The buildup of suspense and how the plot unfolds was perfected by Polanski in Rosemary's Baby. This was even made better by the spectacular cast led by Mia Farrow and John Cassavetes. Definitely a classic horror masterpiece which obviously inspired some of our modern horror filmmakers like Jordan Peele, Ari Aster, and Robert Eggers. It's just frustrating that one of the best horror films was made by Roman Polanski.

Its a simple film that is made to give its viewers a big warm hug. Crazy that Totoro and his catbus got creepy smiles but I still find them adorable. As I said, simply heartwarming.

One of the few movies who actually gives backstory to its side character with decent action sequences. But for real what's with the music choices?!?! A film which is bland in most of its scenes suddenly plays Silence by Khalid x Marshmello. It's just a bad film experience.

A great script and a phenomenal acting chemistry makes Palms Springs work in all levels. Siara’s script makes use of the concept of time loop to explore the banalities of life. Nyles lived his looped life by just passing time, indulging into pleasure just to do it again the next day. In spite of having a life with no responsibilities at all, he felt lonely and tired thinking of what to do on his life in the present loop. Then, Sarah, having a problematic life of her own, got into the looped life and used this as an escape from her complicated life. The adventures of Sarah and Nyles in the looped life is definitely a dream for everyone. We all wanted to live a life with zero responsibilities but our characters would realize this is actually not how they can live life (or how we can live life). Nyles needs an emotional companion while Sarah has an urge to correct her wrongs (as she is always reminded by this whenever she wakes up from the bed of her sister’s soon-to-be-husband). While all of these are happening, we are presented to the side character of Roy. I think Roy’s take on the looped life is an opportunity to appreciate the things he never did before. He went from saying marriage is a bottomless pit of sorrow into realizing his kid watering **** as beautiful. He took a step back from whatever he is going through and just accepted life as it was and started appreciating every single detail his wife and kids are doing. But when he was informed of the possibility of getting out of the loop, he was ecstatic about it and for sure he would love to get out of the looped life because he knows how to live his life. While for our main characters, they are unsure yet on how they will live once they get out of the loop but they have found each other in the loop and for them that is enough to live (which sounds really cheesy). The chemistry of Samberg and Millioti is phenomenal. I won’t get tired watching these two drinking booze, shooting guns, and dancing in the bar full of thugs. Of course, J.K. Simmons will always be brilliant in what he does (the getting high scene with Samberg is one of the memorable scenes in the film, that laugh in the tub is the best). This is definitely a great quarantine film. We are all like in a loop at this moment. We just have to spend it as fruitful as we can. Let this be a time where we appreciate our family and our blessings. Learn something new. Teach someone something they do not know. I think this is the meaning of life, being there for the people around us. It was never meant for isolation.

The opening credits rolled together with Morricone's score. Right there on I knew the film is going to be a classic. It has great character introductions: Tuco crashing on the glass window, Angel Eyes' standing on the door as if Death is waiting and there is no way out, and of course, Blondie's menacing "Yeah, but you don't look like the one who'll collect it." line. These stylistic introductions by Sergio Leone captures the audience on what is to come. Yup, what is to come is not as dull as the deserts of Spain. It has a very compelling plot which dwells on the morality of the characters in the backdrop of the Civil War. All three characters are crooked gunslingers, their eyes are all focused on the gold but the Civil War would spell their differences. The Bad really is bad, The Ugly do have a displeasing personality, but The Good... we don't even know why he was called one until he comments about how men are wasted in wars. He even offered alcohol and cigar to the dying men of war. The writers did not shy away on portraying the horrors of war because one will know a person's morality on how he views injustice. Does he take advantage of this for personal gain (The Bad), does he go against it (The Good), or just don't care at all (The Ugly). Lastly, the film won't be a cinematic classic without the cinematography and Morricone's score. The combination of these two elements was perfectly executed especially into its climactic ending of the three main character's stare downs and their hands slowly creeping on their guns while Morricone's The Trio is playing on the background. The establishment of eye lines together with camera angles were perfectly executed. Of course, i would not forget the classic intro. I mean that intro is a stable in those western-inspired films whenever there's a stare down happening in the middle of the town. I believe this is the epitome of Western movies. All the western-inspired films in the modern times definitely stole a lot from The Good, The Bad and The Ugly. Indeed, a masterpiece in all aspects.

One star for Jeff Goldblum. Another star for Jeff Goldblum's one-liners. Yup, I think that’s about it.

