I expected a bad game (since it has 2.3 User Score on this website). But honestly, it's a pretty good Battlefield game. It has some of the most visually pleasing maps I've ever seen in the franchise. Both because the graphics are realistic, but also because the idyllic settings (old romantic towns or colorful fields or snow-covered maps), environments that feel easy on the eyes as if it was a virtual travel catalogue. The gameplay has some new aspects and tweaks on the formula, one of the most annoying being how to enter vehicles (you actually have to stand next to the door in order to enter a vehicle through that door). The 'Firestorm' game mode was completely abandoned when I tried searching for a session. So don't buy Battlefield V expecting to play Firestorm.

The combat is repetitive. The puzzles are stupid. The overall story is predictable (except when it presents new pointless twists to prevent the player from reaching the main objective too fast in the game). The enemies are the same throughout the game, with some new skin to provide "variety". The gameplay is a mix of uninspired combat and fetch quests and those stupid puzzles (that a monkey could solve) as well as some climbing, in case you didn't grow tired of that in the Uncharted series. The only really strong and innovative aspects of this game are the Norse mythology concept and the art direction. The game world is pretty amazing too, with good enough graphics to impress.

I enjoyed the campaign, and the time I spent online did NOT feel like a pay-to-win game. A lot of users have pointed out that pay-to-win ruined this game, but I didn't feel like it was a big deal. There are game modes for both spaceship battles and a heroes vs. villains mode, as well as the classic modes like team deathmatch and a game mode where you try to capture objectives, just like in Battlefield. The only reason I don't score the game higher is that there are so many games like this one already. It doesn't really stand out and doesn't take chances. And pay-to-win is a huge problem, although I didn't feel it impacted my play sessions.

The combat fills up a major portion of the game with dull and repetitive action. Open-world tasks are varied enough with, for example, doves to catch, and other varied content. But the combat is also a massive part of the side content in the open-world. And the combat is so repetitive. The main campaign has its moments, but mostly it shifts between combat and stealth or exploration. Sometimes the game serves up a chase or web-swinging action, these sequences are welcome. The graphics are amazing, especially when the sun reflects in **** and the whole bustling city feels alive and worth exploring. But most likely, what you find around the corner is yet another combat scene.

Make sure you try the Discovery Tour mode. It allows the player to roam around and initiate some well-made tours of ancient Egypt. The tours each have several stops or stations where you get information on an aspect of ancient Egypt. For example, at the great library of Alexandria, you can take a tour with a dozen or so stops and at each stop you get a relevant image from a museum along with spoken text or anecdotes about the library. It's awesome and included free of charge in the game. Oh yeah, the game is pretty awesome. The game world is impressive and interesting to explore.

The song list seems overwhelming and not as well-picked as in the PS3 games. It's like they threw every possible song in the game and counted on players to find their favorites among the many songs. I preferred the PS3 games as they felt like "Best of"-compilations with interesting visuals. The action on screen is not as well made in this newer game, because they couldn't possibly make a real well-crafted music video for each song since there are too many. More importantly, the motivation one got from chasing the Platinum-trophy is gone since there isn't a Platinum for this game. I think the journey towards Platinum in PS3 games was superior to the massive load of songs in this package.

As a fairy tale, it tried exceptionally hard to bring an interesting "punchline idea"... and it sort of did, but was also empty? I don't know? A super fascinating game... if you ignore THE actual GAMEPLAY. Despite similarities to the decent puzzle-game ICO, this newer game has mostly dumbed down the gameplay that it was supposed to update and exceed. A lot of climbing sections and QTE-like "Epic Scripted Events" feel like they are trying to copy the action from Uncharted 2. There's really no minimum age for grasping the puzzles in this game, only for coping with the nightmarish enemies and the frustrating obtuse interactions with the AI companion. The "artistic" concept and fascinating experience do not make up for the basic formulaic gameplay sections, and forum-discussions reveal that few have even understood what the abstract story was about. Maybe the developer just doesn't care about being understood. PROTIP: Before instructing the game's AI, there must be 1 press of the same button, to call for AI attention. Then, when the AI companion responds visibly, it can receive 1 instruction. If the button is pressed additional times, or even gets spammed or smashed (as players throw controllers in utter frustration) then the AI gets "confused" and the player will not enjoy that moment.

It's a blast. Apart from smooth core gameplay, there's extra content like ALL the cutscenes from the entire TEKKEN series, unlockable for in-game currency. TEKKEN 7 qualifies as one of the definitive fighting games of all time. But the genre could benefit from new inventions to provide motivation for more replayability. Tournaments could be divided into national and international and by age-groups, there could be medals and in-game statuettes for tournaments. Or maybe an unlockable bazooka for single-player modes, or a "rhythm fight" mode where opponents basically dance against each other. Or an RPG-inspired hungry-meter and fighter-management system, where every fighter must be kept happy and well-fed like violent Tamagotchis. Anything to round out the core gameplay with more dimensions.

