After the bizarre novelty of Chubbins wears off, the only feeling left is emptiness.

My biggest problem with Chubbins is that I never quite found myself having fun with it. Instead, I was consistently frustrated, and longer play sessions resulted in sore thumbs.

Chubbins is a deceptively difficult old-school platformer that's all about managing your angles and learning to bounce at just the right moment.

It's a cute little physics platformer... until you encounter your first enemy. You can't kill them, you can only bounce around them. And there is no forgiveness at all. Get your angle or timing slightly wrong, and you're starting all over. Takes less than 10 minutes for this game to go from fun to frustrating. Chubbins appears to be designed for masochists.

Chubbins at first appeared to be a fairly unique platformer with some simple controls, but the end result was far from it. Chubbins is a game where you control a rabbit by moving left and right. He never stops bouncing and the blocks depict which direction he will bounce and how far. You can also eat foods to change your color so you can bounce through certain colored spikes. The concept is simple enough and starts out pretty interesting, but the moment they start throwing in enemies is becomes about timing, and very close edged angling. I pushed through hoping to get to some meatier content, but I never got anything better. The levels eventually used their food mechanic in ways that just made levels a maze. There was no guidance at all and you cannot learn without trying every possible thing. For example, a level in world 2 required me to get the carrot and go down; however, unless I purposely fell down I would've never known where to go. There were no visible blocks below me, so I assumed it was a void. I bounced up, but only to be hit by spikes that required me to have eaten a clover. In the end, Chubbins is simply a game full of bad level design that is simply not fun. It never delivers anything other than frustration.

That’s something that could have gone a long way in making some of the game’s more clunky and frustrating elements a tad more palatable. As it stands, Chubbins ends up a niche title for those seeking a somewhat unique and demanding platforming experience with no frills.
