I played the original game many decades ago. It wasn’t one of my favorites. I used to remember some scenes and parts when I started the Reforged. Now I have a better impression of the games that I did back then. The remake of the graphics and art is excellent, the new design of the characters. The music and sound effects(which I think are the original ones) Its one of the best aspects of the game. Its an adventure design so you can have a good time, relax. The atmosphere never becomes too oppressive or dark.
The best parts of the story are the those directly connected with the action of finding the treasure. The cave, the Vasconcellos mansion, search for clues in the parchment. I liked a lot the action sequence on the train. I didn’t remember that part. Some dialogues between George and Nico are very good as well. The love triangle between George, Nico and Andre is okay but its not developed enough. What I don’t like are the puzzles in general. They feel very implausible in many moments. There are many puzzles to distract characters so you can take an object or advance to a location. There are also a lot of stereotypical and cartoonish characters along with a lot of weak dialogue. I recognize thay they put a lot of work and thought into this game in the 90´s. The music, the script, level variations. I understand why its considered one of the best adventures of that era.

For me, Broken Sword Reforged is the best remaster of a point-and-click adventure I have ever seen. With great attention to detail, it’s a very faithful restoration of the original — it preserves the art style and charm, successfully carrying them into the modern era. This stands in stark contrast to the Broken Sword Director’s Cut, which—quite inexplicably—was praised in a review I saw. The Director’s Cut replaced the stylistically perfect intro of the original with a stiff, anticlimactic opening, visually reminiscent of rigid Flash animations rather than the original’s gorgeous cartoon aesthetic.Reforged also wisely abandons the sharp-edged character portraits that never matched the 90s cartoon design of the **** background art and character animations have been lovingly and accurately restored, and even small logic issues in the scenery were fixed (e.g., the café counter now shows the expected damage after the explosion in the opening scene). The audio has been upgraded only subtly, likely due to the low quality of the original sound files. Completely re-recording the voice acting wouldn’t have been a viable solution for fans anyway — and to me, the sound quality feels just right. There are also new hints that can be revealed step-by-step, optionally after some time has passed. If you want a faithful and beautiful restoration of the classic, Broken Sword Reforged is far superior to the Director’s Cut, which replaced and essentially ruined the iconic, bombastic original intro with a newly invented, utterly dull prologue — not to mention the inconsistent art design throughout the DC version. As for Broken Sword in general: everyone should experience this absolute classic of the point-and-click genre at least once. For me, it’s the perfect blend of mysterious adventure, humor, and memorable, likeable characters. Even today, Broken Sword easily holds its own among the best adventure games ever made.

For me, Broken Sword is still one of the best adventure games of all time. The historical story scores with a great setting, charming heroes and brilliant wit. Connoisseurs should be able to puzzle their way through the reasonably extensive game with ease, and beginners don't have to worry either thanks to the help-supported mode. Thanks to lovingly prepared graphics, you can now experience the game in a completely new way - and even completely uncensored. The outdated-sounding dubbed version and the fiddly reworked operation with classic PC peripherals take little away from the fun of the game. Fans of Dan Brown and Co. shouldn't miss the remake, nor should anyone who puzzled their way through the original back then. By the way, part II is welcome to follow!

Reforged - lacking improvements of the Director's Cut, but sporting very nice remade graphics and animations. Shame about the poor sound quality and lack of environmental sound or music for most of the time. The game is often completely silent which is not fitting for a 2024 game.

Mega. Nach so vielen Jahren nochmals das Spiel in 16:9 mit wesentlich verbesserter Grafik zu spielen, klasse! Das Spiel hat den gleichen Charme. Super restauriert. Daumen hoch

I've played Broken Sword on nearly every platform it has been released for. I can safely say this is the best presentation of the game released yet. I was cautious about hearing how AI was used in its creation, but Revolution have shown that it only ever really used as a way of reducing human-chore. All assets, as far as I know, were ultimately human-lead. Dropping the content from the Directors Cut is more controversial. Some find this content boring, I love it as it gives Nico actual things to do in the story rather than be an exposition mouthpiece, even if ultimately her content has little weight in the story. The only place I found this Reforged edition struggle was in its audio. They've naturally reused the files from the original release, but some sound like they were recorded in a tin can. When the rest of the presentation was improved so much, this really stands out. It has left me wanting more remasters so I can replay the classics, hopefully including the excellent fan-created 2.5, and very much excited for the next installment too.
