Amazing open world game, where the thing you are exploring is history and knowledge of you galaxy. (Haven't played the DLC yet) Pros:
-Player has complete freedom to explore the galaxy, thus everything you learn feels like you earned it yourself.
-Great story (both touching and from a hard sci-fi perspective)
-The game manages to elicit a real sense of danger and hostility of nature, without any fighting
-Great score
-Every bit of history and natural law you learn about is just so satisfying
-Very cool planets
-Really makes you feel like an archeologist/explorer Neutral:
-You will need to visit the same place several times, which requires travelling there for a couple of minutes. While this can be a bit frustrating, it also makes the whole adventure feel difficult and that adversity does add something positive. Cons:
- Since there is minimal/no hand holding, you can get stuck. This can throw off the pacing of the game.

Very nice game, close to a 9 for me. Pros
-very cozy atmosphere (characters, music, world design)
-I love exploration based 3D plattformers, and this one is just so much fun
-The challenge races are nice additions Cons
-Somewhat repetitive level design
-Plattforming part could be more pronounced

The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom8

Great 2D Zelda game. Liked this slightly more than the Links Awakening Rework. Pros:
-Great world and quirky characters
-Lots of cool things to explore, nice side-quests, and collectibles
-More platforming than in other 2D Zelda titles
-Fun puzzles Cons:
-While I do like the Echo system for puzzles, the traditional fighting system is more fun
-Dungeon's are on the easier side
-I'm not sure why, but while 2D Zelda titles I like a lot, I don't quite love them

Rating Scale:
10-9: Enjoyed (almost) all the time
8-7: Enjoyed most the time
5-6: Overall enjoyable, but some things I dislike
3-4: Mostly not enjoyable, with some pleasant moments
1-2: Not enjoyable (almost) all the time.
Prelimary thoughts after the first chapter: This game's movement is unparalleled. Just moving around the different worlds is so fun. However, other than the first world (Mafia Town), the level design does not always align with what I like. I prefer more open-world, exploratory worlds, but here many world are a bit too linear for my tastes. Still, just moving through the world is cool, maybe I will like this even more when I try out some mods. Some other minor things that bug me:
First, it would be great if one would not always have to exit the world for the next act of the chapter. Second, there is no real way to keep track of all collectibles one already has gotten. Third, the game may lack a minor collectible. I think making coins a minor collectible (similar to purple coins in Mario Odyssey) would make exploration even more fun and rewarding.

Havent finished yet, initial thoughts: Spyro 1: I had a very weird experience with this one. I absolutely loved the first few levels. Exploring the different levels and finding the different collectibles was great fun. However, after 2 hours or so of gameplay, I became super bored with the game. All the levels seem to be the same: All you do is run around, collect stuff, fight some monsters, jump and glide. It just felt like the same thing over and over. And the different worlds seemed to only differ in color scheme.
Need to play some more to see if things get better again.
Prospective rating: 5-6 Spyro 2: This seems like a significant upgrade from the first game. The different worlds have unique races with character. They feel more homey than the abstract levels in the first game. Also, some movement options have been added (jump during glide, moving underwater) which make the gameplay more varied.
Preliminary rating: 7-8/10 Spyro 3:

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom7
Dec 28, 2023
Decent open world game that gives the player basically total freedom.
Basically the player explores the view and explores/finds stuff that can be ordered into several categories. Some of these things are more fun, other less so. Pros
-Some really fun "activities" in the world, including
--Caves
--Sky Islands
--Some side quests
--Interesting locations and their associated mysteries
--Quirky characters
-World is beautiful
-Main quest is fun Cons
-Several aspects of the game feel like a chore
--Korok Seeds
--Helping the guy with the signs
--(Many) shrines
-Light on story
-Most of the things one does in the game feel meaningless. Yes, some activities are intrinsically fun, but they don't lead to some overall progression. Exceptions that feel meaningful are: New outfits, the few story/lore drops, and uncovering the map
-Recipe/cooking system adds an unnecessary (and unfun) level of complexity
-Ultrahand feels very fiddly and unfun to use

Pokemon Legends: Arceus3
Dec 26, 2023
I stopped playing after one hour.
I realized that catching Pokemon without using them to build a team and battle removed all the joy from the game for me. Also, the things the game makes you do seem to be very repetitive and boring (e.g. catch 10 Pokemon of the same type). I gave this game a 3 because running around in a world full of Pokemon is somewhat fun, but I feel like this may deserve a 2 instead.

The best game I've ever played. The only game that I could play for 8 hours a day for the rest of my life without feeling bored. In fact, I had to stop playing because this game is so fun that it overshadowed everything else in my life. If that is not a concern to you (or if your self-control is better than mine), this can be the last game you ever play.

I only played the first level, but my impression is that this is a high quality game that may not be for me. It just feels a bit to cold, dark, and sterile for my liking. For now, I feel like this would hower around a 7, but could definitely change once I play this longer at some point.

Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury6
Dec 26, 2023
While I like 2D mario games at times, I am not a huge fan. This game is mostly a 2D Mario game, disguised as a 3D game. However, the 3D game is minimal and the player mostly completes linear 2Dish levels. The levels themselves are pretty good and I enjoyed my playthrough. I suspect that I would enjoy this game (like Mario Wonder) more in Multiplayer than Singleplayer. For both these games I tend to feel like they are a 6, rather than a 7 for single-player, but the multiplayer raises them to a 7-8.

This game is stylish: It is witty, sexy, and violent. The feelings I get while playing are somewhat similar to a Tarantino movie.
My major gripe with the game is the combat. Basically, there are a ton of enemies, and it feels like all I do is spam dodge and then spam some random buttons. It is a bit boring and repetitive and since this is a large chunk of the game, I feel quite conflicted whether this should be a 5 rather than a 6.
I have to admit that I only played the game for 3 hours, but at that point some boredom with the core fighting gameplay set in. I probably need to play some more to form a more certain opinion.

Pokemon Scarlet7
Dec 26, 2023
Let's start with the obvious: This game is unpolished. Framerate issues, graphics problems, bugs, you name it. But the issues don't stop there: there is no level scaling and the game quickly becomes to easy.
However, if you ignore the technical issues, go through the different gyms and bosses in ascending order, and try to only use Pokemon of the same level as the respective gyms, this is the best Pokemon game of all time.
The open world is great. The feeling of exploring the world, discovering items, new Pokemon and NPCs is amazing. Annoying random encounters have been removed. And there have been a bunch of quality of life changes that make the game significantly less grindy. The new Terastalizing mechanic makes battles even more interesting.
All in all, the core gameplay loop of catching Pokemon and building teams has never been as fun as in this game, especially if the player takes some steps to ensure that things go in the right order and are not too easy. There is something in the classic linear top-down games that gives them life and coziness that are not present here. But still, this is a very good Pokemon game!

Persona 5 Royal7
Dec 26, 2023
There are many good things about this game, and some not so great ones.
In general, the voice acting, music and artstyle are great. I also like the whole city/school enviornment. Walking around and talking to people is great fun. In general, I think that the life/social sim part of the game is its biggest strength. While some of the conversations are bit rode and repetitive, most of them are very enjoyable. The story is also quite interesting and it is just a nice feeling to explore the game's world together as a group.
The biggest negative of the game are the dungeons/fights. Every dungeon feels like a grind. There are the same enemies many times until a dungeon is cleard. This would maybe not be too bad if fighting were fun. But it general, it is mostly trying out a bunch of different moves until you find a weakness and then you abuse that weakness. The only turn-based strategy game I've played besides Persona is Pokemon. And I like fights in Pokemon much, much more than in this game. It seems like there is less room for creativity, like there are fewer options for the player, etc. Maybe things will change once I play more, but for now I always dread/don't feel like playing when a dungeon has to be done. All in all, the repetitive dialog and boring/uninteresting battle system almost made me rate this a 6, but there is enough charm and pleasant vibes in here that it deserves a 7. It just feels good to be in the game's world, which is what I really look for in games.
Depending on how my feelings for this game evolve, this may even get raised to an 8 or 9, but could also go down to a 6.

Great artwork and music. But the gameplay consists of hard, relatively long levels without any checkpoints. In practice, this means that you repeat the same level dozen of times, usually needing a couple of minutes until you reach the point you previously reached, only to progress a little bit more. This type of gameplay is unfun and frustrating to me. I dislike it so much, that a rating of 3 may even be high. But the art and music does some work in me appreciating the game.

I know this game is supposed to be retro, but when playing, I can't feel but find it a bit ugly and outdated optically. I really enjoy the soundtrack though.
For its genre, this seems like a very good game. The levels are challenging (a bit too hard for my taste, but still fine) and the game play is pretty fun (although not quite as fun/fluid as games like cuphead). Also, there is some story, and a nice world with other characters.
I think it is a very good game for its genre, but unfortunately, I don't enjoy 2D plattformers/hard games too much. Still, I do like the game when I play it occasionally, although I don't feel too often like playing it.

BotW is an open world game with minimal structure. The player roams the wide, diverse and beautiful world, going on their own adventure. At times, you will meet npcs or even find a village. However the vast majority of the world is wilderness. There are three things to find: shrines, korok seeds, and treasure chests. Treasure chests often contain low value items and are often guarded by monsters. Since the monsters and treasures are very repetitive, these are usually not sought after actively. Korok seeds are also repetitive but at least have some practical value and give a sense of progress .Shrines are the main attraction. They symbolize you conquering the wilderness after all you can always travel to their, this part of the wild is now yours. Also, they are often quite fun.Personally, I like the side quests quite a bit. They make the player connect with other characters in a world that can feel very solitary. And some quests are pretty good! All in all, the game does what it does very well, with some flaws. I enjoyed the main quest quite a lot. But the main quest is only a small part of the game. I also like exploring the world and reveling in its beauty. However, the game does feel a bit to empty and lonely to me. When I play, I enjoy the meditative aspects of exploring a beautiful world of solitude. But the reward density is too low to keep my interest for longer than 30-60 minutes every couple of days. I miss the typical Zelda songs and the feeling of living in a world with other beings.
