This game reminds me of when developers cared about making a fun game and not just a cash grab. The game is pure fun. 90 levels and every single one is completely unique. Challenging but not too hard, with collectibles that are fun to acquire and not tedious. Kind of reminds me of the old Spyro or Crash games. Worth every penny.

If you’ve played DQB2, that game is far superior to this, it’s like they took 10 steps backwards but since it has Pokemon instead, it must be better. The building, quests, customization, and world are all inferior to the DQB games. The map is tiny and dull. Building for your Pokemon is boring. I gave this 15 hours but I’d rather play Z-A.

Empty world, repetitive dungeons, horrific combat and balance issues galore. Making the NPCs HD didn't do them any justice, it just made them extremely disturbing to talk to. Skyrim is a much better game than this, and fully modded Skyrim can look better and perform flawlessly. The only things Oblivion does better than Skyrim are the guild quests and... well that's it I guess. Just go play Skyrim.

Believe the negative reviews. This game launched in an UNACCEPTABLE state. The performance is completely terrible, even on the best PC possible. The save system is totally flawed. At any moment you may end up hard locked or losing 5+ hours of playtime due to the way the game handles saving. This game does not deserve you money until they fix performance and save files. The pawn AI is also atrocious. Skyrim with mods (follower framework) has far better follower AI than this. It's totally pathetic. There is a great world to explore with interesting combat, if they ever improve the major issues with the game. It deserves no more than 0 until these issues are fixed.

They've done some things really well here, but others badly. I bumped this to an 9 since it's miles better than Shadowlands, but still has some serious problems. The new talents, professions, PVP gearing system and alt-friendly mechanics are all a welcome breath of fresh air. Classes are more fun to play than they have been in 10 years. The zones are far more beautiful and enjoyable than they were in Shadowlands. Dragon riding lets us get around quickly at the start of an expansion. Now the bad things. Evoker and Dracthyr are pointless. All Dracthyr are evokers, they can't be any other classes. I don't care what "lore" justification is used, it's only because they didn't want to spend time with other classes and animations. Transmog is also terrible on Dracthyr, again because of lack of time or laziness. Also the performance has been utterly awful in this expansion so far. Constant disconnects when landing a dragon, servers down, stuttering and lagging on Blizzard's end and not from the user's end. Performance still needs serious tweaking. The reputation grinding is pretty bad this expansion too, there's a lot of it. Also group loot is utterly terrible, no idea why they brought it back. Dungeons and raids are pretty "meh", same old thing nothing really improved or worth, so a neutral score there. Story also gets a "meh", I gave up caring about WoW's story after Legion. Also if the LGBTQ pandering that Blizzard is doing offends you, then you're just an easily triggered snowflake. It doesn't affect how good or bad the game is.

A fun, challenging (at times), Pokemon game with an addictive gameplay loop and an interesting system of fighting and catching Pokemon. It's a huge step in the right direction! The graphics, performance, and multiplayer options need work, but those are the only major flaws. The story, pacing, battles, catching mechanics, exploration, and general gameplay are such an improvement over Sword/Shield and Sun/Moon. There are major series changes that make big differences in quality of life, such as no limit to the number of moves a Pokemon can learn (they just have 4 memorized pre-battles) and not having to trade to evolve certain Pokemon anymore (using rare items on them instead). Exploration, crafting, gathering, and finding rare (and shiny) Pokemon have never been this fun. Gone is much of the tedium and boredom found in previous games. If you care only about graphics or online competitive battles, you will find reasons to not like this game. But if you're into the collecting aspect of Pokemon, you will love this. It's worth noting that the graphics and performance issues are much less noticeable when playing handheld.

Most of the high reviews are people who don't realize how bad endgame is. Sure the art, music, and leveling are awesome, as is the story. Blizzard has done a great job there, but they usually do. Where Blizzard has failed (and keeps failing, repeatedly) is in the design of classes and systems. Covenants are AWFUL. What a terrible idea on so many levels. Class design STILL ****. No matter how great the art and story are, it's an MMO and gameplay is the #1 most important thing. Just wait til endgame...

