Graphics looks great and atmospheric is spot on. Gameplay actually pretty much still the same old metroid but first person view surely changes the experience. But sadly, the game truly design as if it still 2d metroid. Platforming as first person view is horrible, and of course the main problem of first person view, motion sickness. Although most of the time im not that sick but some nausea from time to time surely exist. Exploration for upgrade still so enjoyable and rewarding. But some bosses could be quite cheap cos the scan refuse to give you real hint, instead it give you vague hints. For me myself there are two frustating bosses and i dont appreciate the trickiness there.

Finally had the chance to play this. A masterpiece from start to finish. Metroid Prime is the best game from Nintendo that isn’t a Mario or a Zelda title.

Despite not reaching the highs that the main series reaches in its best games (Dread and Super), Metroid Prime is still a very enjoyable game, that shows that the metroidvania genre can work just as well in 3D as it does in 2D.

Plays like garbage, the map is terrible, and generally just a disgrace to the Metroid series. The lore dumps by visor scanning might be one of the earliest examples of this terrible idea that I've played. I can't say I'm surprised when Retro Studios is just the same devs that made C-tier Turok on the N64. So, they went and made D-tier Metroid on the GCN.

One of the best games of all time, but not the best metroid game. It was perfect for the 2000's era. Excellent graphics, excellent hero, excellent soundtracks.

23 years later, this game easily stands out as my favorite game of all time. The atmosphere and feeling of isolation are incredible. I have been trying to find something as immersive as this game my entire life and I have still been chasing it. There’s a lot I could say, but there’s nothing like this game and there will never be anything like it again. It’s a must play at least once in your lifetime.

I played this game for the first time in 2025, so wasn't wearing any nostalgia goggles. It's actually the first Metroid game I ever played. I've seen a lot of gameplay of the older ones though. With the gameplay I've seen and known of the older ones this is basically the most faithful and care taken adaptation of taking one style of game to a different style of game. The people who made it really care about being faithful to the originals and you can tell. The music is some of the best music I've ever heard in any game. There is a little backtracking. More for some people than others seeing as how the back tracking is to grab artifacts you may have missed while initially exploring certain areas, so if you manage to notice or find a lot of artifacts there isn't too much forced backtracking. Plus considering it literally staplepointed a genre called "metroidvania" and the definition of that genre is a semi open platforming game that requires backtracking to previously explored areas with no equipment and upgrades so anyone complaining about that is just foolish. This is one of the very very few extremely perfect games. Controlling first person with dated controls is the only downfall of this game, but considering the evolution of first person games and nintendo games at the time and the fact that autolocking is a feature you can use and abuse it's not so bad and the semi-clunky combat is more than made up for in every other aspect of the game.

honestly I would rate the game a 7/10. I just finished the game and it felt like a chore. waaay too much unnecessary backtracking and they don't even give u pins for the map so you have to rely completely on memory or just wander around trying to remember where you saw that area that you couldn't access before and then you have to come back to the same area at least 5 times, and the more new areas u discover the more backtracking u have to do now. the enemies also weren't that interesting. It was a good game overall but the backtracking killed it for me.

Metroid Prime is nothing short of a masterpiece in the realm of action-adventure games. From its stunningly atmospheric world design to its innovative first-person perspective, the game brilliantly captures the essence of the Metroid series while bringing it to life in three dimensions. The richly detailed environments of Tallon IV are a joy to explore, each area teeming with secrets, puzzles, and formidable enemies that challenge players to think strategically. The gameplay seamlessly blends exploration, combat, and platforming, maintaining a perfect balance that keeps players engaged throughout. The scanning mechanic adds a layer of depth, encouraging players to uncover the lore and backstory of the world, making the experience both immersive and rewarding. The soundtrack is equally exceptional, setting the tone with haunting melodies and intense battle themes that enhance the game’s atmosphere. Additionally, the controls are intuitive and responsive, ensuring smooth navigation and precise combat. Overall, Metroid Prime is a timeless classic that not only redefined the Metroid franchise but also set a new standard for first-person adventure games. It’s a must-play for any fan of the genre and a shining example of how to successfully transition a beloved 2D series into a captivating 3D experience.

An amazing FPS game, great story and boss fights, it can feel a bit janky sometimes but for a game of that age, you can’t complain. The remaster basically fixes all of that also.

It's a shame that Samus is stuck in this mediocre franchise as I feel she has a lot more potential being the first female videogame protagonist and all. Not much to say about this game with its meh combat and controls. Graphics are cool and the music is too but that's about it. Super Metroid is much better.

