and checkpoint issues. Some visibility issues that make some background/foreground stuff hard to see so it’s awkward to see what you might do at times and just have to rely on a bit of trial and error. Overall this game was just ok, I think the shortcomings in the gameplay department would be fixed if the story was stronger. It is just kind of boring, that’s its biggest problem. There are long sections that are just super boring. It’s also a bit long for a game of this type, as it is a little over 10 hours. If they tightened up the story and gameplay, made it about 4-5 hours, this would be a really killer game, instead it is kind of just a slog with some cool stuff thrown in every so often.

I really enjoyed this. If you are someone that enjoys story driven games with some good gameplay this is defiantly a pickup especially for the price of $20. A good game to played between 2 longer games. The reason I don't rate it higher is because the game is slow at the start. It is almost a walking sim at the start of the game but near the end you get powers and things that just make it so much fun! The fighting can get repetitive and the bosses patterns are quick to figure out. That maybe because I played on easy. I do that because I don't have as much time to game as I used to so I want to not die a bunch of times. The controls are sometimes hard to time jumps but not terrible. The story really hits hard with the AI things we have going on today as well.

This game looks absolutely amazing and this story is ****. Unfortunately, that's it. The gameplay is incredibly bland, boring and frustrating. The climbing mechanics and responsiveness of every action feels like trudging through mud. It's just deeply unsatisfying all together. I have a harsh take because this game was hyped up for years and made out to be something it just absolutely wasn't. I got about 2/3 through and uninstalled because I just wasn't having fun doing literally anything in the game. It **** and it **** to ****. Sorry, not sorry.

One of the best game I played this year. I can't get into a lot of games anymore as a 47 year old working man, as too many of them require too much time investment, but this game gripped me with its cyberpunk style, design, combat system and atmosphere on the same level as some AAA games do, while allowing for shorter bursts of gameplay, as there as plenty of autosave points. As someone who grew up on 8 bit and 16 bit platformers, the pixelated side scrolling action provided a nostalgic experience while implementing modern combat mechanics like parry and dodge-roll to provide a fresh take on the nostagic 2D scroller.

Replaced, Playtime: 11.8 Hours A nostalgic, Blade Runneresque sci-fi adventure that feels like a breath of fresh air, even when its retro art style and sluggish combat occasionally get in the way. Playing on PC via Game Pass Ultimate, the game ran perfectly with absolutely no performance issues or glitches to note. Mechanically, the game is part platformer, part puzzle-solver, and part brawler, with boss fights and chase sequences sprinkled throughout. However, playing on hard difficulty highlights some frustrating issues. There is a significant delay with inputs at times, and you cannot try to dodge or parry if you have already initiated an attack animation. Because of how the combat and animations are handled, it can feel a bit sluggish and dated—though they may have actually been going for the retro vibe here. The art style is a retro SNES pixel platformer aesthetic that delivers a great mood. It pairs well with a story that is interesting and philosophical enough, giving off strong sci-fi, Blade Runner energy. However, that same nostalgic art style sometimes acts as a deterrence. The weird 2D/3D perspective unintentionally blocks ledges and enemy troopers from view. Furthermore, visual cues are inconsistent; it often isn't clear enough whether you can use your pickaxe to hold onto a wall, adding unnecessary frustration to the platforming. Despite these little inconsistencies with the visual cues and the dated combat, Replaced is a breath of fresh air. It feels incredibly nostalgic and is ultimately a good time.

Beautiful artstyle, good music, acceptable gameplay. All in favor of a story that everyone seems to adore but I feel is just inctedibly kitsch and clumsy. It feels like an attempt at writing a nuanced dystopian script by someone with emotional and cognitive capacity stuck at Disney animated movies. It is a surprisingly weird and off-putting mixture. Imagine something like 1995's Pocahontas but with gore and swearing. There's serious themes and excess brutality in a world populated by cartoonishly flat, one-note, childishly black and white characters behaving like family-friendly muppets or evil, brutish villains chasing a lost cat through downtown NYC. Why? To harvest the puppies for fur, of cour-Oh, sorry, got two movies confused there for a second. If this title gets rave reviews for the story then this doesn't bode well for the medium.

Audiovisually is one of the best things I've ever witnessed. Now imagine how dull, unimaginative and repetitive is the gameplay. Platforming feels bad and design is most of the time annoying. Combat could have been so cool, but ends up being messy due to the fact they put 4 overlapping enemies in 3 inches of space. Then the story is meh, full of cliches, most fo the time towards the end I found myself skipping cutsecenes.

Nota: 8/10. Compra inmediata para los amantes del cyberpunk.

Pros : - The Art / Fusion of 3D and Pixel Art is perfectly done / you can take time to observe it almost always during the game - Story is well written, deep and memorable, the concept of A.I into a human body works great into this **** gives us thoughts about our own modern era for the best and the worst... - Music is nice ( specially during combat and poursuit and boss ) and perfectly synchonised with the context - Animation works correctly for the 2D/3D concept - Sounds effects are very precise // Cons : - Plateform mechanics lacks precision and distance are mis-calculate for the level **** you miss some jump and fall for exemple you have to restart often the whole zone (frustrating) - Auto-save is not always script at the best moments, specially during "big plateform zone" - Combat is nice but too simple ( lack of animations and precisions ), enemies are all on the same line (can be visually confusing ) // Really good indie game in general

The gameplay is basically pressing 'D' to move right across the maps and left-clicking the mouse to strike and defeat enemies. While the synopsis is interesting—you are an AI in a human body trying to reconnect to the mainframe—the execution feels lacking. You meet people who teach you about feelings, which sounds great on paper, but in-game it feels too simple. The game is too expensive and doesn't provide a good enough experience to justify the price.

