A cerebral challenge that has the right combination of historical perspective, easy control elements, well-designed graphics, and solid game play.

From the graphics to the execution to the gameplay mechanics, America is the poorest excuse for a real-time strategy game I've seen.
50
A cookie-cutter "Age of Empires" clone...delivers a dose of good, old-fashioned fun.

We've played "Age of Empires," and America, you are no "Age of Empires."

Everything it has to offer has been seen many times before in older RTS games. Old-fashioned gamelpay, lackluster AI, and obsolete graphics with a huge resemblance to the good old AOE are the main downsides to this title. Really not enough to make me ever want to load up America again.

Unfortunately, American doesn't offer much in the way of multi-player. While there are 20 multi-player maps available with the package, skirmishes are limited to LAN play only.

History Buffs may consider this "Age of Empires" clone if it's cheap, but all else leave it be. [Apr 2001, p.84]

A classic example of a game that looks pretty decent of paper, but is actually horrible in application.

SummaryAn RTS of power, lust, ambition, and greed, America is set in the wildest days of the Wild West. You control the destiny of a group of people (settlers, Native Americans, Mexicans, and outlaws) and lead them, by your guile, to power and prosperity. [Data Becker]
