Like its predecessor, Front Mission 2: Remake is rather of museum interest. The remake is performed at a level unworthy of the original.

A lot of Front Mission 2: Remake's shortcomings lie in a mixture of a sloppy transition to becoming a more modern game, including low budget and some of the old design choices from its source material. Many of the best aspects of the original still shine through and the remake's staff did make some legitimate improvements like the options to speed up gameplay aspects of the gamepla. With a bit more time, perhaps a better translation will get patched in and maybe a port for the more powerful consoles will iron out its technical shortcomings. Anyone who desires a demanding and complex strategy mecha game with political intrigue and a plot that predicts the dangers of globalism will get their money's worth with Front Mission 2: Remake.

This is a textbook case of a disappointing remake. Without the context of the original, you’d probably assume Front Mission 2 is a mediocre game. I’m sure the intent of all of the developers wasn’t nefarious, and it’s possible that there was just a brutal time crunch they had to work under that resulted in so many cut corners. The translation is such a massive blemish on this game that I can’t recommend this even being worth your time until it is properly retranslated, and hopefully, by then, you can grab it for a convenient sale. Front Mission 2 deserved better, and I wish I could have properly experienced everything it had to offer.

The game bugs at mission 17 after killing Drago the enemy general which is the mission objective. Nothing happens and you are stuck at that stage forever being unable to continue the game. Trash game they must refund us

I have the original game, what are these hopeless changes? I regret buying it, I'd rather play the original on an emulator. It's a shame and an abomination that someone would change the story and characters in a great game. How dare they sell this crap under the same name of a hit from years ago?

Following the remake of the first game, Front Mission 2: Remake happily brings another good tactical RPG to a new generation, albeit with some problems. In any case, it's a good game and we're already waiting for the already confirmed remake of Front Mission 3.

Although the first game received a more substantial upgrade, FRONT MISSION 2: Remake is still a must-have SRPG for fans of the genre and at its core; it remains the superior of the 2 titles despite some minor missteps with the update.

The tough thing about Front Mission 2: Remake is that it doesn’t present itself well upfront. Ultimately, those who push through will be rewarded, but it takes a lot of patience to get there. In the end, despite my complaints, I enjoyed my time with this game. Much like Front Mission 2: Remake’s global release, in the areas that matter, it eventually comes around, even if it takes a long time to get there.

About 30 hours in and If you're a fan of the series I'd recommend it on its own terms. The story so far is engaging, characters serviceable, combat is oddly balanced in its design (in terms of action points and weapon ranges, item use and movement). It seems simple and restrictive at first but adds a lot of depth to combat. My only criticisms are the translation, it's suffers from a janky translation from it original Japanese script to English where a lot of lines and dialogue doesn't make sense in terms of plot and context. Which is a shame as a simple once over from someone who knows English could Fix it. The other criticism would be the menu system could of been streamlined. The OGs did a terrible job of menu design and there's a lot of redundancy in it. Which could of been addressed easily If they wanted to. But other than that it's solid, looks nice, handles well and delivers more front mission cannon and aesthetics for you to absorb.

I don’t think Front Mission 2: Remake is a spectacular remake of the original game, but it’s not a bad one either. It’s on the good side of that line. The game itself is very enjoyable for those with the right mindset, though it hasn’t seen any mechanical changes here and feels very much its age as a result. The biggest fly in the ointment is the iffy English localization, which takes a game with an outstanding story and almost mulches its challenging plot. Still, it’s nice to have this game officially available in English at all, and the technical improvements over the original are very much appreciated.

Front Mission 2: Remake is, unsurprisingly, a remake of Front Mission 2. If you enjoyed the original, you’ll likely appreciate the remake. However, there isn’t much else to justify this release. The story is intriguing, but even the most dedicated fans of clunky, slow-paced video games may struggle to endure the RNG-heavy combat. This is especially concerning, considering it’s supposed to be the second of three Front Mission remakes. After the quality of the first two, there’s skepticism about whether the remake of Front Mission 3 will retain its essence.

Good-
The game looks great, even better than the remake of the first game, doubling down on the stylization and cutting back on visual effects that might make it look dated or lower budget; some very interesting mechanics in combat that make for some very compelling battles; some great world building. Bad-
The localization feels poorer than the first game; the lack of voice acting remains a bummer; the combat retains the randomness from the original game, while also upping the difficulty, leading to more frustrating battles; the story and characters all feel a lot more tropey and predictable this time around. Thoughts-
Is Front Mission 2: Remake a great game? Not really, at least not by the modern standards of the SRPG genre. But it is, and I would argue unlike the remake of the first game, a genuinely good one. There are some pretty glaring problems here – I think the story isn’t as good as the first game’s to begin with, and it suffers in the storytelling aspects as well, from the lack of voice acting to the poor localization. The game’s combat also feels more frustrating this time around, with a higher difficulty level while also retaining a lot of the randomness from Front Mission 1st Remake. At the same time, however, it adds so many interesting mechanics, that not only help mitigate a lot of that frustration, but also make this game a legitimately interesting and compelling one. And it looks great too, doubling down on the stylization aspects of the aesthetic, and culling back on a lot of visual flourishes that would draw unfavourable comparisons to modern titles. At the very least, if you are a fan of the series, and/or the genre, and want to see how it grew and evolved through the years, this release is very much worth looking into – and it does the on its own merits, not just on the back of this being the first official release for this game outside of Japan.

I'm not sure how much is the remake, or how much is a faithful recreation of what was in the original, but the UI is terrible, difficult to use, cluttered, and unreasonably slow. I loved the FM1 remake, and have played 1, 3, and 4. My 2 hours of experience with FM2r makes me regret purchasing it. I advise others to do their homework before getting this one. Editing much later, after playing what I suspect is most of the game. The controls really are awful. The art is bad, it's like they put half the Wanzer modeling time into the Zenith just so they could have good promotional art. It's always slow and unresponsive. The solo arena camera is all kinds of jank. Music is fine, and I'm glad they included both the original and remastered versions.
