One of the best RPGs I've played. I find the combat a lot of fun, I only wish there was more of it. You can spend literally hours upon hours simply roaming the towns, talking to NPCs, accepting quests, running errands etc. You don't really get too much action until you get to the Deep Roads. Sure the story is overall good and characters interesting, but at the end of the day the political "intrigue" is kinda boring, as I found myself time and again wishing I was fighting monsters instead of talking or running errands for some dwarf lord. Gaps between longer periods of fighting can be up to 6 hours long, not even kidding. Granted there are a few moments/plot twists that had me genuinely amazed and some of the choices you need to make can be very difficult to do, but overall I think that the story and historical background lack some form of epicness, there's just too much political stuff there I feel. At the same time there are seemingly endless branching dialogue options and almost all of them have unique responses from NPCs, it's absolutely massive. The environments themselves are very restrictive and not interconnected like in open world RPGs. What's nonrestrictive though is the way the game allows you to interact with NPCs - want to be an **** - you can be one. Or maybe you want to be a neckbeard white knight who always does what's noble and right - you can do that. Over time you will grow attached to your characters and will enjoy their random banters as well as their personal stories and dialogues. I only wish there was more gear as my character used 3 or 4 different bows throughout the whole play-through which is a big negative to me because I love gear upgrades and lots of them. Overall this is a great RPG that has its flaws but with patience you'll find that it has more to offer than appears at the first glance. A must-play for any RPG enthusiast for sure!

Total War: Attila

Attila Total War is a polished and improved version of Rome 2. At least in most areas. Positive: (+)Visually pleasant (+)No more of the bland and boring Rome 2 UI (+)Building and unit cards no longer generic and confusing (+)40 unit cards fit in a single row (+)Battles are overall fun (+)Cavalry charges are more impactful and don't look as bad as in Rome 2 (+)Flaming torches are gone (+)Walled settlements look great, any town can be upgraded to have walls (+)Battle AI is more aggressive on flanking (+)Return of the family tree with some cool options, like assassinate your own subjects, even your faction leader, and appoint whatever heir you want (+)Politics are easier to understand and manage (+)City building and food system makes sense and is interesting to fiddle with Negative: (-)Poor optimization, low performance especially on AMD side (-)Some things are still counter-intuitive in the UI (-)Unit stats are still too cumbersome to read and compare between units (-)Unit status still crammed into a single blinking icon (-)Unit flags replaced with generic red and yellow squares (-)Battles need balancing, for example phalanxes are not deadly enough, you can charge right into them without worries, the low-ish morale makes otherwise lengthy melee engagements end prematurely which also causes battles to be rather short (-)Still no optional Guard mode (-)Overall units still feel a bit weightless and collisions tend to end abruptly, it is too easy to disengage from melee (-)Towers collapse instead of being captured in sieges. Don't understand why capturing them was removed... (-)Battle AI is still bad overall, battles lack real challenge unless played on high difficulties where the AI gets stats buffs (-)The same battle system as in Rome 2 - units have more than 1 health point (up to several hundred for certain units) and can get hit multiple times before dying. Therefore, when you first attack a unit, it will "absorb" the incoming damage until it actually becomes vulnerable (health is brought down to low values). This sometimes makes for some awkward and unnatural situations where a cavalry charge will cause no casualties or missiles will take a few volleys before they start inflicting damage. Defending is based on two stats - melee defense and armor, none of which block a set amount of damage but are rather based on a chance to completely avoid the damage (in the case of melee defense) and a CHANCE to block a certain amount of damage, which can be anything from 0% to 100% depending on stats (in the case of armour). There needs to be a hard cap for high armour that always blocks a certain amount of damage. There is no such cap in this game and that is why things like Testudo and Cataphracts are not as powerful against missiles as they should be - because there is usually some normal damage and AP damage hitting them no matter what. You can up the useless armour stat to 10000, they will still get chopped up by missiles due to their AP damage. This is somewhat balanced out with the unnatural health system. Still I feel like the old system was overall better and more consistent and easier to balance. More complex doesn't always equal better and this is one of those cases. (-)Ultimately the politics system still doesn't add that much to the game. When your empire grows large enough at some point managing your subjects becomes convoluted and bothersome and you no longer care as much. Having several characters with identical names doesn't help in this regard as well and it happens way too often in some of my campaigns. (-)Overall the difficulty of campaign is still low (-)Campaign AI is extremely passive - never sieges your towns, never resettles desolate regions, never presents big enough threats, large empires never form to hinder your progress, by turn 50 you're the strongest faction but the rest of the map is still fragmented and weak. (-)Campaign AI doesn't know when to use razing properly. It gets abused way too much. (-)No option to trade regions in diplomacy. (-)When your empire gets large enough, you begin to suffer a diplomatic penalty with almost all factions from being a "Great power", which is annoying because it makes it very difficult to keep good relations with your puppet states or allies, and in higher difficulties you need to constantly bribe them to keep them in check which can be very tedious. It's not as effective as Realm Divide and therefore not as fun or challenging. It just adds to the tedium without accomplishing anything meaningful. (-)Long loading screen and turn times. (-)Campaign variety seems unimpressive, there are the Eastern tribes, the Romans, the Northmen and the rest of the world is Germanic. This will be mended with DLCs, no doubt. Verdict: If they fix performance and the AI (both seem unlikely at this stage), this game will be a solid 9/10. For now, as things stand, I give it 7/10 which is generous enough.

