Bears in Space and its colourful visuals, weird gags and minigames, as well as its retro sci-fi setting, goes in a direction similar to High on Life. However, the jokes are a little more on the family friendly side. There's no blood, you only spill the oil of hordes of robots. The game options allow you to tweak everything from incoming and outgoing damage to aim assist settings to the amount of challenge you want to put up with in platforming sections. This makes the game more accessible to younger and less experienced space adventurers. With a good 15 hours of play time, Bears in Space can feel almost a little too long.

Bears in Space is a Saturday Morning Cartoon experience in the guise of a twitch FPS. Its absurdity, tight shooting and charm easily paper over the game's weaker elements making it a solid game to play in between bigger and deeper releases

I was blown away by how good the writing is, it's truly great comedy. My advice would be to understand why all these reviews liked Bears in Space more than High on Life and build on that (keep doing what you're doing, and embrace/widen the gap between the competitors)When I played High on Life a couple months ago the jokes were a bit too edgy and crass in that game. I would often get annoyed by the humour in High on Life, or cringe at it, or both. Bears in Space is a lot more modest with it's jokes in a smarter way, even if the jokes themselves are really silly and goofy fun. To put it into perspective, Bears in Space has a wide range of humour but it particularly has more old-fashioned 90's/00's type of humour (think Leslie Nielsen's parody movies like Airplane/Scary Movie) relative to high on life being strictly more ultra-contemporary (rick and morty, etc.). I think Bears in Space will age a lot better because of that alone. Bears in Space had me actually laughing out loud more times then I can **** only 1 single negative/criticism is that the game was too long (22hrs, could have been 30 on higher difficulty setting and exploring more). It's great value for money, but the issue is that it certainly risked the humour getting dry and old. Some jokes/sequences were repeated a few too many times. Personally, I didn't mind, I actually thought it was funny to see the repetition, but I could see how others may have grown a little tired of it. Putting the humour aside, the gameplay also got a little tiring- not a lot, just a little! But a small part of me was glad the game was over when it finished, the robots and gun noises and all the ADHD chaos just gets physically tiring. Short and sweet is a virtue in game design in general, and in comedy **** gameplay itself is still very fun and relaxing to play in general though. Despite complaining about the game length, the devs did such a great job at adding in new guns, gameplay, new mini games, it really was phenomenal and I have huge respect for ****'s a solid 9.5/10, a genuine GOTY contender for sure.

Despite appearances, Bears In Space is an FPS that knows what it's doing. Bullet hell and platforming, weapons to upgrade and secrets to find, madness galore, infernal boss fights and gameplay deviations, there really is a bit of everything in this bizarre Australian title which may not be perfect, but where it is written that a video game necessarly have to be one to be fun?

A fun, light-hearted entry into the now packed Boomer Shooter genre that does enough different to stand out from the pack. Its addition of bullet-hell style mechanics and use of comedy make this one worth a look.

Bears in Space has the potential to be a great game, at least for a younger audience. It’s entertaining yet provides a sense of challenge. The story will hook you in and many of the activities will keep you satisfied. For a game that was developed by a small team, Bears in Space provides so much content that will entertain and keep you bear-ry busy. Despite some unfortunate glitches, exploring a vast galaxy with Maxwell and Beartana was definitely a fun adventure.
