The Cosmic Abyss suffers from an overly long and exhausting plot, a forgettable and frankly unnecessary villain, a stamina system that felt tacked on more than anything else, and an empty, boring world. I wanted to like this game, but the negatives heavily outweigh the good. It’s a shame, because this is a game that does have potential, but it’s never able to realize it at all. In the end, Cthulhu: The Cosmic Abyss is a mystery best left unsolved.

An interesting deconstruction of Lovecraftian horror that nails the atmosphere, but is ultimately held back by repetitive levels and technical bugs.

A game that isn’t afraid to let players muddle through it on their own is an idea to be lauded, and here there is a core mystery that will provide a compelling enough reason to continue if you can get into the rhythm of the puzzling.

It was okay. But unfortunately, nothing more than that. Everything drags on a bit, like chewing gum. Is it playable? Yes. But if you miss it, it's not the end of the world.

One of the most boring games I've ever played. I couldn't finish it because I kept falling asleep. Uninstalled!

I've been waiting for a mystery game like this for a long time! The puzzles are challenging, and the atmosphere is darker than horror, but it's perfect for thinking things through and stepping into the shoes of a Miskatonic occult investigator! There are plenty of references to Lovecraft’s broader body of work, but it’s also accessible to non-fans, and that’s a real feat! You might get a bit spooked by the first two chapters, which are really wordy, but after that, things calm down as you delve deeper into the “depths.” The same goes for the graphics, which get more and more stunning as the story unfolds. In short, it was a treat from start to finish, and I’m giving it a high rating even though I found the final chapter very challenging, I think anyone who loves the Lovecraftian atmosphere should definitely give it a try.Translated with **** (free version)

Cthulhu: The Cosmic Abyss is, crashes and caveats aside, an excellent game. Key is a triumph, the puzzles are imaginative, and the final chapter earns everything it demands of you. I’ve spent about 12 hours with it and I find myself wanting to talk about it with everyone who has ever shared even a flicker of an interest in Lovecraft with me. It’s a cosmic horror that brings classic tropes into futuristic dressing and manages to do that well. What’s not to like?

Its puzzles may leave something to be desired, but Cthulhu: The Cosmic Abyss legitimately feels like one of Lovecraft’s dark stories experienced first-hand.

Howdy from Texas,
Hope y’all doin’ good. In between a couple good BBQs I gotta say Cthulhu The Cosmic Abyss took me straight into another world. The story really pulls you in, visuals are real solid, had a few slowdowns here and there but nothin’ that ruins the ride. The investigation system works pretty damn well, The Vault kinda feels like an investigator board but in a more modern way. Key, the AI that sticks with Noah the investigator you play cowboy brings a bit of life, cause you don’t run into many folks down in them abysses. Sound design’s real good, music fits just right and builds up the mood. Some puzzles can get a bit tricky but man it feels good when you crack em.I’d recommend it to anyone lookin for a trip into a modern take on Lovecraft, and who ain’t afraid of a bit of reading.

Cthulhu: The Cosmic Abyss is a must-play game, especially for fans of H.P. Lovecraft’s works. Even though you don’t face a direct threat as a player, the story gradually draws you into this chaos, enriching the gameplay with systems like mind maps, deductions, and corruption to help you reach the end of this fictional world. In short, it’s a valuable title for fans of the genre and players who can muster a bit of patience. Still, it’s a shame it couldn’t have launched without needing the major patch that’s been announced for the future.

Cthulhu: The Cosmic Abyss is an incredibly fun adventure puzzle game with some very well put-together mechanics that make investigating and solving puzzles almost as interesting as its Lovecraftian roots, which is why it's a shame that it fumbles properly connecting those roots to its gameplay, leaving much of the horror and tension built up in its early chapters at the bottom of the ocean. Odd missteps in its storytelling and an unfortunate amount of bugs that entirely blocked progression and left save files corrupted don't help its case, but when it's all working as it should, the gameplay generates a rewarding and fun loop that'll keep you glued to your screen as if Cthulhu already has full control of your mind.

Cthulhu: The Cosmic Abyss is a Lovecraftian game to the core, but it is also an investigative adventure with an overly slow pace and less frightening than expected.

Cthulhu: The Cosmic Abyss is a flawed, but interesting experience. The narrative is straight out of a Lovecraft story and it escalates into a suitably maddening conclusion. The mechanics are interesting and promising but the lack of polish across multiple platforms and the inconsistency of responsiveness made for an overly frustrating time and I was ready for the game to end quite a bit before an incredibly complicated final puzzle. I’m glad that I persevered (albeit with the ingame AI assistance) as the ending felt appropriate. If you have the patience, and enjoy the setting, then there is some fun to be had, but perhaps wait for further patches for a less frustrating experience.

Cthulhu: The Cosmic Abyss is the monotony of desk work, and the drudgery of reading pages of emails after your morning cup of coffee.

This game was a real surprise. I went in with zero expectations and got hooked almost immediately. It’s a really engaging investigation game. It doesn’t hold your hand too much—you have to figure everything out on your own. Finally, a game that respects the player! That’s **** you’re not ready to invest yourself, stay away. But if you want a game that makes you think, dig for answers, and rewards you for it, then dive into Cthulhu: Cosmic Abyss.
I barely ran into any bugs. I played on PC.
It’s not a AAA title, but the atmosphere and visuals are absolutely mesmerizing.

Nice story, with a lot of reading and thinking. Not an action game, but more of a detective experience. Some minor technical issues on my side, like occasional micro-lag, although the game runs well with DLSS and frame generation. I have over 10 hours of playtime. I’m not familiar with Lovecraft’s world, but I really got into it, and the investigation mechanics feel very realistic.

The game is riddled with bugs and offers absolutely nothing in terms of gameplay. I've rarely been so bored.