I couldn't get into this game when I played it on Wii, but now I love it. This edition is the best version of the game and has so many improvements. The UI is better, making the game much easier to understand and pick up, with less of a hurdle to overcome. Quest tracking makes the obscene number of side quests seem more reasonable. Appearance customization is awesome and tons of fun. The soundtrack is even better than before. The graphics aren't perfect on the Switch (not super high resolution) but they're still a huge step up from the original. Everything about this game is great. The biggest flaw is probably the annoying party AI. Other than that - great story, voice acting, combat, environments, exploration, etc. All the systems are well explained and are fun with nice UI (skills, arts, collectibles, affinities, etc.)

For once the review bombing is justified. They removed so many Pokemon because they claim they didn't have the resources to dedicate to integrating the full Pokedex. Okay, I was disappointed but not too upset. However, they justified this by saying it would give them more time and energy to devote to making the game much better in other aspects, such as revolutionary gameplay. Uh, none of that is here. This game is worse than X/Y, ORAS, S/M, AND without over half the Pokemon! Where is the "revolutionary" part? It's not like we're getting an open world Pokemon game. This whole thing is a huge disappointment. Mediocre game with at least the full Pokedex would've been fine. Instead we got a mediocre game without a large number of the best Pokemon and moves... X/Y was much more 'revolutionary' than this with new things features that were actually very nice, like Wonder Trade. Also "gigantamax" is just plain silly, and even worse than Z-Moves. Gamefreak needs more ambitious management, it would seem... I would've been fine waiting another full year for a better game.

Amazing building system with a lot of explore and to do. The first part of the game is slow but it gets continuously better. Dialogue is a massive slog, but can be skimmed through to get the gist of things. Controls are not perfect but you do get used to them. The thing that makes this game shine is the exploration, gathering, and building, which are fantastic. There's an insane amount of customization, and managing your citizens within your buildings/towns is the icing on the cake. Definitely one of the best implementations of gathering/building (Minecraft/Lego style) to date. I'm normally a handheld guy but I recommend this one on PS4 as the performance on Switch is pretty bad.

Should've been part of the main game but I see the fact that it was DLC as a good thing, they were able to invest more time and make it a truly epic end to the game instead of half-assed due to time constraints which would've likely been the case had it not been separate.

This version has added a lot for the Sony crowd (mod support, albeit limited; improved sound; improved graphics; better performance; etc) It's a great buy for a first-time Skyrim player, probably not worth $60 for someone coming back to the game again, but wait for a price drop and it will be worth it. From someone new to the series who has never played an Age of Wonders game: I absolutely love this game. It seems really underrated to me but that could be because of differences between this one and the older games, which I've never played. The campaigns are really fun; I usually hate campaigns in strategy games but this game actually has really enjoyable campaigns with great voice acting, fun little storylines and beautiful artwork. It's also quite atmospheric and the music is mostly really nice (a couple of obnoxious songs but many great ones, too). AoW 3 is quite charming. I enjoy exploring the map, finding items, and working on building up my hero/leader. The customization for leaders is superb and there are so many different spells, abilities, items, etc. Tactical, turn based combat is amazingly fun. The option to automate it when you don't feel like doing it is also nice. The exploration sites are especially fun because they are usually in unique battlefield locations (castles, dungeons, etc.) and involve 6v6 balanced battles that end up being very well balanced and challenging. The game is not without some minor flaws (e.g., tech tree implemented poorly and you can't see the progression, etc.) and city building is so-so, but there aren't any major issues that break the game and overall it's a blast to play. I have so much fun just playing around with all the different classes, spells, etc., finding items, exploring the map, and enjoying the tactical battles.

