I, Hope
I, Hope doesn’t do an awful lot right with its relatively short, couple of hours, adventure, with problems in the gameplay mechanics standing in the way and immense frustration found at dying through no fault of your own. The execution of the idea is what hampers the experience, as there are some good blueprints here in regards both the platforming and puzzling aspects.
On the basis that 100 percent of proceeds are being donated to charity to help sick and suffering children, I, Hope outshines any other game on the market. The same sadly cannot be said about the game in general. I, Hope is a shoddy platformer that’s bland, frustrating and utterly underdeveloped. If you’re looking for your next platforming fix, this two hour adventure will only serve to disappoint you.

I, Hope is the first game ever where all profits made go to charity. The charity in question is called GameChanger Charity and the profits this game makes will help children suffering with life-threatening illnesses, so as you can imagine I hope this game makes a lot of money. Thankfully the game itself is very good and it projects a very important message throughout your time with the game. Frankly they’ve handled certain sensitive subjects extremely well and the story will stir up a lot of emotions inside you because they’ve handled things with an extreme amount of care and attention. The gameplay that follows the story has been done really well and it actually provides you with quite a lot of fun and that’s mainly because each mechanic works together very well. You will however have to take a bit of time to get used to the camera because it can be quite awkward at times, but when you do get used to it you hardly notice it in the end. Whilst I liked quite a few things about this game the most impressive aspect of this game for me were the puzzles. Each puzzle fits in with the story extremely well and the amount of variety each puzzle has is absolutely brilliant. The puzzles also require some thought to complete them and once completed you get a great sense of reward because at the end of the day you’re defeating cancer. These puzzles aren’t the only thing you will come across as there are a few enemies to defeat as well. The enemies in the game aren’t too taxing and I like the idea of turning the cancerous cells into nice creatures, which makes defeating them even more satisfying because you actually feel like defeating them matters. Whilst on the whole the technichal side of things hold up well I did however suffer with a few problems with the controls every now and then. The controls didn’t always remain responsive, but this was only a small problem because it didn’t happen very often so you can easily get around this. Thankfully there were no problems at all when it came to the presentation side of the game, and without a doubt the visuals and sound design made me grow closer to the game. The main reason why they made me grow closer is because every aspect of the visuals and sound design has had a lot of love and effort placed into them. At the end of the day I have to applaud what the developers have done here. They’ve managed to create a game that is an emotional journey and they’ve done this by explaining things in a way people of all ages can understand. Without a doubt this game made me sit up and realise what some children have to deal with everyday and I urge everybody to purchase this game so we can help these children battle the horrible illnesses they’re suffering with.

I got it for free on twitch prime, and it sounded nice. The gameplay was not. "Hope", the playable character, got stuck in the first minute of gameplay three times I started it. At that point, I gave up. I imagine how a child fighting cancer, the main target audience of "I, Hope", might feel about that if it happened to her or him. The cause the studio promotes by donating the proceeds of the game to cancer research is a good one, which might justify buying the game nonetheless. As a game, it gets a 0 from me.
