You certainly can't fault Firefighter F.D 18 for fiery originality, but its ambitions are cruelly extinguished by overly simplistic game design and a clunky control system makes it the kind of cult curiosity that only the true hardcore would ever dare parting cash for.
75
This is also one of those games that outright begs for a bigger, badder and hotter (pun fully intended) sequel.

Despite a contrived love story, limited camera control, and levels that tend to drag, Konami has provided a refreshing change of pace in this punishing man-versus-nature offering that it requires you to stem the tide of destruction and actually save lives for once. [Apr 2004, p.74]

Extremely original but forgotten. I remember playing it with my family during a summer, visiting a beach. Good old times.

Short game with bosses at the end of each mission that are just too boring, and overall **** the entire planet this is the only firefighter game, well!

Good graphics, gameplay is okay, avegare story, but closer to the end game becomes too monotonous, boring and hard

I really didn’t know what to expect going in, I mean, “How fun can spraying water at fire be?” Turns out its pretty darn fun and compelling.

My all time favorite game. This is a must have for any PS2 owner. I was completely enthralled the entire time I played this game. This is a game that is easy to love. The graphics still hold up well even today, the missions are downright fun and the hazardous environment around you makes the gameplay never have a dull moment. The only bad thing I have to say about this game is the item selection screen. I wish they had implemented hot keys so I wouldn't need to pause the game every time I needed to use the Fire Axe.

With such a limited amount that Konami could do with such a title, there's enough variety in the obstacles and the bosses to keep things interesting.

When boiled down FD 18 is really a 3rd-person shooter with not much variety.

Interesting diversion. Yet for all this novelty, one realises that the linearity and the lack of player freedom (and opportunities) really puts a dampener on what could have been something gloriously different.

You might even turn a blind eye to some of the dull, repetitive levels because they don't last too long. But can you forgive the control set that has you shooting your nozzle with R1 while aiming with the right stick?
25
Misses the mark completely due to its slow pace and boring gameplay. Fire bad, indeed.