Let me start off by saying I've never played a tile-based, classic dungeon crawler such as this before. I do like some older games such as Baldur's Gate but have not played Wizardry or the like. I wasn't sure what to expect but I am blown away. I can't believe how good the game is. The puzzles are fun and mostly make sense (a few exceptions where I thought they were poorly done and too convoluted). The combat is challenging but not that hard on easy as long as you read about the classes before making your party (taking an alchemist makes the game much easier). The boss fights are so much fun, probably my favorite part of the game. The environments and atmosphere are impressive. The music is unbelievable, frankly couldn't believe how amazing the music was in this game (especially the last 2 boss fights and credits music). It sounds like Lord of the Rings meets Star Wars meets Pirates of the Caribbean. The character creation and customization is great. I can't WAIT to see what they have in store for Grimrock 3 (I'm assuming they'll make one!!) I'm hoping for even better environments, more balanced combat, and more classes.

Oct 30, 2014
If you've never played Icewind Dale at all, see the last part of my review for an explanation of what to expect with the game. First, I'll start with a review of the enhancement. This is a beautiful enhancement to an awesome game. It contains all of the expansions and content from Icewind Dale, plus some more. I know that many critics and users will complain, as always, that it doesn't add enough content to warrant the $20 price tag. I disagree ($20 is not expensive for a game) and IWD adds even more than BG1 and BG2 enhanced editions did. It's very similar to the latter two games, but since Icewind Dale originally didn't have very many class choices, you're given all of the kits from BG2 plus a few new ones. The new quests and content add about ~6 hours of play (there are $20 games out there that take this amount of time to beat) and much of it is drawn from deleted content that never launched with the original game, which is awesome to see, as a fan of IWD! The UI is beautiful. I have experienced no bugs at all and everything is running flawlessly. The release of the game came quickly and as a surprise. **************************************************************************************************** IWD AS A GAME, WHAT TO EXPECT: Icewind Dale is a Dungeons and Dragons-based, isometric RPG that uses the Infinity Engine, with a combat system similar to Dragon Age: Origins. It is like Baldur's Gate but at the same time, very different. Icewind Dale is not dialogue heavy. In fact, there's very little dialogue, although the small amount that exists is well-written. The plot IS good but it is rather straightforward and basic, with a couple of twists towards the end. The game has very little city exploration or party banter. What it does have is the following: superb music, incredible atmosphere, top-notch level/dungeon design, beautiful artwork, extremely high replay value, a sense of adventure and wonder, and strategic, fun, challenging combat. The beauty of the game comes from the music, art and design. The fun of the game comes from two things: (1) combat - wish very well-designed fights that require placement, strategy and planning and can be very rewarding on higher difficulties; (2) party creation. If you HATE creating full parties and spending hours thinking about how your party will work, this is probably not the game for you. If you don't hate that, it's a lot of fun and adds a ton of replay value. If you're one of those people who hates being given "premade" characters that you can't customize or build from scratch, THIS is the game for you. You get 6 party member slots. You can decide how to play the game in whatever way you want. Solo with a sorcerer? Play with 6 archers? Duo with a 'decoy'/'tank' and healer? Make an all-evil party? An all-good party? A mixed party? Sure, you don't get the party banter of Baldur's Gate, but there's so much freedom. You can name all of your characters and make them from scratch, gear them up, give them different stats so that they work well together. I have spent hours devising ways to create an effective party, e.g., 2 melee, 2 casters, 2 decoy/tanks, or a mix of classes (multiclassing/dual classing is one of the best parts of D&D). If this appeals to you, it can be SO MUCH FUN.

There's very little you can do to customize your house. The locations are boring and you cannot change them. Gathering materials is a pain in the butt, just cheat them in, seriously. This is that one game that I'll always love and will never get old. It's the one game I can keep coming back to when every other game bores me. With mods on the PC version and the ability to customize so much in the game, from graphics to characters and quests, there's endless content here. Yes, Skyrim has a lot of bugs, and it is a shame. However, that's the only negative thing I can think of and after patching, they're minimized. Plus, on PC they're not as big of an issue (console fix). The biggest thing that Skyrim has done better than its predecessors is offer the most superb level design and environments, far better than Oblivion and Morrowind's repetitive dungeons that all look the same. Even the draugr crypts in Skyrim have unique layouts, unique stories, NPCs, etc. The only repetitive aspect is that they're filled with draugr. I'm amazed how many dungeons are in this game and how beautifully crafted they all are. The outdoor environments are great, too. Combat is so much better than previous games. Music is fantastic (as always for ES games), graphics are better and mind blowing with mods enabled. Dialogue isn't the greatest but is still an improvement over past games. Quests are mixed - I would say this is one area where the series didn't really improve, but they're still good and some of them (e.g., Thieve's Guild) are a lot of fun. The lore of the game, as always, is enchanting. I love reading all of the books, some of them are so well-written, clever and adventurous. Skyrim has everything you could want in a single-player RPG. Open world, exploration, immersion, beauty, roleplaying potential, fun combat (mostly), customization, some clever quest subplots, great lore, the list goes on. Truly a magical game that will probably never be matched, until ES:6 comes out.

