A boy and his dog are meant to be at the heart of Isle of Dogs, the Wes Anderson stop-motion film. It seems, though, that while gorgeously animated, the feel of cultural insensitivity distracts from this relationship. When Atari meets the dog Chief, the language barrier is pointless to them, but for us, it closes us off. We understand Rex and his friends but our disconnect from Atari, the Mayor, the Major, and all of the Japanese characters is off-putting. Especially when an American character like Tracy plays one of the most important roles other than the dogs.

Despite being fun and inventive, this is a sequel that dives crotch-first into a moral quandary. It also suffers from a lot of the same problems many other sequels have: re-hash. Moving from one plot point to another, it repeats the creative strategy from the first film. Yet still, it is an enjoyable second entry into the "not really a superhero" superhero genre.

In Unsane, Sawyer fights off real and imagined unwanted advances of David, while dealing with a broken mental health facility. Sawyer's admittance becomes more long-term as her reality seems to bend around her. Thanks to both David, Violet, and other staff and patients, her sanity becomes more unclear. We see respites from this in her interactions with Nate and her mom, Angela. Despite the seeming finality near the end of the film, the actual ending is much more ambiguous.

The perfect mix of mind-boggling fear and dark humor. On Peele's first major directorial outing, he nails it. Kaluuya, Williams, and Howery stand out next to Whitford and Keener's performances.

Dunkirk displays Nolan's style at its most intriguing. The disparate plotlines are a bit confusing but make more sense with a second viewing. Nolan manages to unite the separated characters under his steadfast theme.

A really great film that gets better with repeated viewings. Edgar Wright continues to prove himself a comedic auteur. Elgort, Hamm, and Foxx display truly intriguing performances.
