I wanted to like "Roma", I really did. But, ultimately, the plot is predominately uneventful and, ultimately, not incredibly entertaining. As a fan of realism in film, perhaps "Roma" was a just a little TOO real for my tastes. I found myself looking at the clock throughout the film as elongated scenes of washing clothing or characters ruminating and contemplating life dragged on throughout this already-lengthy film. Presumably incredibly personal and meaningful for the director of this autobiographical film, the story, to me, was underwhelming and blasé.

Wonderfully bizarre and exceptionally thought provoking, "The Lobster" is a film that is so unique and, in its own way, beautiful, that it is hard to define or categorize amongst traditional filmmaking. The director conveys a focused vision with precision and gravitas, yet allows enough room for breathing space. It is needed to digest the heavy philosophical content tackling existentialism and the role of romantic relationships in modern life.

Not only should Glenn Close be recognized for her stellar skill as an actor in this film, but the film, as a whole, is a mini-masterpiece of elegant cinematography, crisp, sharp dialogue and inventive directorial choices.

It's a mystery what all of the hype is about... Excruciatingly slow, bleak, boring characters and landscapes and about 45 mins. too long. If you enjoy watching someone take leftover pizza out of a fridge, put it in the microwave and watch it slowly turn, you might like this movie (this was an actual scene in the film - about 1-2 mins. long).