Terrible. What's bad about it: 1. The controls. My god the controls. 2. The combat. Press L to auto-aim. Fire. Becomes monotonous quick. 3. The enemies. Bullet sponges. They respawn immediately once you leave the room. They are way more annoying than they are a threat, besides some notable cases that I'll talk about. 4. The navigation. The game has a hint system which lets you know what room to go next. Isn't the point of Metroid to explore ? This system completely contradicts the entire core design of the game. But when playing it it becomes painfully obvious why they implemented such a system. The map is huge, or at least it feels like it and not in a good way. Getting from one end to another takes forever. If the game didn't tell you where to go and you were stuck scanning the map for any and all dead ends it would easily take 100 hours to complete this game. The current 20 hour average run time to beat it is already heavily padded. The map also does not tell you if a room needs a certain suit, the grapple beam or power bomb to progress or find something. Imagine playing without hints (which is an in-game option) ? Scanning the map for a dead end then taking 20min to get there only to be remembered that "oh that's right, I need to grapple beam here...". This ends not being a huge problem because the game holds you hand the entire way. Some rooms are way too dark and it's not at all clear where you're supposed to go like the cargo freight lift to deck gamma because of how murky and foggy everything looks, the platform that you need to get to just looks like floating debris and is very off kilter. After 15min I had to watch a video walkthrough to get through it. 5. The difficulty. In the beginning it's fine. Still annoying how some enemies take more than 1 hit like the poison mushrooms. But once you start the trek of getting the thermal visor the game starts spamming chozo enemies. They are hard and sponges. This trek for the thermal visor up until you get to Thardus is a slog including himself. Then you get to the phazon mines. Holy bananas. Did they really expect you to get from the main quarry all the way down to the central dynamo without an energy tank or save AND fight a boss ? There's special chozo enemies every single room and they don't drop a single thing of health. I was using save states and still had to retry 20 times just to get to the boss with 1 energy tank. 6. The end game. You need 12 artifacts to get to the end. These are uninspired, bland and lazy pick ups scattered around the map that serve no purpose but to pad out the game. It's like little Easter eggs. This shouldn't be required to beat the game. This is something you do for a 100% completion run, not the normal gameplay. I got a few of them and gave up. Can't be bothered slogging through this mess. It's not like you're missing out and anything good anyway.

I don't get it??? I can only assume that the people who rate this game so hightly are only playing the first half, or just mulling around... and if that makes them happy then more power to them. The issues for me is that the game DRAGS on, and isn't all the willing to let the player know what they should be doing. It tends to want the gamer to ffigure things out, which I'm all in favour of in most games (well thats not true, I like the know what the F I am ment to be doing tbh) but when the world is so vast and challenging to travesre then I find the gaming experiance to be more frustrating and not fun and challenging. Each room has its designated respawning enemies who are more of an annoyance, put there to slow the player down and bother them, apposed to being an actual threat... yes I had fun with combat for the first half of the game, but when you are sent on fetch quest and artifact finding missions, the novelty of the combat wears off and the more I played the more I notice the "bullet sponginess" of the enemies, I mean even poison mushrooms took more the one shot the put down. I gave up playing this game at the last boss called Metroid Prime as it was far to choir-some for me, I mean I thought the basic enemies took the piss to kill but the last boss was too much and I realised I was only playing for the sake of seeing the credits that I would have skipped anyway. Fan base is very loyal but also very small, most people have given this game a miss or dropped out of playing not long in. It has GREAT graphics, even for 2025 and I love the controls and how the game handles, no other FPS plays like this. It uses only on analog, and then uses the trigger buttons for X/Y camera movement... it may sound like it don't work but it dose, very well, so well that the platforming is maybe the best part of the gameplay. Worth a look for sure, I've given it a 4 but could be a 7 on a better day.

I do think that this game is good and I have friends that would say its the best. The only reason I rate it so low is because of my own preferences. I find this game quite boring and haven't even been able to bring myself to finish the first dungeon. If it wasn't a Metroid game and didn't have such remarkable reviews I would have definitely rated it lower.

Metroid Prime – A Frustrating Dive into a Tedious LabyrinthMetroid Prime may have a strong reputation, but I found it to be an overhyped and, at times, painfully frustrating experience. For a game hailed as a “masterpiece,” it struggles with some glaring flaws that make it far from enjoyable.First, the pacing is incredibly slow. The backtracking is relentless—after making some progress, you’re often forced to revisit old areas, which feels more like padding than meaningful exploration. It breaks the flow of the game, making it feel tedious rather than immersive. The constant need to retrace your steps, scanning objects, unlocking doors, and navigating the same repetitive environments becomes an exhausting chore.Speaking of scanning, the scanning system is another letdown. While it’s meant to add depth to the world, having to scan nearly everything disrupts the gameplay flow. It feels like a lazy storytelling method, where instead of the world naturally unfolding, you’re bombarded with walls of text that are easy to ignore.Combat, too, is a disappointment. While the lock-on mechanic helps with aiming in a 3D space, it oversimplifies encounters, making fights feel repetitive and lacking any real challenge. Boss battles, which should be a highlight, are often prolonged and require more patience than strategy, dragging the game down even **** controls feel outdated, especially compared to more recent first-person titles. The clunky movement and awkward platforming make navigating the 3D environments frustrating. It lacks the smoothness and precision of modern games, which can be a dealbreaker for those used to more refined controls.Visually, while the art direction is commendable, the environments quickly become monotonous. There’s only so much alien landscape one can take before it all starts blending together. The minimalist soundtrack, while atmospheric at first, does little to alleviate the game’s repetitive **** conclusion, Metroid Prime may appeal to hardcore fans of the series, but for newcomers or those looking for a more modern, fast-paced experience, it falls short. The slow pacing, repetitive design, and frustrating controls make it a game that’s hard to recommend without significant caveats.

A masterpiece. This game will not hold your hand. Treats the player with intelligence. Some of the best worldbuilding and storytelling in a game. The atmosphere is incredible. And playing Samus in first person is incredible. The gameplay is smooth and handles well. Each region is well crafted. And finally, the music is on another level.

Boring as hell. Lots of backtracking, repetitive as hell, destroy the enemies, return to the same room later and just do it again and again. It’s boring. Some of the boss fights are slug fests also. Dull.