A história acompanha bem.

Bloody hell, what a blast ! I don't remember playing such an amazing cinematic platformer since Flashback in 1992. Obviously, the game is absolutely gor-geous, but that's only the tip of the iceberg : the story is good, the combats are dynamic and the atmosphere is amazing. They found a way to conjure the feeling we had 30 years ago, with modern day technology. I can't even imagine how the reviews could be so love... An absolute must play !

Final sensacional, arte nota 10! Que jogo!

Well, it was certainly one of the games of all time. Art is very interesting, but plot is one big deus ex machina where things happen because they happen and writing is quite bad in general, I had hard time to get immersed. At first I thought plot is some kind of parody of 80s action movies (because some lab rat nerd becomes Bruce Lee x Terminator x Spider Man only because AI took a free ride in his head), but it's actually not. And if we take it seriously, then it's not too good plot-wise. Many things in plot are so far-fetched that I would laugh if it was actually a parody. It's certainly a game worth playing, but it certainly won't change your life and won't stay in your head for long.

Actually it's 6,5. The game is good for the price, definitely worth one run. Good story, characters and combat and animations. The problem is that the pace is too slow: 75% of the time you're just walking around or doing slow platforming, and there's no sprint button, so I would never replay the game (which is something I do many times with games I like a lot). The other 25% you're either fighting or doing puzzles, and combat is one the best ever in the 2D scene, if not the best. Unfortunately... there's no new game plus, no chapter selection and hard difficulty is not well tuned (overall the game felt easy but with one super hard early game spike). So, a solid game but with margins for improvements

I'm sorry but this game is pretty bad tbh. Repetitive, uninteresting, gameplay loop is pretty much braindead. I gave up when I got stuck on a minigame. If you're into old arcades then maybe this is for you.

Very stylish, but very repetitive. It's like 95% of the budget went to the art department. The game features some really pretty lighting and environments, however the gameplay feels like the same for most of the experience. The combat is simple and smooth, but really starts to show its cracks when timing actually starts mattering. The animation lock is a pain, and simply doesn't help with samey combat sections. Every fight feels identical. What doesn't help is the incredibly generic cyberpunk story with awful writing and terrible pacing. So much of the game is spent on long winded cutscenes, that feel like something written by someone who is very enthusiastic about writing, but hasn't written anything yet. All in all, perhaps the bar the game set for itself was too high. Or our expectations were.

A stunning cyberpunk pixel art experience that could’ve been tighter I went into REPLACED with high expectations after seeing the trailers, and I’m happy to say I really enjoyed my playthrough. That said, by the final chapters it started feeling a bit long in the tooth. The game is mostly linear with some light exploration in the main hub area between missions and optional bits that make going for 100% completion pretty straightforward, even for casual players who aren’t hardcore completionists.Combat has real weight and satisfying “crunch” to the hits. The stagger/counter mechanics feel great once you get the rhythm down, but the issue is pacing: many of the deeper tools and abilities only unlock toward the end of the game. That left me with limited time to fully master and enjoy them. Enemy variety is also on the low side (I’d say around 5 core types), so the combat loop stays pretty simple and encounters started feeling repetitive and stale toward the later stages. The boss fights were highlights though... they looked and felt cool. The downside is that most bosses basically reuse the same attack patterns as regular enemies, just with tighter timing for dodges and counters. The story is genuinely strong and thought-provoking. Playing as an AI suddenly trapped in a decaying human body raises some really timely questions about identity, control, and the rapid rise of AI in our own world. It gave me plenty to chew on after finishing. My one noticeable frustration came with the dialogue and story sections. There’s no way to skip or fast-forward through main conversations. Everything is timed, so you often end up just sitting there waiting for the next line to appear. It did feel intentional, probably because of the animations tied to some sentences and deliberate pauses for dramatic impact....... but with no voice acting, it got frustrating at times, especially if you’re a fast reader. I found myself with my thumb hovering uselessly over the controller more often than I’d like. Movement and platforming are decent overall. Some jumps and reactions feel a little floaty or imprecise, but honestly, that almost works thematically. You’re controlling an AI learning to pilot a human suit, so some clumsiness and complications feel intentional (or at least I’m giving the devs the benefit of the doubt there). All in all, I really enjoyed REPLACED. The visuals are breathtaking (that 2.5D pixel art with lighting and atmosphere is next-level for an indie), the cyberpunk vibe is on point, and the narrative sticks with you. My main wishes are that it could’ve been a bit shorter, the combat mechanics introduced and expanded earlier, and that dialogue sections allowed skipping or faster pacing for repeat reads. If you’re into stylish action-platformers with a strong story and incredible presentation, this one is worth your time. Just go in knowing it’s a focused 10-12 hour experience that shines brightest in its world and themes rather than endless mechanical depth.
