Amnesia: The Dark Descent

This game vibes so hard…15 years after its release and it’s still scary!!!!!

Il faut survivre dans l'obscurité en évitant les ennemis, toute confrontation étant fatale. Le sound design et la direction artistique renforcent bien la peur et l'horreur. Par contre, je trouve que l'histoire n'est pas très bien racontée, et les textes sont trop ****.

This cult classic for horror games does its best to scare the absolute **** out of you. Very few games have kept my palms sweaty and heart racing as much as this one. The setting of Brennenburg Castle in the 19th century really immerses the player in a medieval and old-fashioned environment, littered with dark corners and monsters ready to kill you. Using a lattern that has limited fuel to traverse the castle and uncover its secrets succeeds in keeping the player stressed at all times. One downside is the lack of direction in terms of objectives and puzzles, as I found it quite difficult to get through the game without looking up help on the internet. Still a classic and still one of the scarcest games ever made.

Игра, породившая волну ужастиков, где надо убегать от ебаки. Но как же она хайпанула и придурки пошли играть. Хотя, как по мне, это убожество, как и все её подражатели.

Atmospheric and creepy for a while...then it gets boring. There's something that really breaks immersion for me. You can't fight at all. You can't even shove things away when you get close. You can't pick up any sort of weapon despite passing dozens of reasonable objects like shovels and knives. This leads to a problem. All the monsters have to be lame enough that you can just walk away from them. The sense of danger just goes out the window once you figure out the game mechanics. A "Horror" game isn't scary once you realize you are literally no danger whatsoever for 90% of the play time. It's not terrifying, it's a fun-house ride. Complete with blinking lights and people making "OOOoooooo" noises from around corners. If you really try to get immersed in it, I guess it could be a pretty creepy experience. But it's not a all that great as a GAME. Which is a pity, because it's been quite a while since we had a horror game that was both fun to play and actually scary. We might have to go all the way back to System Shock 2 in 1999. Although i suppose F.E.A.R. or Call of Cthulhu Dark Corners of the Earth might be honorable mentions.
