As a long time fan of Pokemon, and the monster taming genre as a whole, this is the best in its genre from the past 10 years.
The battle system is familiar, but different enough from Pokemon to distinguish itself and offer something new to veteran players
The game looks gorgeous from start to finish (2D HD really does suit the monster tamer genre)
The monster designs themselves are all incredible and the whole past and future form thing that scarlet and violet attempted is done waaaaay better in this game. And finally, the story is far more fulfilling than any modern Pokemon game, in part because the choices you make actually impact future gameplay. For example (minor spoilers) you are presented with the option of saving someone in the prologue and if u don’t they die

Even though I'm not usually a fan of monster collector games, Lumentale left a really good impression on me. I was initially drawn in by its art style, but the game's personality goes far beyond that. The environments, character designs, music, and creature designs are all very enjoyable and full of personality. I also enjoyed the protagonist quite a bit. His dialogue is often clever and sarcastic, and the character portraits add a lot of charm to the conversations .The gameplay is engaging and easy to get into, with fun capture mechanics and enough strategic depth to make experimenting feel rewarding. The opening is a little slow while introducing the core mechanics, but once the world opens up, exploration becomes a real joy. There are some bugs here and there, along with a few quality-of-life features I'd still like to see, but the foundation is very solid. With continued updates and polish, I think Lumentale has the potential to become a very strong entry in the genre.

Lumentale is exactly the kind of monster collector I had been dreaming about for years. Ever since Pokémon Black & White, I’ve been waiting for a game capable of capturing those same unforgettable vibes: a strong identity, immersive atmosphere, memorable creatures, beautiful environments, and a soundtrack that truly stays with you. Lumentale absolutely delivers on all of that. What impressed me the most is the insane attention to mood and worldbuilding. Every area feels carefully crafted, every creature has personality, and the music perfectly complements the adventure, creating that magical feeling that only the best monster collectors can achieve. I did encounter a few bugs during my playthrough, but honestly, none of them were serious enough to ruin the experience. The game remains incredibly fun, engaging, and entertaining from start to finish. You can really feel the passion behind. If you’re someone who misses the emotional charm and atmosphere of the classic Pokémon era, especially Black & White, Lumentale is absolutely worth playing.

Everything I want from a Monster Collector. Beautiful storyline, amazing monsters and well developed characters. I couldn’t ask for more. It reminds me the old golden period of Nintendo Games.
