Overall, Mordheim: City of the Damned is compelling for strategy fanatics who enjoy a challenge, but doesn't offer much else to other players. Even with the setting of Warhammer behind it, limiting things to a single city with a handful of factions can make things feel small and repetitive. The gameplay is fairly deep, but the steep learning curve will potentially turn off a lot of players.

Just like the tabletop original Mordheim is very difficult. It needs 12 tutorials to introduce you to its complex tactical and strategic layers. [02/2016, p.65]

Based on a classic, but bringing new features and perspectives to the table, Mordheim: City of the Damned provides a challenge, with some interesting party and game management thrown in.

I'm a fan of Warhammer and the tabletop version of Mordheim. Unfortunately this game is terrible. To start with there is no real strategy or tactics. The way to win is to outnumber an enemy in close combat and beat them to death, and also hope they fail an all alone test. Often the AI will fail it's path finding and get stuck. The AI does little but run directly at the enemy and then fights with no regard for it's own safety, even when other members of its warband are slaughtered next to it, it just keeps on fighting. Experienced players avoid missions where the warband starts scattered, this shows that these missions are deeply flawed. The environments and characters look like they were made for mobile (where are the specular highlights? No normal maps? Why dor all the materials all look dull and flat?). The UI/UX is probably the worst I've seen in a game, navigating menus is a chore, and there is so much text, circles and other UI on the screen it just ruins the look of the game. Even the game design is poor. For instance, the game requires you to have two leaders. You need a leader that isn't recovering from injury to play a mission. Why can't a hero take charge? Unlike the tabletop game you can't voluntarily bottle when you've lost 25% of your warband. This means when you are losing you will lose badly and a lot of your warband will be injured. And I don't think I faced the same warband twice. When playing the tabletop game a big part is seeing the other warbands get wounded and gain experience and then meeting them again later. Some of these wounds might be ones you inflicted! But there's none of that in this game. It is also extremely slow paced. It's probably one of the worst, if not the worst TBS game I have played. Just avoid it.

It's a good game, it truly represents the spirit of the tabletop Mordheim. But is extremely hard and cruel with the player, with slow pace and plain mechanics.

One of the best games in 2015, been playing it for 75 hours now and cant stop myself spending more hours everyday. Missions are quite hard and main storyline needs some expanding however the focus is on character creation and improvement so you dont need a story to do so.

Mordheim: City of the Damned is a rewarding game for the right player, specially after a few rounds of skirmish matches when you understand the mechanics.

Mordheim: City of the Damned is a turn-based tactical game with very deep battle and team management mechanics. Although it's much more difficult than average, its tutorial is explanatory enough even for the inexperienced player. Some imbalance issues prevent it from being a really great game.

Mordheim is a lot of fun once you get past the difficulty and intimidating systems it throws at you.

Mordheim: City of the Damned is a turn-based game raised slightly above average thanks to a gripping environment of the abandoned city and unique stories your group can experience there.

Mordheim: City of the Damned had the potential to be an interesting and challenging game. The progression system is deep and filled with interesting choices and options, and the Warhammer Fantasy Universe provides sturdy groundwork to create your own tale on top of. But the gameplay is monotonous, the technical issues are annoying and the game is among the most frustrating I’ve played in some time.

Excellent game. Like others have said, the load times are long, but only happen at the beginning of a mission, so it's not like you're loading every ten minutes. Just grab a drink from the fridge or take a bathroom break and you're good. Very detailed and engrossing gameplay and character management. Forced hardcore mode isn't for everyone, but the game wouldn't have the same sense of engagement and urgency if it was easy to just save-load scum. It forces the player into careful strategizing instead of a shotgun approach. Being able to lose is what makes winning so gratifying. Good art and animation. Good level design with palpable verticality. Really cool system of engagement. A bit of a learning curve, but well worth it.

I love Warhammer Universe, I love strategy games, I love tactical games, I love RPG games, I hate this game. P.S. Steam or Gamesworkshop had to hire an army of trolls to write positive reviews. Pros: Setting, Varied Itemization, customization and progression. Cons: Console Design, Console Design, Console Design, game is a turn based MOBA, slow paced, awkward camera controls and game turn progression, game is fairly easy, AI is slow and silly.

Mordheim: City of the Damned
SummarySet in the Warhammer world's decimated Empire city, Mordheim: City of the Damned is a turn-based tactical game where you lead warbands into bloody and lethal skirmishes. The game blends RPG elements, fast-paced tactical combat and intricate unit customization in a time wrought by chaos and rivalry where only the strongest survive.
