I'm a little dumbfounded that this movie didn't do better at the box office because I found it highly entertaining. The trailer makes it seem like it's going to be very heavy science-fiction but it's not. There are certainly light moments like there were in the movie Groundhog Day. For all those Tom Cruise haters out there, the real star of this movie is Emily Blunt. She is outstanding and she is underrated as usual.

Shaylene Woodley has really come into her own. She's a powerhouse and she and Jennifer Lawrence will be battling for the best roles for young actresses of the next 10 years or so I would predict. I think the moviemakers handled a very tough subject with maturity and class. What I see it twice? Maybe but it's absolutely worth seeing once.

Jenny Slate is a revelation. I can't wait to see what she does next. This movie's topic may rile some moviegoers but it really shouldn't. I'm surprised that more standup comedians don't venture out to do this sort of movie more often. Come to think of it I would love to see Louis CK do this type of movie even though his TV show is essentially that.

The movie looks beautiful but it's just a little slow for my liking. I really do enjoy Marion Cotillard's work as a general proposition but in this movie I thought she was underutilized and had far too many blank stares. Frankly I would take just about any episode of boardwalk empire over this move. Or come to think of it any of episode of Copper. Each of those television series approach the era with much more vigor and superior characterization and storytelling. I was hoping that Jeremy Renner's role would be a bit more significant, and I thought that Joaquin Phoenix might display a little bit more rage. It is certainly worth seeing but I have to give it only a modest recommendation.

Some of the professional critics were far too hard on this movie. If you like Adam Sandler films in general you will love this one as usual. It's got the same cast of characters that were in grandma's boy happy Gilmore etc. Drew Barrymore has great chemistry was Sandler and Terry crews added just enough of a comedic injection. After having seen the very boring Godzilla last weekend this movie was a real treat. No it wasn't good enough to award it in eight or nine but believe me when I say you won't regret the laughs that you have in this 90 minutes.

This is absolutely one of the better movies of the year and I think John Favreau deserves a hell of a lot of credit for putting it altogether. Probably the biggest joke of this movie's release is the fact that it has achieved an R rating simply because it has one too many F bombs in it. The last time a great family movie with virtually no adult aspect to it got an R rating was the classic win-win. I think the MPAA or whoever does these ratings needs to pull its head out of his own ass and start reading movies appropriately. One final mention of John Leguizamo. He is outstanding in this film and pretty much makes every movie he's in better. Casting directors get this guy in more movies.

I'm a little shocked that so many critics slammed this movie. It's actually quite a lot of fun and the female lead is spectacularly beautiful. See it on the big screen or don't see it all.
