By American standards, the satire is about 50 years behind the times for ****, but even accounting for cultural differences, the comedy is limp and the storytelling so inept as to provoke amazement.

The players, who include Simon Callow, Kristin Scott Thomas from ****, Rowan Atkinson and Sophie Thompson, exude comedic brightness as they go about their gossipy, farcical, self-deprecating, sorry-about-that-old-chap, just-being-English business. The infectious charm and sunny goodwill of Four Weddings and a Funeral can so immediately buoy a soul ravaged by winter weather and winter movies.

If the film is so close to the original as to also be pretty much disposable once its over for ****, at least it as well serves up a healthy amount of laughs during its very brief and brisk run time.
