Our expectations for Babylon's fall were sky high. A collaboration between legendary publisher Square Enix and developer PlatinumGames, a few years ago responsible for the masterful 'NieR: automata', that could only produce fireworks, right? Unfortunately, fireworks that end with a whimper.

Babylon's Fall is a game that impresses by the fact that nothing in it works as it should. It's a boring title and marked by a series of problems. It ends up standing out as one of the worst games in a year full of great releases.

In its current state after a few updates, Babylon’s Fall is worth trying through the demo before you should consider picking it up on a discount. Until the team can overhaul the progression system to ensure most things aren't unlocked after a dozen hours of playing, Babylon's Fall likely will continue to lose players early on. There is definitely potential here and a lot of the bosses and areas are worth experiencing, but it is hard to recommend at even half price right now unless you click with the combat in the demo and want to see more.

A failed live service game that could have been big, thanks to the combo of Square Enix and Platinum Games joining forces, this game really has nothing to offer. Poor graphics that make mid 2000's-early 2010's online games look fantastic. Poorly responsive controls. A nonsensical story, with terrible "acting" performances. I'm glad Babylon's Fall failed.

I dreaded having to review this as my goal to have reviews for platinum involved games. Babylon's Fail is more like Babylon's Fail, this game feels unfinished and bad. Its broken levels and bad graphic textures, the unfinished cutscenes and broken multiplayer. Unnecessary microtransaction that do nothing for experience but hate is overblown but yet still not great look. What happened initial trailers looked good but they dragged it into GAS heck with feedback issues, square chasing/ funding issues and alot of obvious flaws. The main salvage from this is some decent music and ideas for combat/ bosses probably some by platinum underneath. Looks way outdated, the rewards are nothing and feels incomplete like it had potential but not enough to actually make the feedback/ game it could have been your better than this platnium.

My time with Babylon's Fall was a strange one. I don't recall ever disliking a game so heavily, only to fall in love with it moments later. The satisfaction driven nature of the experience is a road worth taking, but the slow burn isn't for everyone.

Babylon’s Fall is the first console GaaS developed by Platinum Games and it shows. Technically anchored to the past and artistically uninspired, the action game developed by the creators of Bayonetta hides its best features behind an abysmal story mode that lets the gameplay breath only after more than 10 hours of mandatory tutorials. Post-game content is interesting and the gameplay loop might be engaging after a good amount of updates to fix the rough edges, but will players keep faith in the developers after being welcomed in that way?

Oh my. Platinum Games is one of Japan’s finest developers when it comes to action games, but this one is a real stinker and not worthy of the studio’s name. Babylon’s Fall? More like Babylon’s fail.

Babylon Fall is a game that can entertain you for a couple of hours but quickly becomes quite monotonous. It has a history that is not very inspired with combat that lacks depth.

Babylon's Fall is just dull, repetitive and ultimately forgettable. The combat at the game's core so simple and lacking in challenge, especially if you have a full team. We all know that PlatinumGames are capable of games so much more than this, and Square Enix should probably step back from their live service efforts, because they simply haven't cracked it.

There is no one that we would recommend Babylon’s Fall to. It’s visually dated, consistently dull and features the most average PlatinumGames combat we can remember. On paper, the concept of a game like this bathed in the studio’s signature style is an appealing one, but sadly there’s nothing about the Platinum shine that’s evident in Babylon’s Fall.

If you liked Godfall and the quirkiness of NieR then you are likely to enjoy your time with this game. It has issues, several of them namely graphically it’s not PS5, the story, cutscenes and voice acting is quite poor BUT at it’s core there is a satisfying gameplay loop during which you chase loot and make builds to take on higher level endgame content. Solo is doable but is more fun with matchmaking.

This game could have been amazing. The combat is awesome and a lot of fun. The story, setting and lore is also pretty interesting, exploring the Tower of Babylon would have been something I would have been really interested in. But the whole game is ruined by this forced online and game as a service stuff. You can't even start the game without having a PS plus subscription, even though it says you only need it to play in coop! On top of that, the game slams microtransactions in your face, despite charging $70 for the game.
