This precision 3D platformer does not work with mobile controls. One control option has you using the gyro in the phone to control your view, which is precise, but awkward if you're in a space where you can't move around. The other option is touch only, but doesn't give you easy access to all of your abilities. If you have a controller, give it a try, but it’s not worth the hard drive space otherwise.

Hot Lava is a funny platformer with a parkour vibe, some nice characters and a lot of missions. It must be played with a Bluetooth controller, however: touch controls don't work as they should, making the game even more frustrating.

Overall, Hot Lava is a fun parkour/action game with a lot of potential. Once they fix things like the control design, it’ll become a solid game on Apple Arcade. Until then, Hot Lava remains as a great game for the people with the correct equipment, i.e. a Bluetooth controller. The environment and unique universe will keep you entertained from beginning to end, and thanks to the different starts and collectibles there are, you have a lot of reasons to keep playing this game.

This game gives me serious motion sickness. The motion control scheme paired with the first person parkour gameplay does not really work well for it, especially on a tiny phone screen. Even if you ignore that, it's just a bog-standard platform game. It has a pretty unique style, but my enjoyment of the game overall was quite low

Hot Lava is generally fun to play but there's no rhyme or reason to most of the aesthetic choices. You really need to like first-person parkour going in and be open to the theme, but if you're ready to tick both of those boxes, give it a shot.
