It took me only fifteen hours to get into the third act of the game’s main quest, less than the some 20-25 hours to play through all the DLC. While these new quests fail because they’re so battle-heavy, the stories in Beasts and The Forgotten Sanctum are still complex and engrossing.

Fans who are starving for more Pillars of Eternity II will not be disappointed, either by the gameplay or by this mini story’s dive into some of the universe’s more interesting lore. On the other hand, if you have sunk 150 hours into the series through two full games and two previous DLCs, then you may be tiring of its formula, its routine, and its combat. It probably feels even more tiresome if you love the series for its open ended exploration, since the mostly linear DLC offers very little of this. How much you will enjoy Beast of Winter ultimately depends upon how important each of these elements are to you.

Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire's first DLC is mainly focused on dungeon crawling, rather than the things that made the core game so awesome, and yet Beast of Winter is far from a boring addition, especially for those who see themselves as scholars of Eora's lore.

A lot of fun lore and interesting maps to explore. The bosses were also really fun. Not the best DLC out of the 3, but not the worst either.

I highly recommend this DLC alongside the main story of PoE2* for the following reasons... a) the STORY and LORE intelligently and profoundly integrate with PoE1 and PoE2. It does not only give a new perspective on the followers of the god Rymrgand, it gives deeper insights on what happened in PoE1, PoE2 and what Eothas is doing... b) the combat offers some challenge, well for my characters using medium armor or less (I played level 20, veteran, Critical Path upscale). c) the animations and visuals are rather beautiful. COMPANIONS : I used Vatnir (priest of Rymrgand) and Ydwin (animancy researcher) as they both have special reactions in this adventure. * IMPORTANT : you should play this side adventure *before* doing the last chapter of the main quest. In fact, if you end the main quest, all other quests are locked out (requires you use a save to do them). So do this DLC before ending the game: the DLC story fits really nicely anyhow. TIME : it took me about 15 hours, though some claim to have done it in 6.

Good DLC for Deadfire. It adds a new island with a couple of side-quests and a pretty extensive main questline, along with new loot and enemies. This isn't a full-fledged expansion, so it doesn't add any new companions or increase the level cap but it's a good 5-10 hours of content (depending on your difficulty setting). It also expands the lore and gives you more insight into important historical figures. Overall, Beast of Winter is a well-designed and well-written addition that should appeal to anyone looking for more Deadfire.

Amazing DLC for 2018's Game Of The Year. Pillars 2 improved in every aspect from the first game and now this wonderful, well made expansion is amazing to. Not only is there a great paid expansion today for PIllars 2 but we also get a free DLC and a HUGE update to the base game. Well done Obsidian, keep up the great work!

Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire “Beast of Winter” gives fans more of a good thing, and presents a handful of interesting ideas and story beats. That said, anybody expecting this Pillars of Eternity II expansion to be anywhere near as vast, vibrant, and varied as the core game are likely to be left cold.

Beast of Winter has a lot of beautiful locations alongisde great artwork, and expands on interesting lore threads that had previously been relegated to text dumps and exposition, as well as a couple interesting boss encounters -- It's a solid afternoon's worth of more Deadfire, but it feels piecemeal and diversionary.

Beast Of Winter is a fantastic slice of everything that Pillars of Eternity does well. The world building and the writing are so good it can make you interested, even if you have fallen out of love with it before.

You, Watcher, have received a missive from the isle's residents: worshipers of Rymrgand, the god of entropy and disaster. They call you Duskspeaker, a harbinger of the end, and pray you fulfill your destiny. In this ... Read More