Pros: + Many ways to build a character + Tons of available skills and items to build around + Some very complex and deep game mechanics not seen in other popular RPG titles + The gameplay is fun and gambling with RNG can be very addictive + Regular updates with new content, races and cool prizes + Free to play Cons: - Graphics and effects can feel a bit dated compared to some other RPGs - Don't expect a breathtaking storyline with interesting dialogues and character development. This game is about building a character and hacking through piles of brainless monsters as efficiently as possible. - Playing the same character gets boring after a while - once you acquire your end-game gear and level all your skills gems, there is not much left to do but farm maps and try to acquire more wealth. - The level of micro-management and skill that is required in the combat is comparatively low (exceptions are a few end-game bosses). - The RNG of drops or crafting luck can sometimes feel unfair - Desync problems can be very punishing for some people The pros in my opinion outweigh the cons. Definitely a game you should try if you like old school hack and slash RPGs such as Diablo 2 and its various clones. For me it took 2 years of playing to finally get bored and move on to something else.

I've played this game for two days now and feel like I can give an honest impression if not a proper review. I have never played Dead Island so I am a clean slate in that regard. I find this game extremely fun. Yes. the gameplay is not very complex but it's polished and fluid and feels very satisfying. Running around, jumping from one rooftop to another never gets old to me and zombie encounters are always exciting and dangerous, especially during nighttime when the game switches its genre to horror. No joke, the stuff that crawls out there during nighttime will make you s***t your pants. Like others have mentioned, the story isn't particularly exciting, but in my opinion is passable enough and even good at certain points. And yes, I am also having significant frame drops. Playing on medium settings I get 15-20 FPS in the worst parts of the city, which is bad but I can accept it for now. I am starting to notice certain patterns though, like the the same buildings that you scavenge for goods and certain elements of interior are encountered a bit too frequently and I start think 'wait, haven't I been here already?', but in fact it's a different place with the same looks. The city does feel very big though and I can't really blame the developers for having filler content here and there. Although I can already sense how it will eventually become boring to me and I will move on to something else, the game is still very fun and enjoyable to me and I expect I will finish the storyline before that happens.

I disliked the game because of the combat mostly. It just feels so weird and fake compared to the older titles (Medieval 2, Rome I). I can't really put my finger on it, but the battles just feel bad, the blobbing, the collisions, nothing feels or looks good... In M2 when your cav charged into the flanks of the enemy army, it felt impactful and snappy. In this game it looks very week and not epic in any way whatsoever. Also, the AI acts very weirdly sometimes and generally feels like no progress has been done in that regard. All in all, not feeling this installation of TW.

