You don’t need to be a BlazBlue diehard to appreciate BlazBlue Entropy Effect. Its roguelike gameplay features some of the most fun yet complex combinations of button mashing and attack chains. It is far more approachable than most roguelikes I’ve played recently thanks to how it presents complex information to players and gives them opportunities to test out mechanics without relying on trial and error.

BlazBlue Entropy Effect, though not an official BlazBlue title, carves its niche as a rich roguelike action game, focusing on gameplay over narrative. Players navigate a robot-controlled world, unraveling the story through collectibles amid intense action. The game's strength lies in its character-specific abilities and combat system, allowing for unique and strategic builds, with a depth that keeps gameplay fresh and engaging. Despite the narrative's complexity and some repetitive early stages, the game excels in its combat mechanics and continuous character progression, making it a standout in the roguelike genre and a respectful nod to the BlazBlue series' legacy.

Even if you're not a fan of the mainline franchise, BlazBlue: Entropy Effect will appeal if you like a good side-scrolling action game.

All in all, BlazBlue Entropy Effect is a fun experience with slick combat. I just wish it felt like the BlazBlue title meant something. Right now, it seems like an unrelated game got put under the BlazBlue umbrella for marketing purposes. Oh well, at least Taokaka is still fun to play.

BlazBlue Entropy Effect stands out for its intense gameplay and stylized visuals, offering fluid combat full of possibilities. The variety of characters with unique styles makes the matches exciting, and the combo system provides strategic freedom. On the other hand, it lacks depth in some aspects: the roguelike elements have little impact, with repetitive stages and some confusing mechanics. Still, the game delivers good action moments, especially for those who appreciate the BlazBlue universe and its exaggerated style.

BlazBlue Entropy Effect is an enjoyable roguelike that players will no doubt be able to play for more than a handful of hours. It sets itself apart from other games within the same genre due to it’s strong focus on characters and character builds, but the same-ness of stages leaves something to be desired. However, due to the limited stages and lack of engaging story it may not be too enticing for those looking for a roguelike with a little more substance.

Entropy Effect X offers, through a powerful license, an explosive and fun mix of rogue dynamics with fighting game elements. [Recommended]