Battlefield 4 was the series' definitive masterpiece so far, but Battlefield 1 can be very impressive and engrossing, even without helicopters and Jetskis. The 20 extra maps from DLC, included in Revolution pack, add hugely to the initial map offerings. Battlefield Revolution is one of the largest-scale FPS games on PS4, and the hectic multiplayer can keep you addicted for 100 hours or more. The WW1 theme really fascinated me, with gorgeously detailed weapons, vehicles and military bases, and a decently well-made WW1 campaign for solo offline play. Apr 8, 2018
Creative enough to appeal to genre fans. The cheery presentation and characters deserved a more fun game. For example, I laughed out loud at my own frustrations during a mini-game about driving a mine kart through an obstacle course. The minigame was reused five times in the game, one of which had a bossfight locked away behind the minigame. So I had to beat it although I wanted to ragequit and get rid of the Yooka Laylee disc. The minigame exemplifies much of the annoyances with the overall game. It looks like fun, and it should be fun... but somehow, it's just tweaked a bit towards annoying the player. When it works and it doesn't annoy, then there are some great moments of basic platforming fun. But the joys are spread thin and the game has a lot of backtracking and confusingly laid-out mission 'hunt'... where the player can go look for next mission, but find that it requires better power-ups, only to have to return to earlier levels and try to find something there, and then traverse all the way back to newer levels with the required power-ups... etc.. I see no reason why the game shouldn't have been a linear, laser-tight experience without the gimmicky filler content. The game has enough ideas for an epic campaign, but the gameplay is spread out in a slightly confusing way, and technically the game does not assist the player in an enjoyable way, rather it can sabotage some moments spread throughout the game. I fondly remember Banjo-Kazooie, and Goldeneye... but it seems like the classic studio took a long time off and didn't keep their skills sharp... so naturally when they reunited to build Yooka Laylee, their resources didn't really fit the ambitions very well. It's a pretty long game, at 15+ hours for reaching the final boss. Getting there requires 100 small missions/tasks. I spent the last few hours of my game time 'scrambling' for decently fun missions to beat. It didn't get too stale or desperate... but I did feel the good content was already used and the only option was to think strategically about where the last few good missions could hide.

Among the best online games on PS4. Siege feels like the most creative and intelligent FPS game in many years. The gadgets are interesting to try out for various characters, and the short round-based matches combined with ranked online play, it feels like virtual sports... like something that wont turn boring. One big gripe is that the main gamemodes (hostage extraction, bomb defuse...)... every session easily turns into standard death match... so effectively, you're just playing team death match over-and-over, with an optional hostage to extract or whatever. The game would benefit hugely from an ultra-varied set of extra game modes, like a sniper-only game mode on open field, or something similarly bizarre.

Core gameplay feels like a simpler version of Bayonetta or Metal Gear Rising. The storyline is has a lot of fetch-quests and open-world travelling "from point A to point B" with minimal input required from the gamer, apart from pressing forward and run button. The story is quite involved and intelligently done. It didn't blow my mind, but at least it explored some of the big themes of existence a bit. I mean, that's a big deal in video games. Even if it feels slightly gimmicky. There's a famous in-game performance of 'Romeo and Juliet' that I looked forward to. But it was just silly joke. Didn't even pretend or try to live up to Shakespeare's play. I file Nier Automata under 'Japanese Sci-fi Action' and say it succeeded at what it tried to do. It's just not much more than entertainment, and certainly not as high-brow or philosophical as some people claim. And the gameplay is not as innovative or groundbreaking as I expected. At no point did it make me go "Wait, a game can do THAT?!". It does mix up various mini-games, but Final Fantasy had mini-games too. It didn't blow my mind in either series. I did actually play through the entire game and got the credits-mini-game. I invested plenty of time and consideration for the game, but it's just not the mind-blowing game that I expected. Also, it seems they adjusted the health-bar so that soldiers die faster from less damage. So there are few real shootouts, more instant deaths just when an enemy pops into view. It's a fighting game, reduced to kick and punch and dashes and jumps... no combos to learn, no depth to the gameplay. Online is just random matchmaking, and basically just a stage select screen, a character select screen, and the 'brawls'. While the core gameplay is sliiightly entertaining and pleasant, it's insulting that they tried to sell it as a valuable (60$?) experience. It should have been a weekend project with bad graphics, made available for free, with a richer online experience (for example statistics page, a yearly tournament with winner and in-game prize, the ability to team up with a friend, etc). Of course the premise is limiting. You have a mobile port with added trophies. HOWEVER Square Enix managed to present this game as an exquisite collection of 'puzzle boards'. Each level looks like a physical, tangible object with characters looking like real pieces. The graphics are perfect for what the game is. Even the time spent between levels can leave an impression of tangibility and class. You can actually look at the level selection screen and notice the 'storyline' of Agent 47 moving through a city or a place towards his target, across the many steps involved in the larger location. This is an ingenious way to present the puzzles. Everything in Hitman GO comes together for an elegant whole. Gameplay is top notch. There is a minimum of repetition, and thus mostly fresh-feeling challenges constantly every time a new board is loaded. New puzzle pieces are frequently introduced, and by the campaign's end, a map can look more or less like a chess board, with the many rules involved for each enemy type. It's been years since I enjoyed long puzzle game sessions this much. Each level has a few 'challenge conditions' for beating it, for example "No kills" or "Collect protected item". These provide enough replay value and challenge to really max out the game's potential value. I had some of my favorite moments of playing the game while I pondered and tested various strategies for completing under special conditions. I found that many of the puzzles gained extra puzzle depth from this. Basically, yes this is Hitman done right, and puzzles done right. Original concept means I feel generous and give a 9/10.