It didn’t have the jump scares that a general viewer might be looking for in a horror film but this is definitely a horror film at its core. Eggers captured a puritan family from 1630s New England with the use of natural lighting and candlelight coupled with archaic vocabulary. I’m really glad they opted for natural light and dull-colored clothing which added to the eeriness of the woods. The acting was also phenomenal (the scene of Anya Taylor-Joy and Ralph Ineson was just beautiful) and the score just leads you through the frightening shots. It just really felt authentic and I believe that is what Eggers was trying to achieve for this film, authenticity despite the folkloric idea of a witch. I loved how Eggers builds up the looming chaos that is about to happen within the family. When the chaos ensued, that is when the horror sets in. The isolation, together with the witch’s endeavor, drove the family to be rattled and deranged. Unfortunately, the very faith which they hold on for safety has blinded them and led them to act beyond reason, even beyond family. A great film that dissects the horrors of isolation and piousness.

1917 reminds us that film is and will always be an art form. A very simple yet compelling story told in a manner where audience were immersed in a wide open field yet a very claustrophobic feel. The pre-production prep should’ve been so grueling. The blocking was phenomenal. The timing of the shots to make sure the sun is covered by the clouds requires a lot of dedication. Personally, my favorite part of the film is the deserted city inhabited by the Germans. Deakins is really a master of light. The timing of the flares just to make sure they film the shadows waving through George Mackay is perfect. There is nothing like it. There is nothing like 1917 and we, as viewers, are blessed to have it.

Jonathan Groff’s comic prowess. Leslie Odom Jr.’s performance (The Room Where It Happens is indeed a pièce de résistance). Renee Elise Goldsberry and Daveed Diggs’ Busta-esque rapping. Lin Manuel Miranda’s wordplaaaaaayyyyy ( and alot of double entendre’s as well). The cast and crew’s brilliance! That’s a 5-star for you. Oh, and JGroff’s spit, make that 6-stars.

I am not an avid horror film viewer (I am really scared of jump scares lol) but I gave this a chance because my friends wanted to watch a horror film and they have watched Hereditary (which I haven’t yet hehe) so they wanted to watch the follow up of Ari Aster’s work. This film is a vibrant tapestry carefully woven with disturbing imageries. Plot is predictable, yes, but the film is made for us to experience the slow burn genre. It’s amazing how Aster weaved the beauty of the set designs with the costume colors and the horror of the cult’s traditional practices. As the film progresses, Harga slowly becomes a disturbing place which is contrary on how it was initially presented. As our feelings towards Harga changes, the characters ‘ relationships are faltering as well. I think this is where Aster’s brilliance in the script sets in. He puts us in a very disturbing but beautiful ride. Dani’s smile at the end shows how someone finally found a family even though how twisted it is.

A great way to end the Phase 2 of MCU. Ant-Man is a hilarious, kinda emotional (Father-Daughter issues), and jampacked action movie. Paul Rudd is a great choice of actor considering that the Ant-Man portrayal will be a little bit comedic. The script is great with the mix of cool fight scenes when Ant-Man is shrinking and enlarging. The fight scenes also has its own comedy which is effective. Overall, it is a fun movie to watch and Ant-Man will be a good addition to the Avengers for sure! P.S. What about the idea of Ant-Man Prequel? :O

Nerve-cracking film! A great performance for both J.K. Simmons and Miles Teller which added to the film's emotional mood. The editing is very great (all those sweat and blood in the drumset) and the sound editing is majestic. Of course, Damien Chazelle just nailed this movie despite the lack of experience in directing, he must've been nominated for the Oscar in directing. Indeed, a whiplash!

Not bad for a debut film, Tarantino exposed his unorthodox style of script-writing wherein he tackles the usual arguments that people have (like Mr. Pink not giving a tip argument). Although, I expected the film to have more thrill since it is a team-up movie with the goal of knowing who really is the "rat". Overall, the actors and script is great.

The most rapid 3-hour film I have watched and has a set of great talent who portrayed their roles with exaggeration but well-performed. The movie described the Jordan Belfort's high-life to its downfall in a very comprehensive manner. It also has good choice of soundtrack and a great script. As what I can see, the only downfall of the film is the exaggeration of the scenes (tons of swear words and orgies, not sure if that really happened).

Seeing the reviews before watching the movie gave me low expectations for the film but after watching I loved the movie especially how Jackman played the antagonist of the film (loved how he played Angier in The Prestige). There is a great script for a robot who had a human development, from knowing nothing to knowing tons of hardcore science and knowing how to feel, how to love. I hated the screen time of Sigourney Weaver and actually liked the screen time of Ninja and Yolandi.

The first one is better which had more emotion and flare to it but this second one has more punching and kicking. Age of Ultron is obviously a set-up to what will happen to the next Avengers film and Thor 3 so it is something that will not fulfill our yearning for a good story but for sure, MCU will give us our expectations in their upcoming films.

Although having an uninteresting plot, it is a hilarious film with the Minions doing what is expected of them: to entertain. (Had a lot of laughs in the run of the movie.)