My favorite hack and slash RPG simply because of the memories it brings back. The combat is relatively simple and the required skill is not high at all. In fact, the game can feel a bit too easy at times and even the boss fights are not challenging at all. But I love it nonetheless, because it is a game that has a soul. I love the beautiful environments, the story and the lore, I love the many of the clever little secrets, puzzles, hidden treasures, secret rooms and easter eggs. The soundtrack is beautiful, everything about this game just brings back pleasant memories to me. ^^

A lot of the problems of the port are gone! There is a mod that fixes the camera (my biggest issue actually), the resolution and even improves the visuals - the game actually looks better than on consoles. The controls are not bad, really. Yeah, it will take a while to get used to if you're new to the game, but honestly, it's not that bad. The game is perfectly playable with keyboard and mouse, and I actually prefer it over a controller. If you don't believe me, look up "Dark Souls Mouse Fix". It makes the camera control with the mouse super smooth. In fact, in my personal experience keyboard+mouse controls are more precise that those of controllers. As far as the game itself, there is not much to say asides from it being a complete masterpiece. Fun and addictive combat. Mysterious, dark atmosphere, cool environments. And an intriguing storyline, the presentation of which is very, very unique. The game is very challenging, and yeah, some aspects of it can be quite difficult, especially if you're new to the game. In short, an amazing, epic journey that you will not easily forget. Getting used to the somewhat untraditional keyboard controls is IMO a small sacrifice for the privilege of experiencing this masterpiece.

To address the critics below: The game can be demanding on older systems, but runs flawlessly on mine (Phenom II 965, HD 7850). CTDs are rare, but can happen. I haven't had one for a very long time, though. And the always online DRM is no longer forced (can be disabled in Uplay settings), the only thing that requires internet connection is a couple seconds of synchronizing save games with the server. My review: The best and most immersive submarine simulator currently on the market (at this stage it is IMO better than SH3 and SH4). After suffering bad reviews after a buggy launch, the game has been greatly improved by tons of community mods that have made this game a very fun and addictive experience. I would say that around 90% of the bugs have been ironed out since the release. Some minor annoyances are still present, but it's nothing compared to the stock game (which is a buggy mess to put it mildly). If you are a beginner, search youtube for: How to install SH5 Mods Beginner Tutorial. The strength of this game is the simulation aspect, which this game does on a very high level. Certain realism mods (like real navigation) add to this aspect so much, that it is easy to forget you are playing a video game, that's how good it simulates sub control. There are many different ways to calculate attack solutions on ships, this freedom is what makes it so believable. Flexibility is another important aspect. Don't want to play with perfect realism? No problem, you can change your settings to have an almost casual point-and-shoot gameplay. If you want just a moderate amount of realism settings, you can have that. Almost every function and setting imaginable can be tweaked and adjusted with mods or in-game settings. To summarize, Silent Hunter 5 is not for the impatient, but don't let that stop you, because it offers one of the most rewarding gameplay experiences I have ever seen in a video game

Without giving anything away, this game is very unique and will f*** with your mind at first. It has some funny moments and references. You will play it for max 2 hours and it has 0 replay value once you've finish it all, but it deserves to be played at least once by everybody. A fun, entertaining little game.

Pros: + Rich atmosphere, great audio and visual effects + It does a lot of things right, compared to previous titles + Amazing modding support Cons: There are plenty, but I won't even discuss them because most of them have been fixed by mods. Seriously, other gaming studios should learn from Bethesda it doesn't matter if you release a flawed game, if you also provide great modding support, all will be forgiven and forgotten. Everything, from core game mechanics to visuals and completely new content, has been introduced/changed/fixed by modders. Without them, this game would be a '6' that would have been already forgotten by now, but now it's a game that will be loved and talked about for years and years to come!
