Cooking Mama 4: Kitchen Magic is the newest installment in the Mama series. 505 Games released the game on the 3DS – why is a secret to everybody, as the game doesn't use the unique 3DS features. The rest of the game is good old Mama gameplay, which could have easily been released on the Nintendo DS.

More of the same culinary-based action again, but this time it's more of the same in three dimensions and for up to four players. [Christmas 2011, p.68]

Numerous sequels and spin-offs later, the franchise has arrived on the Nintendo 3DS handheld, but I'm sad to say that the experience hasn't improved at all. [Nov 2011, p.77]

Cooking Mama 4 is nothing more than a new iteration of a played out series. This game is for fans of touch screen-based mini-games and references to cooking only. Oddly, despite the term being in the title, there is little actual learning about the craft. For most players, you're better off skipping this title, as it is just more of the same.

Cooking Mama 4 is a wasted opportunity. There are no remarkable new features in gameplay, the graphics have not been revised to make the most of 3D, and it makes no difference to the Nintendo DS entries, which is a shame. It will only result interesting for those who are newcomers to the series.