This game left a bad taste in my mouth, sadly. It started out great. The music on the title screen was superb and the graphics were beautiful. The environments throughout the first half of the game were awe-inspiring. The aspect of controlling both brothers at once was annoying at times but not too bothersome. I'm still not a fan of that aspect overall, though. At first, I thought "wow, this will be a great game for my nephew, he will love this" until it suddenly turned teen rated (maybe even mature) halfway through, which was unnecessary. Still, I was really enjoying the exploration/journey, it felt so magical. However, the last 1/4 of the game ruined it for me. There was no climax, which I was expecting. I imagined this massive tree that would eventually appear in some grand valley, etc. but that was not the case. The ending just came out of nowhere and was very dull. I did not like the overly dramatic seriousness of it. I actually quit the game out of frustration due to a glitch during the very last cinematic and never went back to watch it again. When I first fired it up, I thought, 'wow, this looks promising!' The music was nice, the interface was improved and it was much faster than the previous games. Create-a-Sim looked good, too (at first). Then, I started to realize that this game just isn't that good. Create-a-Sim is a disappointment compared to previous games. There's no color wheel and there aren't even many colors to choose from. There just aren't a lot of options and I had significantly more trouble getting my Sims to not look the same, even with the adjustments of facial features (which actually aren't that great because they are very limited). The game feels like a Sims game but it's missing a LOT. Not just content such as pools, outfits, colors, etc. but gameplay and options. The options are practically nonexistent. The camera doesn't work that well and there are zero options to adjust it! Have they never heard of options in video games? Overall, I'm just not a fan of this. It's a Sims game with better coding but 1/4 the amount of options and it brings very little to the table in terms of new or original content, just multitasking and emotions. Not worth the money.

The story is addicting, with cliff hangers at the end of each episode and a lot of plot twists. Let me make something clear: this is NOT "Baldur's Gate 3". It is nothing like Baldur's Gate. Pillars of Eternity is the game that is striving to be like the Infinity Engine classics. Divinity: Original Sin is more like Diablo with turn-based combat. It's not a terrible game but I'm left feeling unimpressed. Music is okay. A few songs are gorgeous (e.g. character creation music) but many are forgettable and dull. The opening cinematic was cheesy. Environmental graphics are nice but the level design is a bit repetitive and I don't feel the urge to explore the world because it's not a very exciting one. Character models are hideous and the character creation is very basic. You'd think that in a game where you create two characters at the start, it wouldn't be this way. I had a lot of trouble attempting to get my male wizard to not look like an identical twin of my male warrior. I'm not impressed by the class system. It doesn't have anywhere near the depth of D&D games like NWN, where you have ability points, feats, skill points, spells/abilities, and various unique classes that can be combined in any way. Instead, you just have class 'names' which attempt to make the game look as if there are classes, which there aren't, really. You just pick a few skills and build your own character from scratch. The limited skills are VERY much like D3/WoW and NOTHING like the Forgotten Realms games. I don't feel myself enjoying the dialogue as much as PS:T, NWN or BG. It's not as well-written and a lot of it is filler/boring. Still, it's not -that- bad. I'll say that the game is somewhat charming and the turned-based combat can be fun/creative, but overall it doesn't deserve the high ratings that it's getting.

