Layton's Mystery Journey: Katrielle and The Millionaires' Conspiracy - Deluxe Edition

With better aesthetics, all DLC included, and new puzzles, this 3DS port has a lot going for it. LAYTON’S MYSTERY JOURNEY: Katrielle and the Millionaires’ Conspiracy – Deluxe Edition is a great series debut on the Nintendo Switch, and it should excite fans of LEVEL-5’s long-running series. It’d even be a good starting point for first-time Layton players.

Even the things that were off-putting felt more like small stumbles than full-on faceplants. With so much to explore and unravel in this game, plus accessible daily puzzles, Katrielle and the Millionaires’ Conspiracy feels like a game we could get lost in for a good, long time.

This is more picturesque sightseeing than mysterious storytelling, but the puzzles are mostly challenging and work well on Switch.

Layton’s Mystery Journey: Katrielle and the Millionaires Conspiracy Deluxe Edition is as complete as this game will get, with the added benefit of being on a current console. The spirit of the Layton series continues on, but the story doesn’t live up to its predecessors. If you’re here for the puzzles there is more than ever, there are even extra daily puzzles. Just be prepared for a few too many ‘trick’ puzzles or unclear instructions that can have you second-guessing often. At the end of the day, Layton’s Mystery Journey is a decent game that will hopefully lead into a grander adventure with Katrielle at the helm.

The exuberant Katrielle, after having delighted us with her frivolities on portable devices and 3DS, breaks in with all her energy even on the Nintendo hybrid console.

Refined in every possible way, particularly through more practical puzzles, this Deluxe Edition proves a good introduction to the somehow lighthearted and acidulous investigations of Kat.

Layton's Mystery Journey isn't the best game in the series by any means, but it can still be an enjoyable collection of low-stress puzzles - especially in the absence of any other Layton titles on modern systems. Between the splendid production values and the large number of clever but recycled puzzles, new players will probably be the ones getting the most out of this Deluxe Edition.

This was my first game on switch and my third Layton game. It isn't the best that I have played, but I still had a fabulous time. Realistically I'd give it an 8.5, but I suppose a 9 will do

Aunque es bastante entretenido por todos los detalles que hereda de la franquicia (una buena banda sonora y ese estilo tan propio de resolver acertijos), no podemos pasar por alto que algunos puzles son confusos o que la trama tiene muchos altibajos. Y es que, pese a que sus personajes son bastante carismáticos con unos diálogos que te sacan muchas sonrisas y guiños hacia detectives famosos como Sherlock Holmes o Poirot, su protagonista se saca algunas deducciones de la manga para resolver los casos, dejándote con la sensación de que no se han estrujado mucho el cerebro a la hora de escribir una buena historia.

Probablemente uno de los Layton más flojitos de la saga a nivel argumental. Sin embargo, no debemos olvidar que se trata de un Spin Off y hay que juzgarlo como tal. Su banda sonora es tan buena como nos tiene acostumbrados Level-5 con esta franquicia y sus puzzles aunque algunos son más sencillos que sus predecesores, siguen siendo muy divertidos. Recomendado.

As a fan of the Layton franchise, I’ve played every gane in it, and Katrielle is a really, really bad game. Since launch I bought it and after years, today I haven’t been able to finish it due to its terribly dull and ridiculous story and the worst puzzles of all. I really hope I can play a new Layton’s game as it has to be with the mystery story and good puzzles.

I hate this game. There is a horrendous amount of drab / superfluous dialogue. I've played a singled puzzle and then it resumed vomitting dialogue.