I had the opposite experience of HTgamer's. No issues with fast sections. Game-time pauses while you browse for colors in the color wheel, so you can easily take your time and adjust the stick with perfect precision, even in stressing sections. The game feels perfectly polished, with zero of the minor annoyances sometimes found in indie games. For example, if you get tired of the many ladders in the game, you might start to jump upwards or downwards on them and find it greatly speeds up the climbing. Another example, specific to PS4 is that Dualshock 4's blue light will change to any color chosen in the game. I thought that was telling of how much care seems to have gone into the game. The majority of games puzzles are slightly easy and casual, but late game got surprisingly clever and even had me stuck one time, and I had no idea what to expect of where the ideas would be taken. Turns out the ideas went in all sorts of cool directions. It was cool to pass by the Goethe statue at the university and be reminded of his big role in the study of color (you should google for that free old book which is in the public domain... I don't remember the title at all)... I'm sure the devs read that book, and Newton's work too, they definitely knew what they were doing and had a passion for the subject. Maybe this game is meant for teenagers, but despite the simple presentation, I appreciate the solid work and thought put into it nonetheless. It does not have much replay-value despite collectibles. But a single run through the campaign was easily an 8/10 for me. You know what? I'm giving a small 9/10 for the original concept.

Poor 3d modellers! They carefully built such a fantastic London setting is fantastic, and the mission designers didn't care to put even one inventive or exciting mission in the game. The campaign is made of generic missions, and side content feels like auto-generated filler content. For example, the 'fighting arenas' just push waves of generic enemies at you so you can go mash that square button and occasionally block. It feels insulting really, like they think our time on planet Earth was worthless. So..... Only recommended if you're super hyped about Victorian/steampunk London setting! The virtual rendition of London is marvelous and interesting. The game wastes both setting and characters on rompy entertainment-flick-clichés, and gameplay that too often collapses under annoying controls and weird, embarrassing bugs. Few, if any, missions add anything new to mission formulas that constantly copy games of the distant past. If you're super hyped about crossing the virtual Thames river, climbing various famous buildings, then maybe consider it? But don't expect a polished next-gen game. RDR's multiplayer is broken by hackers. The zombies in the online mode didn't even show up. Offline campaign gave enough missions to explore the map again with new slightly gimmicky tweaks. Fans of RDR will appreciate the changes, but those who never warmed up to the main game should be warned that this is more of the same, shooting gallery with zombies instead of bandits. Most of the changes are cosmetic, but both the new audio and the new graphical tweaks have enough impressive craftsmanship and talent to make the package shine. The online though . _ .

ZOE 1: Old school 3D action game with epic story but limited gameplay and map design. The concept (story, presentation and cutscenes) gives an impression of soaringly high ambitions. But if played solely for the action scenes, the game stands alongside its contemporaries from the PS2 era, and not the most impressive of them. The game has no "Wow this is soo awesome" moments in-game. But overall, when looked at as a package, it is quite awesome, and a real treat for mecha/anime fans. I'm saying, consider playing it? But don't rush in with high expectations. ZOE 2: The sequel feels super polished, like an MGS game in terms of quality control. But I actually thought the missions felt less satisfying. Like it was hard in the wrong way... I had to restart one sequence involving two generators of some sort, several times. With barely any improvement in each retry. ZOE 2 feels longer and has much more variation in mission structure and especially boss fights. But as with the first game, mecha/anime fans are the main audience while other gamers could consider putting it in their game queue (aka 'backlog'). Just let it go if you don't get to play it. It wont show you any new tricks whatsoever, apart from "you can go up and down in this action game, not just forward/back/right/left!". It's sort of an 8/10 for the production quality and game direction. But the average gamer should be more concerned with gameplay and having fun and learning something useful. In that respect, I don't think anyone "must play" this title. Especially on PS3 with such a strong competition.
