Hearts of Iron IV goes further than any other Paradox game. One of the best war simulators games ever made.

The game does a fantastic job at delivering accurate content and historical events. It does all this while allowing the player to go in any direction during a campaign.

Amazingly sophisticated and despite its complexity surprisingly accessible strategy for all enthusiasts of the Second World War. It’s easier than the previous game, it has flaws, but it still rocks.

What makes Heart of Iron IV work is the fact that although it’s moulded around just ten years of history, it offers so much historical background and variable outcomes, and as such packs a mightier punch than might be at first expected. It’s complicated - overly so at times - and may not offer the same amount of replayability as other genre similars, but one thing is certain: there is rarely a dull moment.

I’m sure some WWII enthusiasts and military logisticians will appreciate the level of optimisable detail of armies and their behavior, but for a general audience, the managerial emphasis is in all the wrong places.

900h de jeu, toujours un plaisir de le lancer
Meme apres 10 ans le jeu continue de recevoir du contenu, rendant chaque partie differente

The game looks deep, but it's unnecessarily complicated, the UI is exhausting, and learning it feels more like a chore than fun. It feels more like work than a game.

Despite Paradox releasing a new DLC every few months, there is still not enough content. Furthermore, the company's portrayal of certain nations and historical decisions leaves a lot to be desired.

Hearts of Iron IV is one of those games that can be brilliant and exhausting at the same **** core idea is fantastic. Building an economy, preparing your military, managing production and watching a long-term plan finally come together can be extremely satisfying. Unfortunately, years of expansions have turned the game into a complicated pile of systems that do not always work well together.Paradox continues to add new mechanics, designers and focus trees, but some of the game's oldest problems are still here. The AI regularly makes terrible strategic decisions, struggles with supply and frontlines, and often has no idea how to use the increasingly complicated mechanics available to the player. This makes many campaigns become predictable once you understand how to exploit its **** DLC model also hurts the experience. There is so much additional content now that the base game can feel incomplete, while buying everything becomes extremely expensive. For a game this old, that is difficult to justify.Performance is another major issue. Large wars and late-game campaigns can slow the simulation down considerably, even when your computer is perfectly capable of running much newer games. What disappoints me is that Hearts of Iron IV does not need more content nearly as much as it needs refinement. Better AI, better performance, cleaner interfaces and improvements to existing mechanics would do far more for the game than another country pack or another alternate-history focus tree. There is still an excellent strategy game here, and that is exactly why the problems are so frustrating. HOI4 has grown enormously over the years, but it has not always grown in the right direction.
