Some 10 year old problems are still here proving that Lionhead didn't do its best during the port, but Fable -even after all those years- remains one unique fairytale of a game.
This is a great example of how a HD remake is supposed to be. If you're aware of the limitations you will find in a ten-year-old game, it's a good choice.
Peter Molyneux will retell you the tale you heard ten years ago for the first time. The game's package is prettier than ever before indeed, but its content is exactly the same, and unfortunately, it seems that all its glittering novelties are not without technical issues.
A good HD remake but the game itself doesn’t really warrant the attention, with too many unfulfilled promises that even its sequels failed to make good on.
The story has some minor twists and turns, but most of them can be seen from miles away, and its best characters and moments come and go in the cutscenes, not as part of gameplay.
Fable Anniversary is a Third Person Fantasy Adventure RPG, where you start out as a child, grow to adulthood, all the while making good or evil decisions which will change your characters appearance and forge a reputation with the people of Albion. Fable was developed by Big Blue Box Studios which eventually became Lionhead Studios and released in 2004. Fable Anniversary was released in 2014 and is an update/upscale/remake.Story: All stories must begin somewhere, and for Fable Anniversary you start as a little boy trying to earn enough money to buy a birthday gift for your sister. Right from the get-go you’re being given choices; do you want to take a bribe from the guy cheating on his wife? Or take the bribe and then go tell his wife? Or don’t take the bribe and go tell his **** the evilness spectrum, there’s really only two choices: the Goody-two-shoes-Angel route, or the Sinister-watch-the-orphanage-burn route. Some of my favorite choices were the occasional times I could do a bit of both… Beat up the wimpy kid… but then beat up the bully! …I woke up and chose violence on my villain play through, okay?As our little boy becomes a man, he will make more choices which will either help uphold the law or promote bandits and lawlessness. Killing bandits and monsters will get you renown and “Good morality points”, which go into the “good-boy” jar on the shelf. Killing guards and civilians or stealing from stores give you Evil morality Points", which go into the "bad boy" jar.Gameplay: You’re playing from third person view, your combat choices are: Melee, Range, and Magic (AKA “Will”). If you hit a bug with a sword, you get “Strength” experience, if you shoot a merchant with a cross bow you get “Skill” experience, if you Zap a bandit with electricity you’ll get “Will” experience. In addition to these experience pools if you kill something you can gather up green orbs which give you “General” experience which can be used to round off skills you unlock after you’ve used up the respective experience **** primary gameplay loop is “Hero, there’s another quest card at the guild for you!”, then you go to the guild, pick up the quest, and go run over and save Mr bigglesworth from a tree or something, for money, fame, and glory! Someone’s gotta save ‘em, why not me? (Unless I’m being evil, then I’ll capture and sell ‘em to the highest bidder)All of this should probably sound pretty standard for RPG-style-games, protagonist get stronger by leveling up, equipping gear and weapons, to take on scarier harder monsters and take them down. Where I think Fable shines is in its “theming”, the villagers commenting on your hero’s appearance while running around with their English accents, the music in the background as you do evil or good things your character’s appearance changes, the fantasy-esk world of Albion, the more cartoony stylized characters, these were staple themes I recognized right away having played Fable II. I missed them and while playing Fable Anniversary they just hit the spot for a game I really was looking forward to playing! Conclusion: Fable reminds me of Grims fairy tales… the ones which are magical, but people die! Overall I’d say my experience was positive and I’m glad I have Fable Anniversary in my game library! However, it’s clunky, you can tell it’s an older game with slightly improved graphics painted over the top of it. I don’t think that should discourage anyone from playing it, but just be aware of it going in.I’m going to keep praying to Avos that we get Fable II on PC someday… maybe I’m doing it all wrong though… maybe I need to bring “Gifts” to Skorm… Hey, you wanna go for a walk with me? Nah, nah, it’s fine, it’ll be fun. Also ignore that evil sounding background music. …There's more to the review, but I'm out of Characters... I bought and played this in the hope that it would be a massive improvement on the original. Dont get me wrong, it is very easy on the eye with the souped up graphics, mission variation and menu **** the gameplay was never an issue before or **** the main thorn in the side was and is the **** very easy to get lost and lose your bearings unless you memorise every nook and cranny of the map.Once this starts to give you a migraine, you lose interest in the story, gameplay, adventuring etc. Compared to its sequels, which were far more engaging on all levels, even the Anniversary edition failed to impress to a greater degree than was anticipated.
Fable the Lost Chapters is a great game. I can't say the same thing about this remake. The controls looks like **** the UI **** and Sometimes the character models look even worse then the original game. Also the game freezes a lot!! Don't buy this game when you can play the original!
