Grime Definitive Edition is a fascinating action-platforming experience that I can’t recommend experiencing on the Switch. Its unique visual and narrative presentations will compel genre fans to the end, but the game would surely be better enjoyed without Switch performance problems dragging it down.

Grime is a beautiful, well-designed, challenging game with a ton of content, but it runs extremely poorly on Switch, to the extent that it’s hard to recommend this version of the game if you can get it on another platform. It’s disappointing, because Grime does so much right, and developer Clover Bite has clearly put a lot of love into it over the years. But all of that love can’t save an action game that just doesn’t run well. In this genre, that’s a deal-breaker. It’s a shame Grime’s Switch debut is so rocky, because playing as a rock creature with a black hole doubling as its cranium is really cool. Don’t get us wrong: Grime is playable on Switch, but until (or if) things get ironed out with updates, this brutal world is one you might want to avoid.

Grime isn't necessarily a great game, but it's definitely a memorable game. I can think of a few other games that play like it, but I can't think of any other games that really look like it. The disgusting body horror world was my favorite aspect of the game, which is good, because creating a memorable world is important for a Metroidvania. There's definitely some wrinkles to this Switch port, but Grime remains a satisfying time, sure to appeal to fans of both Soulslikes and Metroidvanias.

I am not one to write reviews; but I am so disappointed with the Switch version of this game; that I registered on MetaCritic, just so I can warn any an all to stay away from this Switch game. I predominately play games on the Switch console, so I have been eagerly awaiting the arrival of this game on Switch. Unfortunately, they did a terrible job in porting this over to the Switch. First thing you will notice is how disgusting and muddy the graphics are. What happened to the nice sharp visuals I saw in all of the game trailers. The art style of this game alone is why I wanted to experience this game. But that is not what you will see when you play this game on the Switch. I played the game in docked mode, on a nice OLED television and I am shocked with how bad the game looks. Maybe it looks better in handheld mode, but I did not try it. All of the textures are muddy, nothing looks sharp or crisp. That is not the worse part, the games frame rate is so bad that the game is almost unplayable. The screen skips and stutters, even during cut scenes?? How and Why? After only 15 minutes of gameplay, I decided to adjust my game controller buttons; guess what, the game froze. I had to go back to the Switches home screen to close out the game; it would not let me out of the game controller settings menu. After re-starting the game, and playing for about another 30 minutes, I decided that it was just not fun with all of these technical issues. Thankfully, Nintendo was understanding of my disappointment and they have issued me a refund on this game. Maybe in the future they will fix this game, based on all of the positive PC reviews, I was really looking forward to this game. But at this point in time, I will not recommend this game to anyone if they are planning on playing it on the Switch.

Yet another godawful Switch port, sloppily rushed out to make a quick buck. Stuttering, frame drops, screen tear, permanently missing textures. There is even up to a second of input delay just scrolling through the menu options. It really shouldn’t be this difficult to get a 2D Metroidvania right in this day and age. 1 point awarded as, from a gameplay perspective, it showed some promise. Sadly, could not make it further than an hour in, due to the performance. Make no mistake, this is nothing but Clover Bite and Akupara games spitting in the face of the consumer. F*** these guys. You all deserve better than this.