One of the best, if not the best, Final Fantasy games. This is the only FF game I keep coming back to play over and over again, simply because of how good it is. It's very refreshing to get away from the more futuristic theme of the previous few Final Fantasy games and go back to the medieval fantasy setting. The FMVs are, IMO, the best in the Final Fantasy series, with many neat things happening in them such as battles and summons. The combat is rather simple but still addicting. I love how each character is completely unique, instead of being able to make them all pretty much exactly the same such as in 8 or 10. The passive abilities still allow for a degree of strategy and customization, though they can break the game at times. The characters are very well developed with unique personalities and none of them are boring or dull (such as Vaan in 12) - you either love or hate 'em. The dialogue is the best in the series and is a pleasure to read. The story is fantastic. It is presented and executed perfectly. At the beginning it doesn't seem to have much direction (stealing a princess why?) but everything falls into place throughout the game and is unraveled perfectly, with few to no plot holes or questions left unanswered. It is quite a journey filled with humor, drama, romance and excitement. The music is amazing but this is always the case in Final Fantasy games (with Nobuo Uematsu). The spell animations are gorgeous and some of the best in the series - e.g. flare and doomsday. The only thing I don't like about this Final Fantasy is that it tends to have some balancing issues. Some fights are very difficult while many others are a total joke.

An amazing and high quality (!) remake to one of the last great games of the Final Fantasy series. The graphics are superb and absolutely beautiful on the Vita. The sound quality is top notch, especially with headphones on. The game has a few nice, additional touches, such as standard vs expert sphere grid (not on NA version of the PS2 game) and is perfect for both those who have played the game before and those who never have. My review doesn't even include the fact that it has 2 games for the price of 1, mainly because I do not like FFX-2 at all. For those that do like it, though, it's an extra perk! Now we just need a remake like this for Dragon Quest 8 and FF12.

I'm giving it a 10 because FF Tactics deserves no less. HOWEVER, I really do not like this remake. They did a better job with the Tactics Ogre remake. I would rather play the PS One Classic than this. Some sound quality issues are present and can be noticed when compared to playing the original (e.g. on Vita). I don't like the writing style at all. Whoever they hired to write the new translation needs to never write dialogue again. I actually prefer the Engrish of the original game to this verbose crap that they call good dialogue. I get what they were going for (medieval feel) but it's annoying, confusing and feels corny. Still, same game with same plot, music and mechanics, so I have to give it a 10, because FFT is still amazing.

Meh... At first, I loved this game to death. I thought it was amazing. The voice acting and dialogue are superb, as is the plot. It makes you feel attached to the characters (especially April) and really whisks you away. However, after a while, it started to feel like a chore, as if I was playing it just to see what happened, not because it was still fun (it wasn't). The puzzles are often silly and arcane. The game is VERY slow-paced and honestly the plot could have been told in 15 hours instead of 40 hours. Much of the game consists of doing filler quests - finding items and solving strange puzzles. Also, the insanely slow pace with which characters move (even with the escape key) and sometimes forces you to watch them to stupid things, such as take out a pipe and smoke it, then put it back, becomes annoying after a while.

Blech. So much potential but it falls flat on its face. Annoying controls (I really don't want to have to buy an accessory just to make the controls semi-tolerable), slow and clunky (would expect an action game to be fast-paced), excruciatingly repetitive, frustrating (monsters run away and hide, gotta find them, oops out of time, try again!), graphics aren't sharp on 3DS, takes to long to accomplish anything worthwhile, etc etc. If you're really into hardcore games then try Dark Souls or something. At least that game has depth. MH3U is shallow.

Definitely a fun experience for those who like this kind of game. It reminds me a lot of old dungeons and dragons. You navigate your way through dungeons, stumbling across numerous secrets and threats. You create, customize, and manage your entire party (this is not a story-driven or character-driven game). A lot of strategy involved in equipping your party, classing/sub-classing, and assigning skill points. The game also provides numerous playstyle options for people to choose between - e.g. draw your own map (for a more classic dungeon crawler experience) or DON'T. You can have the map auto-drawn (it's clear that the negative reviews complaining about map drawing didn't play much of the game). Casual vs. normal difficulty is nice, as well. Great music, pretty graphics, overall a very polished game. Not everyone's cup of tea, but if you like old school RPGs this sort of has that feel to it. It's easy to get into and overall a lot of fun.

One of the best, if not the best, Pokemon games to date. I was pretty unimpressed by recent titles, with the exception of the amazing HeartGold and SoulSilver, but this game really delivers. There are so many Pokemon that even if you prefer the older generation(s) you will have no problem getting ahold of a really cool team of your favorites. The game is very long even though it's only 8 gyms. There is so much side content, it never seems to end. The Wonder Trade feature is an absolute blast! Really just a huge improvement to the series with this game in almost every way.

Not sure I understand the appeal of this game, aside from being free (well, mostly). At first, it seemed really fun. Hundreds of champions to experiment with? Awesome! Strategic multiplayer battles? Fun! Then I realized after playing for a while that all of the champions were pretty much the same damn thing with different colored lights coming out of their hands/swords/guns/etc. The only real difference is that some are stronger/weaker than others, so they're imbalanced, which shouldn't be the case in a game such as this. Also, the same two maps over and over again? Grinding the same map(s), with similar characters, over and over again, for weeks, in order to level up, in order to do the same thing again, endlessly, all with a bunch of whiny, immature brats? HOW can anyone play this game for more than a few weeks? *Boggle*

I'm not sure how Frictional could have been satisfied with releasing this game. Maybe it was The Chinese Room's influence? First of all, it removes a lot of the mechanics of The Dark Descent e.g. lantern with limited fuel, tinders, inventory, sanity, picking up most objects, HIDING IN CABINETS... In return, we get nothing. Typically when a company develops another game in a series they remove some features but add new ones that are supposed to be better. Not this time, apparently. The limited light fuel in TDD was great because it added another layer of suspense (the fear that you would run out of light and be stuck in the horrifying dark with monsters). Hiding in the cabinets was awesome.... I was expecting all of these old suspenseful features plus, ya know, NEW ones. Not the removal of the good stuff. Second, the game is NOT SCARY... When you see the first pig monster, you may think it is going to be frightening. Until you actually see it up close. WTF? Isn't this supposed to be a horror game? Then why did they take what looks like an undead dog with a pig head attached to it and call it a monster? There was so much freaky concept art out there with a lot of potential... The monsters also move slowly and behave predictably. They're not scary, just annoying to maneuver around. Last, it runs like crap. I can run nearly any game maxed out on my rig with no issues but Machine was giving me limitless problems (screen tearing, stuttering, etc). When I turned the graphics down, it got worse and ended up looking like the original Doom. The only positive things I have to say about Machine for Pigs are that the plot is somewhat interesting and that they (mostly) removed that blinding white light that kept flashing across the screen in The Dark Descent (which was hard on the eyes in the dark). Music is also nice. Kudos to the composer. Overall, not worthy of being called an Amnesia game.

Sadly, very disappointed by this game. It's just not the fusion between DQ VIII and Miyazaki that I thought it would be. The music and art are phenomenal, but the gameplay is bland and repetitive. It becomes extremely predictable go to a major city to do something, find out that ruler of city has issues, do some chores, fix his issues, move on to the next city. It's the same thing over, and over, and over again. Horrible design. The combat also gets old with the horrific UI and ability to only control one character. It didn't work well in Rogue Galaxy (despite how much I loved that game) and it was even worse here. I just couldn't push myself to finish the game, even though the plot was cute and interesting.

Even over 10 years later and as a graduate student this game is still addicting. Video games aren't what they used to be and it has been many years since I've been truly addicted to and/or immersed in a video game (the only other one has been Skyrim). When I picked this game up I didn't get bored of it until over 100 hours in (who would think that a DS game or a Pokemon game could hold my attention that long?) It's not just a remake of a fantastic game, but a whole new experience with many new Pokemon to catch and an abundance of side content and additional features a must buy if you have ever liked Pokemon video games.

Just another WoW clone with a few improvements... sure the voice acting and cut scenes are great, but that gets old after a while. If you're already burned out of WoW, you'll burn yourself out of this pretty quickly as well. When will we have a new MMO that's not just a copy off of its predecessors?
